I don't think I've ever seen a game where it's spawned so many sacrifice tables. It's like watching a striving child turn down food time and time again; it's heartbreaking! lol
One thing I recommend Northernlion does is get the crystal blade from the worm level. Either on the jungle or the ice caves is fine, and essentially, you get an extra health just for entering, since you have to carry Monty into the "sweaty orange ball."
The ghost will stop and pose for the photo, but it doesn't kill it. There's no way to kill it. In the PC version of the game the Hedjet prevents the ghost from appearing at all, but that was changed in the 360 version
i think you all are forgeting that there's a HUGE time gap between from when these are recorded and when they're uploaded. please know that hes not ignoring your comments. thank you.
I wonder how long it's going to take people to realize NL plays many episodes in a row.. renders them and posts them in order. He reads the comments but you won't hear about it for 3 - 4 episodes when he has the next batch done.. plz Thumbs up this so the people crying about not listening can see this.
Have you also noticed that that first one was fired before Anubis was not close to the wall while the others were. It would of made, and if not very close.
Northernlion, if you sacrifice 2 or 3 monty's on the altar, you get the kapala, which is easily going to give you 5 health or more, so you should pretty much always prioritize that
Sacrifiicing two dogs gives you the kappala which gives you more health as you collect more blood throughout the rest of the playthrough, Ryan. When you see the opportunity, even if you only have 3 health--take it.
NL's beginning commentary about exponential and linear made me think "Yeah, your progress was more linear with an upwards slope, but now it's kind of a random polynomial that varies between up and donwards arcs, with the greatest maximum being when he got Olmec to be next to the Hell entrance (but not directly at it) then dying to a frog from the Heavens." Math nerd will get this. Also, "Trading one health for an item is a pretty good deal" *Never tries the self-sacrifice/spike rooms in Isaac.*
You need to sacrifice the dead enemies on the floor to kali. Disturbing how many opportunities you are missing because you are not sacrificing enemies.
You saw it because you weren't playing, just watching. NL was playing, and had his eyes directed towards the death god with the scary, glowy scepter. It could've happened to anyone.
Geez NL, after watching michaelalfox's episode, I saw that he made it through but with 10 HP, over 30 bombs, jetpack, climbing gloves and a shotgun at the start. Sooo, I think it is still long way ahead of you, but we will be here!
i dont think he has had it often enough yet to realize just how INCREDIBLY overpowered and usefull it can be, especially after having used the ankh. Ryan, you and michael should do more playthroughs together. He will slow you down towards more efficiency and you can show him more effective combat, you will both profit. And i hope you get shown to use the bloody kapala :D
Michaelalfox kills shopkeepers for items. Northernlion avoids killing shopkeepers like the plague. Michaelalfox just beat hell. Northernlion has even gotten there. What can we deduce from these facts, children?
No you can't. This is one of the things that changed from the PC version to the 360 version. Spike shoes do nothing again the plant other than give him some indigestion when he swallows you.
I can't believe he didn't sacrifice the damsel for that second time. Jesus Ryan, the game is practically screaming at you to get the Kapala at this point.
You have to understand, Northernlion used to kill shopkeepers all the time. But, because of that, he always died on the next floor... to an angry shopkeeper. He made zero progress when he was killing shopkeepers.
I have to say, it's rather ironic that Shopkeepers drop money when they die, considering you won't need money for the rest of the run you're on. I guess it's so you can go high risk, high reward by killing all shopkeepers to increase your final score.
Indeed. I won't argue and say that Northernlion should not be paying more attention to advice from comments, but people should not be so emotionally invested in his playthroughs either. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of his 65 episodes through better or worse. If people seriously find it painful to watch this, they need to common sense to post criticism a couple times and then stop posting and stop watching his Spelunky videos indefinitely.
He does sacrifice the dogs occasionally, just not if he's not comfortable with his amount of health. Can't blame someone for wanting health over an item they he may already have or that might be useless to them..
lol "you know what item we haven't gotten in a long time.... the Kapala" 5 consecutive altars later :P. NL if you sacrifice two damsels (alive) you will always get the kapala. which would have helped you immensely during this run
"if you have 1 health and you trade 1 health for an item, this halves your chance of survival" - yeah, I do believe there's something mathematically wrong with this statement O.o
Thank you for taking your time to post consistently enjoyable videos. Keep doing your thing and don't let the negativity of some of the comments bring you down. Just look at the ratio of likes to dislikes. Trolls are just louder. Thumbs down if you're a troll who hates the fact people like his content.
