    Okay, this is ridiculous.
    Why are you using a mane and tail comb on its body? It's been designed for its mane , not its body, it will not have an optimum effect on it. If you use a curry comb you will achieve a MUCH better result, as curries help pull up dead hair and dust from its coat. Horses love being curried as it's like a massages for them. You then use a dandy brush which you use to flick off all the hair and dust the curry bright up. Finally, using a body brush finishes it of and wicks away any forgotten hair, dirt or grime that the dandy missed. A face brush is designed for the face and any other sensitive areas of your horse as it's very soft. A goat hair brush adds shine to the coat if you are entering a show.
    Also, why are you picking his feet out like that? You should be pointing the hoof pick AWAY from you and scraping dirt of and over the hoof. I don't know if you do it correctly as I only saw, like, two seconds of it but it did look that way.

    • @kasidymolson770
      @kasidymolson770 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      InsanityRam And who made these rules? Grooming routines vary from person to person and horse to horse, one person may use a curry comb but not a dandy brush simply because the horse doesn't like the feeling of the hard bristles or is sensitive to the touch of the dandy brush. One person may use a mane and tail comb because the horse likes that feeling and it works for THEM. Not all horses love the feeling of the curry comb and prefers to be vacuumed. Like I said it varies from horse to horse as they all have different skin, sensitivity etc, this works for BECKY and HER horse. There is no written rule for grooming a horse as long as you font endanger the animal in which case she didn't.

    • @katehickcox5048
      @katehickcox5048 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah! Most horses will not tolerate this so for most people it's not going to be very helpful. I'm partial to the rubber mitt curries as they are gentle enough for face and legs and remove a surprising amount of hair. This horse is fluffy enough to benefit from a shedding blade. Proper use of a shedding blade is less irritating than this.

      My Equine Life104 ok. Honestly, it doesn't matter what brushes you use as long as the horse is being cleaned, and is comfortable. Also, brushing techniques are different for western and English. Oh, and one more thing, if you don't like her videos stop watching and move on. Why don't you make a video yourself if you're such a wise man!

    • @ellanator3604
      @ellanator3604 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Miss Abbi AWESOMESAUCE!! Brushes are NOT different for English and western at all! They are the same!!! The reason you don't use a mane and tail brush on a horse is because it dose not get the dirt off. Most of the time the horses hair is too short. So maybe educate yourself be for you spread false information.

    • @Gigabitties
      @Gigabitties 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ellanator 360 um well I've been to English and western barns before, and they are different if you're talking about "proper" brushes. It doesn't matter what brushes she's using and they aren't you're usual mane and tail brushes. These are actual brushes for humans, but the horses are being cleaned so what does it matter? They aren't showing any signs of aggression or pain so what's the big deal?

      Exactly! That looks like a halter with no break away feature. She has also tied the horse to something you should never tie to. If he pulled back, he could easily break that board. It doesn't take a genius to find a solid place to install a proper tie ring.

  • @siveheart1
    @siveheart1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Oh I have learned the follies of going around the front end of a horse. The head came up and I learned how to fly. I learned afterwards the best way is to go around the back end as close to the rump as possible. They can still kick you, but they don't have the distance they need to get enough force in order to cause serious damage that way.

    I don't think that walking behind your horse in your method is that safe. Horses are unpredictable animals. If you had a little child with you the horse might not be able to see it, the horse could spook and hurt the child. I go around the front. I have crossties so my horse doesn't have enough room to bend his head all the way down. No hate just think that is very dangerous.

    • @BridgetCarta
      @BridgetCarta 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Horses are most definitely not unpredictable.

      @colleenmcgee4420 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Bridget Carta ok I love horses to death. But everytime I get on I put my life on the line. The horse could easily buck, trample me, kick me, bite me, roll on me, etc. I wouldn't trust a 1200 pound animal with my life. They are also prey animals, they will do whatever it takes to escape from danger.

We dream of a set up like this (in a smaller scale) someday. Keep up the good work. If you ever need someone to clean stalls I'm just up here in SC. My last kids(triplets). Left for collage two years ago so my days are wide open. My husband flies for Delta so I have a good bit of free time. My question is Do you ever have an open house? That would be a dream as would brushing horses, feeing chickens or scooping poop. Keep up the good work and holler of you ever need a free set of hands. You are the best teacher!

    What is wrong with his coat. You can’t just cut corners to save money, you have to buy brushes specially designed for a specific purpose. Also DON’T GO AROUND A HORSE THAT CLOSE, MAKE SURE YOU ATE OUT IF ITS KICKING RANGE. This horse also looks very agitated and annoyed. I hope you don’t just read the positive comments, because the negative ones are just trying to help you to have a happier, healthier horse.

    EDIT: it somehow got worse. Please do not clean hooves like that. Always pick from the hoof.

    I have a few questions. If your horse, mule, or donkey has an injury on its body, do you still use those same brushes? I am just asking because I know if the horses I work with have an injury I still like to clean the area to get a better look. Also why do give your horse a treat everytime you walk around your horse? Can't that encourage bad behavior? (Example: Nipping, biting, or maybe push you with his or hers head.)

    Okay I really think you guys need to cut Becky some slack. I get some of her information is incorrect but she's trying to be educational to a younger and inexperienced audience. "Why does she teach beginners wrong things?" If you watched the video she's doing what the horse likes and what I'd cheapst. A lot of what she does is DIY and everything equu she does it practically homemade except vet care and obvious things you will have to buy.

    With the thing you said about not needing any fancy grooming tools, just a friendly tip; the horse brushes you get at tack stores and farm supply stores are more affective and can bring more dead hair and skin to the surface than the two you used most likely can. Really the rubber curry comb or jelly scrubber and the dandy brush'll do you the best brushing-wise, and they generally last you many years. My backup is I own a light colored pinto mare whom has a real good coat and skin. This is just a friendly tip! Nothing harsh or criticizing against you. Your videos are great! ;)

    Firstly no hate but they are the incorrect brushes to use, not to mention you should place your hands on his hind ad you walk around as your posing a danger. That main and tail brush is not only inadequate but your using only 2 brushes for the whole body. Beginners plz don’t follow these instructions. I was literally triggered when she used that main and tail brush for the legs, that is uncomfortable for the horse and doesn’t remove dirt. I have owned horses my whole life and have years of experience, this is all incorrect 😬

    Hi Becky watch your videos when I can, my dad bought me some chickens from a friend he had but they are not regular chickens from the store. So I was wondering if all chickens lay eggs.

    And I noticed you used a mane brush FOR HIS LEGS which are really senstive and you should only use soft brushes.

    you should not brush the horses tail out unless you washed, condished and show-sheened it. One strand takes 7 years to grow back!

    Wrong information first off beginners please don’t listen to this I have nothing against this lady but she’s telling things that people need to be cautious of walking behind a horse especially one you don’t know can be highly dangerous

  • @sersys1

    Wow, I never though a horse could look more attractive than the woman grooming it. I wish she spent as much time on her self as on the pony, that way she wouldn't be such an eye sore.

    Normally you would do the hoves first because if they have something that's uncomfortable then you can get it out and they are comfortable

  • @bee5803
    @bee5803 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    OK so you need horse grooming brushs not another you can not use a mane and tail brush on the body you have to buy a curry comb a hard brush a soft brush a hoofpick and a mane and tail brush not a cat brush and a face brush and by the way you don't pick towards you with the hoof pick you pick towards the bum of the horse
