Wonderfully different! I take exception to the comments made by "Plants Over Pain - JerseyShoreGirl1" that include “This is a battle cry, not a jazz standard, wrong approach and wrong soloist. All I am saying is that I adore you guys, but Dr. Carter’s rendition with Cheri of Morgan State, remains the gold standard here.” In terms of this being a “battle cry,” a song is what the arranger and singers make it. Dr. Carter’s rendition, featuring Ms. Sherry Hunt, made the “battle cry” a “black gospel anthem,” and was beautiful and appropriate. This rendition is, as you wrote, is a “jazz standard” b/c that’s what the arranger & soloist envisioned. How the “gospel” version can be considered “the gold standard,” and the “jazz standard” perceived as “wrong approach, wrong soloist” is difficult to understand; neither version takes the traditional approach to the song (nor are they required to). Both arrangers and soloists did a great job!
I adore this young man’s voice but NO!! (1) HBCU’s are not in competition, we compliment one another. (2) This is a battle cry, not a jazz standard, wrong approach and wrong soloist. All I am saying is that I adore you guys, but Dr. Carter’s rendition with Cheri of Morgan State, remains the gold standard here. God Bless. This is not a negative comment or meant to be offensive. But, I will say, that while each conductor often interprets a score differently, and can breathe new life into it - this rendition misses the mark for me as it does not augment the unique artistic contributions of the choir, conductor, soloist or even orchestra.

Pure idiocy
Beautifully done. Morgan's rendition was awesome also. Both renditions rock my soul
Lol yep && both renditions are performed by Morgan just in different years 😊