First of all, it's easy to for us, the viewers to see the thwomp, but a player might not because he's going to be misdirected by Anubis. I mean, just look at him! He's flying around and flashing with deadly pink lights! You're right about the not sprinting thing. Still distracted by Anubis, however, and being pressed for time and Anubis' tracking skills, it's reasonable that anyone would feel the pressure. Is that second paragraph making excuses? Well, sometimes you live, but sometimes you die.
seriously NL ;D you get the kapalla by sacrificing monty twice! you had the altars in a row AFTER sacrificing him one,you could have giotten the kapalla easily, in fact you should try to do so all the time....... have you ever seen michaelaslfox play ? he gets the kapalla all the time and he has been to hell like 6 times now :D
That's a common problem, not just with NL but with any popular youtuber - and for anybody who exceeds some threhold of popularity anywhere in the internet, actually. At some point they get so much comments the puny human mind is just unable to parse this amount of traffic. So if you comment in any channel that has more than, like, 10k subscribers, it's unreasonable to expect that the owner will actually read it. Still might happen, but very unlikely.
I don't think I've ever seen a game where it's spawned so many sacrifice tables. It's like watching a striving child turn down food time and time again; it's heartbreaking! lol
This video reminded me why you are my favorite LPer.
Thank you NL.
It hurts seeing so many wasted alters.... Oh well, we all love you Ryan.
i love to see NL diying it makes my day a better day

Spelunky is the best of your series IMO
i think you all are forgeting that there's a HUGE time gap between from when these are recorded and when they're uploaded. please know that hes not ignoring your comments.
thank you.
You didn't even have to sacrafice monty, you were handed opportunities to sacrafice knocked out enemies right by the shrine.
i couldn't possibly imagine how you could fuck this up, yet, you did it again.
Were you watching the video? He was getting away from Anubis's instakill shots.
I wonder how long it's going to take people to realize NL plays many episodes in a row.. renders them and posts them in order. Oh wow. Cheers! Thanks Michael.
Northernlion, if you sacrifice 2 or 3 monty's on the altar, you get the kapala, which is easily going to give you 5 health or more, so you should pretty much always prioritize that
Sacrificing Monty for the Kapala at 3 health is an EASY trade.
Ryan, the kapala isnt rare, its actually quite common because you get it everytime you sacrifice your 2nd Monty on the altar.
"You can please some of the people some of the time." The Northernlion story.
Sacrifiicing two dogs gives you the kappala which gives you more health as you collect more blood throughout the rest of the playthrough, Ryan. When you see the opportunity, even if you only have 3 health--take it.
"30 Seconds ago a Happy Camper, and now..." - The Northernryan Story
NL's beginning commentary about exponential and linear made me think "Yeah, your progress was more linear with an upwards slope, but now it's kind of a random polynomial that varies between up and donwards arcs, with the greatest maximum being when he got Olmec to be next to the Hell entrance (but not directly at it) then dying to a frog from the Heavens." Remember you're talking to Ryan...and we all know how the roots of Ryan's ideas grow deeply into his brain.... :D
Ryan.. you do realize that sacrificing the dog twice will get you the blood cup right? Its very smart to get it as soon as possible
"I shouldn't have gone so fast!" - The Northernlion Story
The shopkeeper's name was Error :P
"we're gonna do better this time!"
The Northernlion story.
Has 3 health, decides to get monty to the exit instead of getting the kapala.
Northernlion logic
Geez NL, after watching michaelalfox's episode, I saw that he made it through but with 10 HP, over 30 bombs, jetpack, climbing gloves and a shotgun at the start. Sooo, I think it is still long way ahead of you, but we will be here!
1. Sees end of video
2. Sees a deathscreen
3. Rages
xcom is next to spelunky my favorite lets play of yours so far
And once again the fox defeated the lion, as the old prophecy told.
And now to see how well Ryan does.
i dont think he has had it often enough yet to realize just how INCREDIBLY overpowered and usefull it can be, especially after having used the ankh.
Ryan, you and michael should do more playthroughs together. He will slow you down towards more efficiency and you can show him more effective combat, you will both profit. And i hope you get shown to use the bloody kapala :D
It's only local Multiplayer so they can't, though Michael said he would be moving closer soon. :/
Michaelalfox kills shopkeepers for items.
Northernlion avoids killing shopkeepers like the plague.
Michaelalfox just beat hell.
Northernlion has even gotten there.
What can we deduce from these facts, children?
"I don't even need to go to the shop and get the 50K!" But you cant go to hell without that...
I lold so hard when he try to run from the thwomp...he almost got away too!
Love the star wars episode 3 reference 2:20
What do you get from taking monty to the exit?
