Mark Hollis died today. RIP. A true genius, and an incredible concert! I would sit and listen in my room as a teenager for hour's on end. He will be missed!

foozlefop Agreed 100%, what a lost and underrated talent. This band got me through some of my toughest times in the 80’s and beyond. Thank you Mr Hollis x
i too am listening to it in 2024....such a transport that I almost seem to be enraptured by the sounds and his voice the Mark Hollis full of passion...real music 1986❤️
One of my favorite songs, of all time. Mark Hollis was a beautiful songwriter. And Colour of Spring is a gorgeous album. It's sad knowing that Mark Hollis is not in this world any longer.
I agree that these guys came from the future to do this magnificent piece of art. I ve been always convinced that talk talk is one of the most exquisite bands ever
I really would like to know with such a voice, songs, musicians at his side, why? Why for God's sake was Mark underrated????? Why were talk talk underrated.... I do not understand
@@simonamercuryjackson1874 This is just a hypothesis here, but music is about evoking feelings. If you as a listener like what a song does to you then you'll consider it good music. The market size of people like you and me that like what we feel when this music plays is rather small, I'm afraid. Most people don't empathize with this, which is why rating music is such bullshit sometimes. It's not about being good or bad, or virtuous and complex. It's about statistics: how many people feel something they wanna feel when they listen to Despacito? A fuck lot more than people that feel something with The Colour of Spring, and like what they feel.
@@simonamercuryjackson1874 It happens so often sadly but as I’ve got older and seen so many wonderfully gifted musicians/vocalists pass away I try not to see it as a negative anymore,. Instead I just feel truly blessed that I do appreciate and understand how amazingly talented and special people like Mark were and obviously the rest of the brilliant band around him….so even when groups disband or as in Mark’s case have to leave this mortal coil way too early, I try to take great solace from immersing myself in all the powerful ranges of emotions i feel when I listen to all of Talk Talk’s magical music and that will ever stop until it’s time to say my final goodbye! 🙏❤️
The drum work and bass work on this are simply astounding. Lee Harris and Paul Webb played on the album and are as much a part of Talk Talk as Hollis himself. The fact they are playing here adds to the full effect. I think they played in a reggae band together before Talk Talk. They played in another band after - See 'O.rang' if you want to hear more from them. Harris is an exceptional drummer. Webb is just a locked in bass player. Almost not there. Like any good bass player. Almost an extension of Harris' kick drum. Sub bass, like in drum and bass. David Rhodes who played guitar with Peter Gabriel played on this album and toured with Talk Talk as well. He's not here though I don't think. Still, the guitarists do an amazing job. Mark Hollis was one of the best songwriters and producers of the 20th Century. Certainly in the top 5 of what the 80's had to offer. He may have even been the best. Yes, he was a genius. Ahead of his time. He took a band through synth-pop at its inception, to this meister-werk that is the Colour of Spring in its heady hey day (pop/rock - if you can call i that) all the way to the final Spirit of Eden, incorporating experimental jazz and that 'oceanic' sound. Don't get much more different than that. Thank you and good night. But for me, the heart of the band - Harris and Webb, locked in that super tight, super groovy groove. Well, it just does not get any better than that. He did what he wanted to do. He came. He saw. He conquered.
This song is the soundtrack to the most important informative years of my younger years and you'll never know how apt this song is for me.. it's haunting. And it's very telling how he omits the word 'in' and keeps singing 'I don't believe you'.. right until the end when he can't mask it anymore.
Mark Hollis and Talk Talk you are amazing awesome great! Can't stop listening to all that enigmatc music! That melancholy voice from you Mark....I believe in you!
OK, they were about in the Duran era and got labelled as a synth pop band but they were so much more. Songs were so deep. Mark's voice so distinctive. Miss them.

This is a little sad - I came here to remember days gone by and find that, unnoticed by me, Mark Hollis passed away in 2019. Anyway… I first came across Talk Talk when the supported Bowie’s Serious Moonlight gigs at Milton Keynes IIRC. To be honest they were given a rough ride by the audience, but I suppose this is often the lot of little known bands supporting megastars. A year or two later ca e The Colour of Spring and I was captivated. Unfortunately though, this more or less coincided with a terribly unhappy event in my own life and I often played this song and Give It Up to console myself. So, bitter sweet memories. But that aside, the songs certainly stand the test of time and yes, the drum and bass are as tight as they come. Fantastic music.
Such a moving song, I forget how good Talk Talk were. My favourite track, unknown to many, Unique spine trembling vocals from Mark Hollis, amazing keyboard synth and guitar. RIP Mark, another one gone
"unknown to many" I've "discovered" them in my 30s, literally some months year ago.. and after listenng this cong for the first time I was caught by its magic.... this is one my my top5.
Only realised Mark died last year when I saw it in BBC list of celebrities we lost in 2019. Tragic. What a voice. What a writer. Was lucky enough to see a Talk Talk live and it’s one of the most memorable events I’ve seen. For a subdued performer he had enormous presence. RIP Mark.
IAN CURNOW el keyboards un autentico fenomeno y junto a Mark Hollis , la clave de ese sonido unico de Talk Talk....uno de los mejores directos de esa epoca
TT builds (this song) like waves rolling on the open ocean... or stars spinning, time-lapsed ... across the blackest night-sky. Elegant... goosebumps? Yeah.
Oh. My. God. I've just realised how that amazing lead guitar part was played. It was sampled, then rendered out on the keyboard. 3 decades. I had no idea. Thank you. And that 60Hz cycle hum? Didn't make it any worse. Seeing the keyboard player work that Pitch and Modulation wheel. Well, quite frankly, I thought that was David Rhodes working his Steinberger Trans Trem. What a revelation. Just a final shout out to the acoustic guitar player: Bravo!
Not even that. I've messaged Ian Curnow about it and he confirms it was always him getting the harmonics to feed back on his synth. It's a gorgeous thing that I always assumed was Robbie playing my favourite solo on guitar. I tried for years to play it on mine.
D'you know what, he may have said in the conversation I had but I cannot find it@@jeshkam . I'm not a synth buff so have poor skills at recognising synths. He was a big fan of the Jupiter-8. It could well have been that. Last year year he rerecorded I Don't Believe in You with a number of Talk Talk connected musicians and gave us a lovely close up of himself doing that solo here. Do YOU recognise that synth? Maybe it's not what he originally used? th-cam.com/video/GLGgGw5lKPY/w-d-xo.html
@@goodbyepolarbears172 I don't have a slightest clue what keyboard he's using on the rerecording, it could be some modern USB controller though... As for the album version - I'm not sure, maybe the Emulator?

If I could pick one concert to be present, just one, it would be this one. A good band is everything contributed by everyone. Beautiful.
Amazing vocal performance. Mark Hollis was one of the best of all time.

This is indeed a musical masterpiece that hits your sould and strikes your heart... you cant forget it.
Mine too. Utterly soul reaching.
He’s living in another world now. I’m thankful we heard his spirit while he was with us.
Yeah…. Such a shame. But he is “living in another world” now.

Una Obra de Arte.
Their live sound was so amazing. While this song was great on the album, it sounds even better live.
Possibly because they were already moving towards the more loose / organic feel of Spirit of Eden.
