I love his card tricks, his mellow approach and I hope he succeeds in booking Vegas. Personally, I like his look, but as with anyone who is talented and ambitious, people are going to line up just to take a shots at you. He does card tricks and has never professed to being a model. Some comments reflect the poster's real issue, but I think Shin will be able to deal with any haters quite efficiently. He turned around his life when he lost his chance to be a great pianist. He will go far.
Shin Lim's conduct during AGT and post AGT has been totally exemplary. Humble, grateful for the win, devoid of scandals and most importantly Shin didn't not rest upon his laurels. He is constantly upping his game and refining and polishing his bag of tricks (and not doing the same EXACT old routine). A perfect "show business" role model.

I've seen a number of Shin Lim's videos, and he's legitimately the only card magician who continues to make me believe that he's ACTUALLY a wizard. Everyone else is a pro at card magic and slight of hand. Lim, on the other hand, practices the dark arts.
If you watch his commentary on penn and teller fool me he actually severed tendons in his thumb doing these tricks, he uses extremely thin and fast slide strings that have no reflection from light. He had to undergo extensive surgery, thankfully he had won that $1M from AGT

I 100% expect him to have a show in Vegas. Criss Angel is overplayed IMO. He just got a new deal a couple years ago but this kid has flair and a signature move breathing smoke. Not super impressive but it is a signature move that comes off cool.
There were videos that people posted of how he did the trick to get your card on the top of the deck but Shim must have seen those to prove a point cause he did not due it like in those videos. He is basically saying lol nope try again people.

Every magic have trick behind it; but for doing it so smooth and visuals. He put alot of practice there. Magic might be about 90% presentation and 10% tricks; but the number of effort to perfected those trick is people rarely know. Congrats Shin! You deserve it~♡
Watched parts of the video in 0:25 speed (guess I’ve a lot of free time lol) and noticed a few things. 1:03 - Jimmy is not allowed to pick the card. He picks the 2 of spades. 1:07 - he flicks the 2 of spades and takes the card. 1:54 - places it back on top of deck. 3:51 - clue that Jimmy already knows the card is in his right pocket. 4:48 - replaces 2 of spades with blank card. 4:57 - deck of cards not in both hands. Must be in mouth. Probably when he puts 2 of spades and smoke capsule in mouth. Still amazing how smoothly he does all this. Great magician indeed!! 👌😊
1:07 when he says "if you forget it then the whole trick is over", he flicks the chosen card into his left sleeve with his right thumb, then camera angle changes on 1:55 . Again changes the card on 4:48 , camera angle changes too. with camera angles changing it is hard to decode completely

between 4:48 and 4:49 he changed the card from 2 of Space to blank one. Observe the movement of his left-hand little finger. If you reduce speed to 0.25 you can notice easily. Also, see the tactic he uses for few seconds before that. He purposely keeps flashing 2 of spade face side to the audience so that you keep believing that everything is fine with that card.
Magic tricks should not be analysed but enjoyed. Shin is one of the best in the world and even if some of us know how he's doing it - it does not mean we can do it as good as he. He is super fast and that's not something even practice can gurantee. I know he practices a lot but the guy wasn't in magic a long time like other magicians I know - yet , he performs much better. A true talent. His fingers are so fast and controllable - he should have been a pianist... Super great magician. Nothing new was invented here - none of the tricks was actually his - but he performs some of them better than the magician who invented it. He's incredible and a great entertainer.

And in Shin's case - I've known those tricks long ago and practiced them quite a lot... but I am not near his level when it comes to perform them as smoothly. I can appreciate the beauty of those magic tricks even though I know how it's done. It's still amazing to see when it's done so right. And by the way, he did over 10 tricks there... he is very fast and combines a few things. He has two decks. One was all two of spades, you can see this in one of the angles. He had the card already in Jimmie’s jacket and his mouth. Obviously it was already on his chest too. But having the deck full of the same card guarantees the trick works. The beginning where he spreads the cards out face up was the setup. There wasn’t a two of spades in that deck either. Then it is swapped when he turns them over. And the “trick” begins.
He's done the same tricks with cards that were signed by Tyra Banks and other celebrities, so there was definitely no duplication of those cards. I have no clue how he gets them in his mouth or other places without being seen, but he does.