I can't believe he was considering giving up his shotgun
@VulxaniSolas He records in batches.
No you can't. This is one of the things that changed from the PC version to the 360 version. Spike shoes do nothing again the plant other than give him some indigestion when he swallows you.
Holy crap, this is the closest I've ever watched a video after being uploaded. Sweet.
4:06 That strange music again....anyone knows whats up with that??
BTW... WHEN IN THE BLUE HELL IS THE HD COMING FOR PC?!?!?!?!?
passes 3 altars after sacrificing monty once. "you know what we haven't got in a while, the kapalla" ...oh Ryan, u so silly c:
There was no other way. The back was blocked off from the beams. The only way was to the left, and quickly.
I can't believe he didn't sacrifice the damsel for that second time. Jesus Ryan, the game is practically screaming at you to get the Kapala at this point.
WHY is he persistantly refusing to sacrifice enemies and montys? We've been commenting on how strong it is for like what, 30 episodes?
I just turned on my computer after school, and I find this! :D
14:10
NL: "So we could sacrifice Monty at the altar again, but I don't think that it's a good idea"
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!?
We already had a discussion about this. I thought that that person was trying to correct a different part of that comment.
Makes sense now?
You have to understand, Northernlion used to kill shopkeepers all the time. But, because of that, he always died on the next floor... to an angry shopkeeper. He made zero progress when he was killing shopkeepers.
does anyone know who composed the spelunky music/what sounds it's made with?
Man, some things are just unavoidable. I think this was just one such incidence.
You speak the truth oh speekeroftruth.
Kapala is not rare at all.
you just have to sacrifice two monties , and you get it.
You could have had it during that run.
Ain't no thang!
"We're going to Hell this episode!"
*26:14*
Why do I have my doubts?
I have to say, it's rather ironic that Shopkeepers drop money when they die, considering you won't need money for the rest of the run you're on. I guess it's so you can go high risk, high reward by killing all shopkeepers to increase your final score.
True.
You need to make more sacrifices.
That ending made my heart stop for a second :P
He does sacrifice the dogs occasionally, just not if he's not comfortable with his amount of health. Can't blame someone for wanting health over an item they he may already have or that might be useless to them..
I think i need that youtube herp derp addon for NL videos...
Uh part of the fun is watching him figure stuff out on his own and not crying about it in the comments.
Holy fuckin ninja doge skills in that first shop. Mark of the ninja is helpin your spelunky skills lol.
How is he not making progress? NL's is getting further (ankh, hejet) more consistently. Like at least once an episode
whats the schedule for xcom or is their not one???
No title?
lol "you know what item we haven't gotten in a long time.... the Kapala" 5 consecutive altars later :P. NL if you sacrifice two damsels (alive) you will always get the kapala. which would have helped you immensely during this run
"if you have 1 health and you trade 1 health for an item, this halves your chance of survival" - yeah, I do believe there's something mathematically wrong with this statement O.o
I had a strong feeling he would die the same way in the end like last episode
Once I spawned in a level a nedri snake shot at me and then a thwomp got me while I was stunned I had no control
that's spelunky. it's kinda the nature of the game
Thank you for taking your time to post consistently enjoyable videos. Keep doing your thing and don't let the negativity of some of the comments bring you down. If he didn't move, He would of died from the Anubis's beams. It pays off yo pay attention
"Welcome to ERRORS general store" - Store blocks key, coincidence? I think not.
The rock was legendary
I just noticed the exact same thing :D
The Kappala isn't that rare - just sacrifice Monty twice. There were oodles of altars throughout this run, it would have been so easy for you!
Ikr...
:o a lvl 99 michaelfox is in the wild!
I hate to be the bearer of bad news...
"You know what we haven't got in a long time? Kapola"
...
*facepalm*
Why did I go so fast?!!!
...The Northernlion Story.
I'm not sure if I want Ryan get to hell in episode 616 or in 66
Did you really need to see the that, to know it?
The top of the ladder is not even close, there were like four more behind the one that got there. They would of killed him.
First of all, it's easy to for us, the viewers to see the thwomp, but a player might not because he's going to be misdirected by Anubis. I mean, just look at him! He's flying around and flashing with deadly pink lights!

NL about a mummy" He's gonna walk into it... What an idiot"
Me about NL " He's gonna get killed in a few seconds... What an idiot" ;P
And to think I'm watching this one day after playing the PC version, having to kill a shopkeeper to uncover the Black Market, lol.
Northern Lion has some confrontational subscribers.
You let a giant solid stone square block covered in spikes fall on top of you and see if you live. O_o
You can get a lot of hp from sacrificing monty sometimes :)
