...I'm glad to hear that You also have the Problem on the Fx1 with the dipping of the nose at the speed of 17+ kn. ...but in the decent wind it's a great and fun boat to go out solo practicing Helm trapezing...
Hi Joe, Greetings from Aus ! Absolutely love your videos mate. Previously owned a 16 after quite a few years of Moth sailing and sold it for a stint on the Mountain Bike. Looking at buying another boat currently. The FX1 looks like such a fun boat to sail as most of the time I’m sailing single handed. Unfortunately, can’t find any FX1’s here in Australia, such a shame. May be another 16 but with the spinnaker upgrade. Love your location Bro 👌 how blue is that water.
In terms of mast rake I think the tuning guide says for the top of the mast to be in alignment with the daggerboard casing. What was your setup here Joe? What effect if any would increased mast rake have with the kite up? and what effect would it have had on the other points of sail?
The mast rake here - measuring with the trapeze line is to the corner of the transom. I'm going to try putting it as far back as possible to see if that gives her some more speed.
One of the biggest mistakes that sailors on multi-hulls with spinnakers make is to dump the mail out like an open barn door. Doing so creates drag that the spinnaker then has to overcome. Always sheet that main in tight, get the spinnaker out and come up on the wind to get your maximum speed. If you start to get overpowered, sheet in and head down. Otherwise, keep testing how far up on the wind you can get for the best speed. Spinnakers are all about steering, not so much sheeting. Once you get it out and shaped properly, just steer to your best speed/power.
What type of gps watch is? Have you ever use a garmin? If yes, you think its better than the locosys? Anyway, i'm waiting a wild tiger video with headcam, to see clearly how you manage heavy wind with the bows under water. Keep going!
Tiger video coming soon. I use the Locosys as it was the official speed watch from the Windsurf speed sailing association. I would use the garmin but they're too expensive for me.
Why would you expect a h16 to be quicker than an FX1? is it because you had no Jib or is the 16 normally faster?
The 16 on a reaching course is the fastest - the low aspect rig and the shape of the hulls - and from years of testing!
16s and 18s dominate on reaches, “higher performance” cats like fx/f18 take the edge on ww/lw racing with better angles and vmg

Great fun. Having now tested further, some rig changes coming.
I love your FX, it's ma da for wheeling the hull!!! Great!!
Indeed it is!

I'm pretty sure that all of the FX1s were made in Europe so the likelyhood of finding one outside is slim.
The 16 is always a winner!!
What about a class foiling catamaran?
Thanks from Sevilla Spain
I'd love to - I just have to get on one first - I don't have access to one.
Great video! how would you characterize that he’ll be FX one?
Spinnaker but no jib huh?
USA
Exactly. A great format for a singyhander

Thanks for the tips, it seems that I've been doing it wrong for the last 25 years!!

No down-haul release on the downwind without the kite?
The sails are very old !!! Very small kite.
yes, should have eased it off to get more power.
Would adding wings to it increase or decrease the top speed?
If they were light weight that would increase the speed potential,
it's not as fast as the h16 speed video, but on the other hand you didn't capsize or even get the bows too close
For sure!
Hii!! What was the wind speed??
Around 16 to 18 knots.
What was the wind speed this day?
16 to 18 knots increasing to around 20
Amazingly helpful and great content as always Joe!
Great boat for me to single hand at 130 kgs
She's a beauty!
Nice!
Thanks!
No jib 😳😥😢😭
standard for solo sailing with this boat.
@@JoyriderTV can you sail it solo with a jib like you would on the 16?