Those aren't tricks. It's real magic. Tell me how he got the card into Jimmy's jacket pocket or how he pulls the card out of his mouth. NO PHYSICAL POSSIBLE WAY
A great performance. The trick revolves mostly around the fact that each card has a 2 of spades card glued to its back. Notice how it's never Jimmy that picks up the card but it's Shin, who pinches it to disattach the 2 of spades. You can best see it at 3:34, when Shin picks up a card, pinches it, and the bottom one falls onto the deck but is slightly moved. That's why Shin asks Jimmy to *point* to a card, not touch it or move it. It's because if it's moved out of the deck, then it will be very hard to separate the 2 without anyone noticing. That's also why you don't see a 2 of spades in the face up deck, yet Jimmy can name any number and the card is right there.
That is genius! I have to go back and watch it more slowly but I hadn't even thought about the fact that the cards are slightly glued together. What an inventive way to force a card. The rest is almost point and click after that.
Shin's sleight of hand is extremely impressive! At 4:48 you'll notice that he glances at the camera and angles his hands PERFECTLY to swap out the 2 of spades for a blank card without the viewer being able to see. :)
That's funny you mention this, because before he went on AGT he was very emotionless while performing. He learned quickly to smile more and to pander to a larger crowd by talking more. His acts was all seriousness and no talking.

Magic tricks should not be analysed but enjoyed. Shin is one of the best in the world and even if some of us know how he's doing it - it does not mean we can do it as good as he.
He is super fast and that's not something even practice can gurantee. I know he practices a lot but the guy wasn't in magic a long time like other magicians I know - yet , he performs much better. A true talent. His fingers are so fast and controllable - he should have been a pianist... Super great magician.
Nothing new was invented here - none of the tricks was actually his - but he performs some of them better than the magician who invented it. He's incredible and a great entertainer.

And in Shin's case - I've known those tricks long ago and practiced them quite a lot... but I am not near his level when it comes to perform them as smoothly. I can appreciate the beauty of those magic tricks even though I know how it's done. It's still amazing to see when it's done so right.
And by the way, he did over 10 tricks there... he is very fast and combines a few things. Watching a magician is no different than watching a Singer perform - you just need to enjoy it...not understand how he wrote it and why...

The music analogy proves my point too because more and more artist are posting videos of them in the studio and behind the scenes documentaries to show how much work they put into creating a song that will only be a few mins long. All of that is happening because people are impressed by that. He has two decks. One was all two of spades, you can see this in one of the angles. He had the card already in Jimmie’s jacket and his mouth. Obviously it was already on his chest too. But having the deck full of the same card guarantees the trick works. The beginning where he spreads the cards out face up was the setup. There wasn’t a two of spades in that deck either. Then it is swapped when he turns them over. And the “trick” begins.

The trick revolves mostly around the fact that each card has a 2 of spades card glued to its back. Notice how it's never Jimmy that picks up the card but it's Shin, who pinches it to disattach the 2 of spades. You can best see it at 3:34, when Shin picks up a card, pinches it, and the bottom one falls onto the deck but is slightly moved.
That's why Shin asks Jimmy to *point* to a card, not touch it or move it. It's because if it's moved out of the deck, then it will be very hard to separate the 2 without anyone noticing. That's also why you don't see a 2 of spades in the face up deck, yet Jimmy can name any number and the card is right there.
That is genius! I have to go back and watch it more slowly but I hadn't even thought about the fact that the cards are slightly glued together. What an inventive way to force a card. The rest is almost point and click after that.
Shin's sleight of hand is extremely impressive! At 4:48 you'll notice that he glances at the camera and angles his hands PERFECTLY to swap out the 2 of spades for a blank card without the viewer being able to see. :)
