I do not know how to say this properly, but, Chef John, you are the Chef John of Chef Johns. I have made and eaten and shown off so many of your recipes. You have shown me how to make/cook/eat so much better than I ever knew. Thank you, sir.
Well, I've heard good things about the truthfulness of sporks, but I do wish there was a more objective and more ubiquitous piece of cutlery that could help us establish the level of crispyness.
Same! Was looking for a different kind of grilled cheese to make for my daughter and landed on that. Shes 16 now and still asks for it. Thanks Chef John!
Chef John casually reminiscing about the inside-out grilled cheese sandwich is kinda like one of the Beatles saying "Oh yeah this reminds me this little record we made called Abbey Road". The inside-out grilled cheese is legendary at this point. I still go back and watch that video just for the nostalgia.
The Italian sausage from one of your videos a while back would be excellent in this sandwich. I’ve made it twice without stuffing it into the casing because I use it on pizza. It contains a lot of ingredients, but it’s well worth the effort. The anise and marjoram were a little challenging to find, but I did end up buying them locally for around one buck each.
Thank you for this great idea. It looks so delicious! I need to make bread, anyway, so with homemade bread and marinated cheese, oh boy! If someone wanted to pull put all the stops, for a small party, you could make these with slices of small baguettes. A good-sized griddle would be best, so you could grill up a bunch at once, and have a helper serve them to your guests on little saucers. I suggest the saucers for portion control, so that each guest is sure to get one.
All these years later still making the same wonderful videos! 3:40 omg and you're still doing the puns too, there must be a dictionary sized volume of your puns by now! Love it!
I'm not on any social media other than TH-cam so I thank you for introducing this sandwich to me. I just made it for lunch for me and the wife and we loved it. Her eyes lit up with the first bite! 😄
SAH-WHEAT!!! We’ve been waiting for this masterpiece ever since you announced its Friday morning release on the Behind the Recipe Live! 🧀 🥪 … now, on to the rest of the video!! 💨 Be well, stay kind and blessings to all✨
I happen to have just eaten one of the worst lunches of my life, and here I find grilled cheese with olives. Sometimes it feels like the universe is messing with me.
That looks delicious and so simple to put together! I remember the one you did with the cheese on the outside which I make to this day, definitely trying this one out too chef!
This was easy to make and tasted wonderful! A grilled cheese sandwich, if properly made, is not bad - but this is SO much better, great flavor and not much more trouble than a plain grilled cheese.
I also like to mix the grated cheese with homemade cabbage and carrot saurkraut which is incredible. Similar idea with the acidity but it also adds crunchy goodness.
My family is required to eat a specific amount of Italian food each month. Since my uncle lost his mouth, it's been a bit harder to meet the quota. But this recipe looks invigorating. I can't wait to try it
You have inspired me to create a grilled cheese with some gorgonzola cheese mixed in. I know it has a strong flavor, (I call it wonderfully stinky), but it is about my favorite cheese. I have it from time to time, as a treat.
I added parmesan.... Grill your sandwich, LIGHTLY butter the grilled surface and press into VERY finely grated parmesan or related cheese. Re-grill ... careful not to burn. A side dip of a zesty sauce is 👍 too.
Chef John, my wife and I watched this recipe together, and as for me, it sounds amazing. Sort of like a pimento cheese grilled cheese sandwich with better cheese. My wife, on the other hand, looked increasingly fearful the more you described what you were doing. To the point she looked at me with deep concern on her face and asked, "Is it soggy?" See, she has an EXTREME aversion to soggy foods, and the idea of marinated cheese seems to have cause near apoplexy. Please advise, is the cheese, bread, or combi thereof soggy? I need to know or she won't let me make it.
I'm curious to try this and see how it's different. I suspect the acetic acid in the vinegar is having a similar effect to the sodium citrate in processed cheese, making it melt smoother.
The first time I saw an actual grilled cheese, it was Chef Alton Brown that showed how to make it by putting cheese on the outside and not just on the inside, thus making it an actual grilled cheese.
I never make a grilled cheese sandwich without grilling the inside of the bread first, stuffing it, then grilling the outside. I can't order grilled cheese sandwiches at restaurants any more because they always make them the way you've made them. The stuffing you've made looks Italian tasty.
I’d have to see, but if not I wish Chef John would do a couple bread recipes for me (us). I used to have a go to I could buy anywhere in the US, Branola. It was fairly inexpensive and healthy and worked for anything really, grilled cheese or peanut butter, maybe it wasn’t gourmet but it worked for inexpensive daily options or fancier options too. Orowheat discontinued it and didn’t replace it with anything comparable. I live in Illinois and I don’t have a replacement bc the bread here truly sucks. I tried freezing bagels bc it’s hard to screw up bagels so the bagels are good here but I froze the bagels they said were freezable for a week took em out and thawed them with a paper towel and whatever in the microwave on slow and they were terrible absolutely terrible. Even after toasting so I could really use a bread recipe. I know baguette works for everything but I was hoping for some healthier grains too. Please.❤
"Even though this is based on a recipe that went viral on social media, it is not stupid" - This is why I love you

