This is just a simple slight of hand trick. His other stuff is way more difficult to do. He has a card already marked with his signature in the deck and he knows where it's at. That's the one he puts in Ellen's mouth and he keeps her signature card the whole time and he puts it in his mouth. It's a simple but fun trick
It's called a double lift, he lifted two card; Ellen's signed 10 of Hearts on the bottom with a duplicate of a signed Queen of Spades on top of it, then placed on the top of the deck which he fold and gives it to Ellen. He signs the Queen of Spades that's on the bottom of the deck but he fold the top card of the deck and puts it in his mouth (Ellen's Card). If you look carefully at 2:24 as soon as he puts the card in his mouth you could see that he accidentally flashed Ellen's card.
In st Augustine theres a magic shop and they have free magic shows promoting things they sell. If the magician isnt an ace yet i see how they do it. Its all in the performance to trick people and you must be very confident in yourself

He didn't switch the cards, he had a pre-signed Queen of Spades at the bottom of the deck, so he used some double lift to give her his pre-signed card, and another double lift to move her signed card to his mouth.
He did have a story tho, the producers ask for stories of all top 40 participants. Of course the majority has sad stories from their life because they're imperfect human beings just like everyone else what do you expect. And just because singers are common that is no reason at all to disrespect, dislike them, or not give them a chance. I do agree that Shin Lim deserved to win, he's a real life wizard.
Funny part is these tricks are actually really easy if you know the basics of card magic (especially the last one with the mouth thing) It’s just the way he presents the tricks that make them so great, what an entertainer
What's more amazing is how he can pop the card out and hold it in his teeth so well. When i do it, a huge bucket of saliva pours forth along with the card which I've now dropped and ruined my pants and now i have to mop and do the laundry and buy a new deck of cards and reflect on my life.

catching a magician's trick the first time is great and all, but when you keep analyzing a video and rewinding it then tell the world how it's done; that's just cheap. If you didn't get it the first time, YOU GOT FOOLED.
We know how it is exactly done, what makes Shin Lim makes it into a million dollar act was all about presentation. All that we do are just TRICKS, and technically lying... but Shin Lim was not just all about the tricks, he's very good at PRESENTATION, that what makes the moment so magical.
I mean... The card tricks weren't complex at all in this video, so anyone with experience of doing card tricks will know how it's done the first time. Not taking away from what he's done though.. he obviously wasn't trying to pull off complex tricks here and his agt performances were insane.

You would be shocked to see how simple some of it is. Magicians stay one to two steps ahead of what your brain thinks is really happening (it fills in the blanks). But, he is one smoooooth operator for sure!
Paul H look again. This is just another variation of The 2 card Monte. When he is explaining “the reason why” at 1:53, he’s performed a double lift. So he is holding 2 cards in his right hand.. Ellen’s 10 and the pre marked queen. He then flips it over and now the back of the pre marked queen is what’s on top. He then takes the top card (the queen, but we think it’s the 10) and folds it up and gives it to her. The reason you missed it is bc you were focusing on the fold.. not what happened before the fold :)
ofc not. That's one of the reasons why the magicians themselves don't have any issue with people explaining how the illusions work, because it doesn't detract from the actual skill required to pull it off this consistently and flawlessly.

What's more amazing is how he can pop the card out and hold it in his teeth so well. When i do it, a huge bucket of saliva pours forth along with the card which I've now dropped and ruined my pants and now i have to mop and do the laundry and buy a new deck of cards and reflect on my life.

catching a magician's trick the first time is great and all, but when you keep analyzing a video and rewinding it then tell the world how it's done; that's just cheap. If you didn't get it the first time, YOU GOT FOOLED.
Right? I miss when magicians could just do their thing without people overanalyzing their tricks.
We know how it is exactly done, what makes Shin Lim makes it into a million dollar act was all about presentation. All that we do are just TRICKS, and technically lying... but Shin Lim was not just all about the tricks, he's very good at PRESENTATION, that what makes the moment so magical.
I mean... The card tricks weren't complex at all in this video, so anyone with experience of doing card tricks will know how it's done the first time. Not taking away from what he's done though.. he obviously wasn't trying to pull off complex tricks here and his agt performances were insane.

You would be shocked to see how simple some of it is. Magicians stay one to two steps ahead of what your brain thinks is really happening (it fills in the blanks). But, he is one smoooooth operator for sure!

Paul H look again. This is just another variation of The 2 card Monte. When he is explaining “the reason why” at 1:53, he’s performed a double lift. So he is holding 2 cards in his right hand.. Ellen’s 10 and the pre marked queen. He then flips it over and now the back of the pre marked queen is what’s on top. He then takes the top card (the queen, but we think it’s the 10) and folds it up and gives it to her.
The reason you missed it is bc you were focusing on the fold.. not what happened before the fold :)
