    Just saw this video for the first time and noticed that I was the engineer on the show train. Been with the company for 33 years. The fireman, who retired in 2018, was our highest seniority engineer at the time with 37 years. Awesome video!

      I still cant get over how many views its had, and to be seen by yourself the engineer and the other engineer giving the talk was incredible. Was a great morning, and being someone who works on steam here in the uk as well as 1225 in michigan, i keep wanting to ride the disney one 😂

    This Cast member did an excellent job explaining the various details of thew WDW Locomotives! (I'm a train guy and I learned a lot!!) They were bought back in 1969-70 from a narrow gauge railroad in Yucatan, Mexico, and restored and painted to Disney specs.. Thanks for posting!!

      Paul M. Newitt I thought they were standard gauge but half the size (if you get what I mean), I'm surprised Walt settled for narrow he loved trains and for his parks I thought he would have when for the full size engines.
      Also do you why they don't do the tender seats on all of the parks part from California?

    • @paulm.newitt3246
      @paulm.newitt3246 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was Ward Kimball that I'm sure talked Walt into 3 foot Narrow Gauge. It fits perfectly with the scale and design of the park anyway. The WDW locos are taller and larger than at Disneyland, which might suggest standard gauge. Modelers mistakenly use std. gauge for their Disneyland/WDW trains, when they should use HOn3 or On3. I don't know about the tender ride seating. Probably not at Tokyo, and Paris.

      @KyleTheDalek 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Paul M. Newitt right, I just thought Walt wouldn't have settled for less, it would be awesome if they put in a standard gauge line and had some engines.
      That might explain there size then there all beautiful engines regardless.
      Yeah only California has it for some reason.

    Thanks for Sharing it! Now it makes me feel like to Build my own HO scale and find a nice Locomotive and a Duplicate Passengers cars for my own Ho scale. That was great story!
    I went to WDW back in 2011 and missed it so much how I remember back in 93 to 95 when I was young riding this train and I never stopped loving steams.

    I’ve been on a few “Behind The Magic” tours of the Parks but I didn’t even know this one was available. Next time I’m in the US I’ll look into this one.

      @@AndyG13GLA they havent been on for a while since the railroad was shut i think. From what i hear the railroad is going to shut again at some stage due to works going on at one end of the park for new attractions. Hopefully not the case though!

    Me and my brother visited the Disneyland outside of Paris France a lot when we was younger, we went on the steam trains there a lot because our Mum and Dad found riding on Disneyland railroad to be a very useful way to travel from one part of the park to the other especially when it was very busy and there was a long wait for other attractions. it was one of the rides that i liked because people did not scream their heads off like they do on Thunder moutain

    Thank you for sharing. The Disneyland Railroad is now closed for the next year but it will come back. It's making room for Star Wars Land so the track has to move. Not to worry the Train Cast Members are excited because they get to make a left turn then a right through the wilderness. it's going to be exciting.

      They are adding 1,000 feet of new track to make the S-Curve from the Hungry Bear Restaurant to Toontown. They are also including a new grade (slope) up as it goes by (hidden) SW Land, to cross over a pony trestle bridge, which below it, is one of the entrances to SW Land.

    Kinda funny to hear them talk (or not talk, rather) about the Lilly Belle being away. It's being rebuilt at Strasburg, but it's funny because you take the shop tour at Strasburg and they don't allow you to go into a particular bay of their backshop because of some "high profile" work they're doing. The door was open at one point so I was able to peer in and grab a couple shots of the LB.

      Right now I just say look up Rio Grande Southern Number #20, she was rebuilt in the same shop.
      And if you think Lilly Belle took a long time to get rebuilt, she was high speed fast compared to Rio Grande Southern Number #20, which took a WHOPPING 14 years to rebuild because that engine was VERY FAR GONE!!!! But she was BEAUTIFULLY rebuilt, and is a proud piece of equipment at The Colorado Railroad Museum, and Lilly Belle is now by far the most beautiful engine on the Walt Disney World Railroad.

    I took this tour on Apr 15, 2015. I highly recommend it. But there was a whistle code I never heard explained. The ride operator--what they call even the steam engineers--greets non-train crew along the way by blowing long-short-short, according to the tour guide. The reason, which the guide did not mention is that -.. is the Morse Code letter D, for Disney no doubt. Think of it as an auditory hidden Mickey. With the historic linkage between Morse code and railroading, I have heard that in the original Disney Land, the main station has a continuous Morse stream playing a portion of WD's grand opening day dedication speech.

    Pretty good that the ‘engineer’ can’t even explain how Injectors work. Both fireman and Drivers need to be able to explain how everything works on locos in Australia to actually be qualified. That surprised me anyhow

    • @peggbegg
      @peggbegg  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Darcy Petersen oh im sure they do. But one thing we found was the engineer tried makign what was a very hot morning easier by joking on abit especially when the topic of lilly bell came up. Most of our group knew nothing of trains so explaining the injectors properly would have been lost on them

      Elite Productions the one we are riding behind is the Roy.O.Disney. Earlier in the video we saw Walter.E.Disney depart and Roger.E.Broggie come out the roundhouse

    • @amazedatingnorance
      @amazedatingnorance 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that kind of bugged me too. A train is a locomotive on the rail line in the act of operation with operating orders giving it permission to be out on the line. Either with or without cars or wagons behind it. Every U.S. rail line trainman's operating manual I own states this quite clearly. All of mine date form the 1940's but most were originally written between 1900 to 1920. This coincides with the time frame that Walt first got his chances to operate a LOCOMOTIVE.

    Maria should be home making tortillas or chapattis for her 4 kids, and let a railfan do this job! You can't hear her, she blatantly admits she has no interest in trains, and starts out with an offensive generalization about the 3 types of guest!!! Outrageous!