Agreed. It's like he knew whatever is viral is either stupid or inhumane
I do not know how to say this properly, but, Chef John, you are the Chef John of Chef Johns.

I trust Chef John with my life. All of his recipes have never ever let me down and have always been super delicious and easy to make
I don't know chef, the knife cut made it sound crispy but im not sold, if only we had some kind on utensil that always tell the truth
Knife's not the guy. :)

Ha ha ha! Yes! Good one
Runcible Spoon has street cred
Well, I've heard good things about the truthfulness of sporks, but I do wish there was a more objective and more ubiquitous piece of cutlery that could help us establish the level of crispyness.
I got hooked on you from the inside-out grilled cheese, all those years ago. Thanks for the decade + of cheesiness, Chef John
Same! Was looking for a different kind of grilled cheese to make for my daughter and landed on that. Shes 16 now and still asks for it. Thanks Chef John!
Was that a veiled insult in disguise,?. I know it wasn’t.😂
Can't wait to tear the roof of my mouth on one of these!
Oh man, that pointy spot behind the two front teeth, 😂
I don't have back teeth anymore at 60, but I'm going for it. You can't have pleasure without knowing pain. 😂🎉

Even though it is 100 degrees here in Mississippi, this dipped in some tomato basil soup sounds incredible
@@josephpalmer2903 you could always make that soup " gazpacho " 😊
It is hot here in MS but dipped in tomato soup sounds delicious
Yes, I mowed the yard in hot MS today, and my mouth is watering watching this. I promise it’s smellavision!
"There's a very old saying I just made up." Love it 😂
oooh great tip about flipping towards the flat side! this is one of the many reasons I adore Chef John
Yes - Chef John is such a great teacher - gives us all the little details that make food successful and taste great
i've never thought about marinating cheese, i learned something new :D
I'll be honest, when I read that it was a marinated sandwich, I was afraid for something else. This, I will try myself.
Think of it as a take on Italian antipasto, in sandwich-form! 🥪😁

I love grilled cheese, and adding Italian flavors sounds like a game-changer! Definitely trying this out soon.

You are after all the main squeeze, of ypur Italian marinated grilled cheese!
Bravo !

Love your content. Thank you for bringing exciting food creations!
I'd be tempted to put that filling in my croque monsieur press but that looks delicious!

I happen to have just eaten one of the worst lunches of my life, and here I find grilled cheese with olives. Sometimes it feels like the universe is messing with me.
The universe has an odd sense of humor.
What did you have?
Grilled olives with cheese
OMG….this looks beyond fabulous. And I thought my grilled cheese with chutney was exotic, not even close. Thanks for this idea.
That bread and those roasted red peppers and olives look so fresh and beautiful. Yummy ❤
Been making these for years but I love your riff on it.
You've invented a new concept with that bread knife: "Brutalist" ASMR
i honestly will say of all recipes i try , Chef Johns are the most recipes i follow , thanks Boss great work as always. safe travels .
Been watching you for years, really glad to stumble upon new content! Thanks for the recipe
I love grilled cheese sandwiches with sauerkraut, so similar idea. The peperoncini juice would make a good marinade base, too.
Been missing my favorite chef on YT. Thank goodness you showed up tonight 💋 yummy
Hmm...I'm thinking of using giardiniera...yum!
from the thumbnail i expected it to have giardiniera tbh!
After a second glance, it really does!! Nice!
This is going on the rotation list
Looks reminiscent of a New Orleans mufaletta sandwich, which I just recently had for the first time. So I’m stoked for this video! Thanks Chef!
Always great recipes! Keep rolling Chef!
I love roasted red bell pepper in a sandwich. It instantly elevates the overall flavor to me 😋
Provolone Piccante is an excellent cheese to add to a blend for a pizza, meatball sandwich, etc.
The roof of my mouth winced in that first 30 seconds of this video. That said, I’ll be making this.
Tried this last night and it was delicious! This topping would be amazing on a chicken sandwich. Definitely will make it again.
That looks delicious and so simple to put together! I remember the one you did with the cheese on the outside which I make to this day, definitely trying this one out too chef!
I am literally drooling!
This was easy to make and tasted wonderful! A grilled cheese sandwich, if properly made, is not bad - but this is SO much better, great flavor and not much more trouble than a plain grilled cheese.
I wanna see how this turns out if you grill it inside out too... That was one of my favorite tips and I use it almost every sandwich

