- In this video with Hampshire Rugby Football Union (HRFU), we take a look at using SAM Splints for stabilising limbs with an example of an ankle injury.
Demonstrated by Suzi Le Voi, Head Medic and Beth Huntington, Sports Therapist and Pitch Side Medic at the HRFU, the video goes through how to use the splint to immobilise an injured ankle.

What she did not do was to pad the ankle before applying the splint.😙🤔
Great point but don’t always need it. Depends on how long advanced help arrives, if victim needs to be mobile. Even then it’s more of an issue of comfort vs effectiveness. To that point, I’d say that more time spent confirming splint and extra tape, even in this limited configuration, is another detail neglected. But this is good enough, simple and perfect for first aid
