I'm so glad I found this, It's been almost 20 years since I watched it and the memory of that psychopathic smile stayed with me for all this time. I remember being extra careful of not stepping on a living creature because I didn't want to be as self-involved as that human. So you know, important lessons can be drawn from cartoons from back then when they didn't underestimate kids intelligence.
@@watercements9789 It was written and driected by Ren and Stimpy artist while animation was done by those who did the most expesnive scenes in its first 2 seasons.
That stepping scene cracks me up every time. He puts on his golf shoes on and steps on him sixteen times, jumps on him ten times, rubs the heel of his shoe on him twice and runs him over. That combined with the fart noises it makes. Plus I love how they gave the girlfriend lots of armpit hair when she had her hand on the back of her head.
WOW, this brings me back. at the time i didnt appreciate how great the animation was. i LOVE how much emotion is expressed through the colours and facial expressions. i wish i had this on DVD so i can freeze frame it. you can easily see that eddie fitzgerald is a huge bob clampett and rod scribner fan. LOVE IT!!!!!
What a cartoon was probably one of the most interesting things cartoon network was doing during the 90s. giving a animator sutch freedom was very innovating. I love this stuff, because it's so odd ball and strange at times. But remember that this spawned some of the classics like dexter's laboratory and the powerpuff girls.
I love the dialogue so much. "You....FILTHY....CHILDREN!!!!" "I know that humanity is FOUL and EEEVIL!!!" "CANT YOU SEE MY SOUL IS ON FIRE!!!!!" "LOWLANDS!" "LOWLANDS!"
I never saw this one when i was younger...but this is the funniest short cartoon ever. My friends and I have been laughing non stop at the"peace man" and "gotta get that exercise."
Love this cartoon that Eddie Fitzgerald created, wrote, and directed. I wish Bob Jaques and Kelly Armstrong, and Glenn Kennedy would do an animator’s video commentary on this one!
I was watching this as a kid actually on CN. It was quite normal in the 90s, I don't think everyone in my school is traumatized. Where has that time gone
These guys DEFINITELY watched a lot of Ren & Stimpy before making this cartoon. I can see the twisted insanity infused into each frame. Heck, the guy worm acts just like Ren.
I used to love this as a kid, but rediscovering it now, in my 20s, I can appreciate it far more. This kind of creative freedom and bravery is all too lacking these days, regardless of whether you enjoyed this or not.
Wow just ... I don't know what to say, it's graphic and emotional, I remember my first reaction watching this cartoon as a kid was that it was too intense. It's beautiful and weird!
I first saw this when I was 9 years old, and to this day, it is still my favourite cartoon short. Every second of it is just genius. I just wish we could have seen more of the worm and his mental breakdowns.
Now that I look back at this cartoon... It was actually quite disturbing to watch this as a kid... Though the "gotta go to work" part always makes me laugh xD
I'm in my early 20 and like a year ago I found myself watching what a cartoon, and I really started thinking "god, now i know..." Now I tend to ask my friends if they saw these and if the answer is yes, i tend ALSO to say "geez, bro, i'm sure you are twisted as hell"
Eddie Fitzgerald was a layout artist on R&S and one of John K's oldest friends. He was as much a part of the look and style of that show as anyone else who worked on it.
And the lowlands... looooowlaaaands. :D I was little when I watched this really funny cartoon with my brother, but we loved almost every part of it. This little movie is brilliant.
i don t care what anybody thinks. this video was awesome because it gave you a messed up standpoint. a different perspective, an interesting interaction within lifeforms, a good moral ( if you were to catch it ) and a positive message throughout - BUT WITH A GRASP ON REALITY, be what you want to be, you shall not be rewarded, might as well enjoy the splendors of the universe on your own. all that with a sick perspective... ahh... the good ole days. everything's been sanitized now.
Bob vs Bob: I like it too. It’s hilariously deranged. Not expecting to be rewarded for kind (what the worm wanted) is a good moral. The danger in this moral however is that people may abuse it as a justification for never being kind. Even if good isn’t always rewarded and evil not always punished I think one should generally strive to do what is right even if you get no reward and possibly shit in return. Nor should you do something evil for a quick reward and no punishment. Does this make any sense? Okay that’s enough preaching for now. 😄
I want to be very honest... I am still too scared of watching this cartoon all the way through... ever since it traumatized me at age 7 :\ But I still consider this and all other 90s cartoons very nostalgic.
I've been rewatching these for the nostalgia. And I can actually tell why most didn't become full shows. This one for example had great animation (if creepy/gross like Ren&Stimpy), but honestly the actual "plot" was thin as hell, and so was the action in the episode. It was mostly a bunch of talking that made the pace a slog.
I haven't seen this in over 10 years... But I have always remembered it and it was my favorite cartoon for at least 4 of those 10... maybe 6? Either way, I remembered it being insanely funny even after I had long forgotten how it was funny. Now after seeing this, I commend my child self for having such good taste.
J.K. gets a lot of his acting props from Bob Clampett, specifically that daffy duck cartoon "The Great Piggy Bank Robbery". This toon's by Eddie Fitzgerald, and you can REALLY see that wacked out Clampett acting here.
I remember this one... I was never the same after watching it. The worm was so.. you know... so real and human. And Sally was an angel. Why aren't they making any more good stuff?
Idk...I remember watching this, when I was around 4-7 years old, or so. Didn't traumatize me. Definitely found some aspects weird, but what traumatizes kids are the reactions by the people around them, to them being exposed to such things, more than the things themselves.
I'm rewatching all What a Cartoon stuff and everything is coming back to me. Finally, I'm reliving my childhood! Also, 2:31, Alfred Hitchcook's Funeral March for a Marionette. Epic win.
This cartoon was probably most creapiest on CN back then. I was scared of this, but it is now very interesting to see this and remember my childhood. :)
Man... This was possibly my favourite of all the "What a Cartoon" cartoons. Psychotic, ultra silly and genuinely funny... despite its rather twisted way of showing it.

the animation and sound effects is amazing for late 90's standards and this shit is actually funny.
look at ren & stimpy! that came out in 1991 and it had animation like this!

The sound effects during the stamp scene just did me in man. XD

I thought they were trying to entertain kids, not give them nightmares.
Toonsdale Eh, they are bot similar if you think about it.
You're going to say that about a cartoon made by one of John Kricfalusi's lackeys?
I mean, it worked for Billy and Mandy.
I was watching this as a kid actually on CN. It was quite normal in the 90s, I don't think everyone in my school is traumatized. Where has that time gone
Well they did both. This did certainly stick well and truly long in my memory. 😌

this would be right at home on adult swim
No. It would turn out like the Ren and stimpy adult party cartoon. It would be better if it was aired on Cartoon Network instead of adult swim.

ren and stimpy animaton
Definitely.
I think the director was a storyboard artist on Ren and Stimpy.
I think it's supposed to have the same aesthetic as ren and stimpy, but I think this was after it
The inspiration was bob clampette actually, who was also the inspiration for John K
i mean not really. but some of the crew that worked on ren and stimpy were helping in the animation.