@@kingpickle3712 thank you so much
I've done something similar with giardiniera, super tasty 👍
That looks amazing!!
That just looks so good
I am going to make this. It looks wonderful
Amazing Chef John !!
I HAVE to try this!
You're the best! Been a subscriber for 14 years.
"Too much cheese?" No such thing! 😂
I don't know, have you ever eaten a whole pound of cheese as a meal? After five or six days of that, it can be a bit much.
I like it when it there's so much that it spills out and becomes a crunchy, browned skirt of cheese around the sandwich. I work for this to happen!
You underestimate how much some people love cheese lol
I make these with jalapeño pimento cheese.
I feel old, when I actually remember your inside-out sandwich with cheese outside recipe.... Good job chef :)
Oh yeah Chef! Yum.....and thank you!
That looked delicious.😋
looks fabulous, I will try it soon!

First we get Authentic Lasagna Nachos from YSAC. Now Italian Grilled Cheese!
I added parmesan....
Grill your sandwich, LIGHTLY butter the grilled surface and press into VERY finely grated parmesan or related cheese. Re-grill ... careful not to burn.
A side dip of a zesty sauce is 👍 too.
I am the Chef Giovanni of whether to add some salami. It makes me happy to hear you still making these little rhymes a decade later :)
I suspect this is another masterpiece. Definitely, going to try it. Don't know why but I think I want diced onions in it.
When I make a sandwich like this, I always toast the inside of the bread so it doesn’t get soggy. A sandwich press is a handy tool as well.
What a delicious 😋 looking 👀 Italian 🇮🇹 grilled cheese 🧀 sandwich 🥪! One of my favorites is grilled Swiss on rye with caramelized onions!
Chef John, what would you think about a side dish of warm marinara for dipping? Beautiful colors in this sandwich;)
So yummy, def going to make this.
Delicious and very tasty recipe
That looked great!!!
It looks really good. I love provolone.
Mayo on top and bottom, in leu of oil or butter, also comes out super yum.
Chef John videos is where I learned of using Mayo that way. Once you do it's hard to do otherwise.

As much as I enjoyed the sammich vid, your sing song cadence drove me up the wall. Keep up the work. Now.. I want a grilled cheese sammich..
I like your cheese choice way better than the "viral" choice. This looks SO good!! I'm making this soon!
Chef, have you made Korean Street Toast? If not, I would love to see your version!

👍 putting Cole slaw in mine.
Nice tip of the chef's hat to Nick DiGiovanni with the salami rhyme 👨🍳
Wow, inside out grilled cheese. Thats when I first joined the channel. 14 years ago. 👍

Cutting bread on an angle yields a longer slice. Wow, I've never felt so enlightened and dumb at the same time. Thank you, Chef John.
I love you Chef John
The Food Wishes veterans will remember that recipe he referenced.
I can assure you, with unwavering confidence, I have never thought “that’s too much cheese”
Good eats!
thank you for saying that about motz
This has made me hungry and there's not much I can currently do about that.
The first time I saw an actual grilled cheese, it was Chef Alton Brown that showed how to make it by putting cheese on the outside and not just on the inside, thus making it an actual grilled cheese.
Thanks Chef! question, do we know if this a grilled cheese, or if it's actually more of a Melt situation?
You're my hero Chey Jay. Instead of oil or butter for the bread when cooking I just lather each grilling side of the bread with some mayo.
I never make a grilled cheese sandwich without grilling the inside of the bread first, stuffing it, then grilling the outside. I can't order grilled cheese sandwiches at restaurants any more because they always make them the way you've made them. The stuffing you've made looks Italian tasty.
Looks so delicious... I can imagine some thinly sliced tomato in there as well, adding extra juiciness...

Man that bread looks killer. Id be happy with that and a stick of unsalted butter 🤤
