MITIARO, COOK ISLANDS: Island hopping from Rarotonga to a remote POPULATION OF 164!

  • Have you ever imagined remote living in a small tropical island community?! Mitiaro has the smallest population of any of the southern Cook Islands with a current resident population of only 164!
Arriving on the tiny island of Mitiaro feels like landing in paradise. The landscape, layout and culture of the island seems to epitomise everything you'd imagine remote Pacific Island living to be like. It's truly magical!
The main sights of Mitiaro include the healing waters of Vai Marere, the turquoise swimming hole of Vai Nauri, the two freshwater lakes of Roto Nui and Roto Iti as well as the picturesque harbour and village itself.
And it's easy to get there with only a 40 minute flight from Rarotonga or a 15 minute flight from Atiu or Mauke on Air Rarotonga.
In this episode we stayed at the incredible Divine Retreat, Mitiaro hosted by Cindy and Junior Abraham and the Nukuroa Beach Guesthouse.
Meitaki ranuinui and thanks for watching!

The church you showed at the front title is actually in front of my house back in Mitiaro Our house was possibly the shop you went to as we owned a shop in our house, my mother did not work in it but my uncles and aunties do so you may have been served by my auntie, my mum lives there and u actually drove past it near the start on the bikes. Just so many memories as the beach part where the boats go down, every evening us children gathered and slid down the ramp until night came and Vai Maere...when i was just so small before the age of five, i went swimming in there i walked everywhere and rode my bike everywhere and even attended the small school. Really beautiful memories i have there.
