This is a very helpful video. I have a double sink with a garburator and no matter what I did, it stunk.
So I bought bag of ice and followed this video. Worked great! Chunks of black stuff came up the opposite sink drain, even though we don't use the garburator.
But after this the smell still remained, but I was on the right track. Here's what I did to eliminate it completely.
    1. Pour an entire box of baking soda down the garburator. Then hit it with just a splash of vinegar to get it fizzing. Not too much or you wash away the baking soda. Wait 24 hrs
    2. Put the plug in the sink and fill it with two jugs of vinegar. The more the better. Turn on the garburator, pull the plug and let it all go through. You need a lot of vinegar to hit all the inside of the garburator. Wait 24 hrs
    3. Plug the sink again and fill with hot water. Add two large full caps of Tide liquid laundry soap with Febreze. Turn on the garburator and let all the Tide go through.
It now has no smell at all, except for a bit of the nice Tide scent!

I also pack baking soda around the ice and down into the disposal and then pour vinegar and let it foam up really good before turning on the water and the disposal. Smells great!

Yes definitely proceed with caution. If your garbage disposal is older they metal may be weak and the ice can puncture it. That’s what happened to me and I flooded my kitchen floor and now I need a new disposal.

  • @f.demascio1857

I've been telling people to do this since the mid 90's.
    Very effective.
The caveat: if your disposal is very old and had micro fractures in the body, it may die permanently. Should have been replaced anyway.

It only trips it because they are thermally protected motors. They just have a special fuse that will reset when it is cooled back down enough but still you will also most likely need to press a red button. Some disposals have a shaft that can be turned with an Allen key when they are jammed. Just make sure that it is not plugged in.

.......or you can shell out a few extra more bucks and get the higher quality garbage disposal that come equipped with internal stainless steel components instead of the cheap easy to rust out galvanized internals that everyone seems to rather buy instead.

I thought I dropped a fork down there so i unplugged it and stuck a magnet and now I have 2 impellors (i think) and a cruddy screw. What will happen if I plugged it back in without those 3 pieces of metal and turn it on. I am going to replace it but it is super gross (it broke before I saw your video). The P-trap fittings are tight - and I don't think I need impellors to clean it out with ice - but should I bother since Im replacing it - I don't want to deal with anything gross under the sink from cleaning it or replacing it - trying to avoid vomiting. thanks for not ending the video early and including the satisfying 3rd and final drain clearing... ;)

Ok good hack but also my understanding is this is also good for the garbage disposal as it helps sharpens the blades. Also I don't like where your garbage disposal button is it just seems unsafe to me. Not sure where else ud put it. And maybe I'm wrong I dunno.

What about for ones when they aren't on permanently? Mine keeps building up mold even though we don't use it and don't dump stuff down that side of the sink.

I tell people at the complex where I work that don’t use their disposal to turn it on a couple of times a week for 30 sec or so and just run some ice through it if nothing else. This will help keep food particles coming from your dishwasher from “standing “ in the disposal and causing a smell. I also recommend people do once a month the same technique in this video, but I highly recommend they use a long wooden spoon or something like that to guide the ice into the disposal. Now, do 90% of the residents take my advice? Of course not, but with 235 units then 10% that do gives me 23 disposals less to worry about 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • @thelog86

Put your absolute trust in the LORD. He will never stir or lead you in the wrong direction. Understand and know that he knows what’s best for you so don’t do your own thing/way. He won’t fail you nor will he forsake you. So just trust and believe in him with all your heart, soul, and might and watch him transform your life.❤️Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
