    You probably already know this but: 1. When bolting your spare to the bracket, use nylok nuts...they won't vibrate off of the bolt. 2. Put a cable lock around the spare to the gooseneck frame. It will secure your spare from falling off plus adds some security so someone doesn't steel the tire. These are the best lessons learned, sometimes expensive but you won't ever forget it either.

    That's a decent trailer, it has a torque tube under it. I'm a welder at a production facility that builds trailers like that all day. They are a bitch to put in but well worth it.
    Good luck with your ventures
    And edit: the axel tubes are meant to be bent upwards to pre spring then for when you add serious weight to it. Probably just the spring perch. Take it easy

    • @OverKillPlusOne
      @OverKillPlusOne 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I could see in the video, spring perch was bent due to the side to side beam being bent up, sucked it in.

  • @JustinSmith-ph1le
    @JustinSmith-ph1le 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Looks like the axle perch is not sitting on the left springs, probably from the tire hitting it.
    Also, the axle tubes are bent upward, so that when the trailer is loaded down. If the tube was straight, then the axle will be bent down when loaded. It’s the same way for the trailer bed

    • @phantom21629
      @phantom21629 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It’s cause of lower elevation in Florida the air is more dense so the truck needs more fuel if you have a boost gage you will see that you are running more psi in lower elevation. It’s why engines have more horsepower in lower elevations turbo or no turbo. Good vid and good job driving, hauling is harder work then people know keep trucking

    I had my truck spare tire come loose from under my truck ( tire cable mount snapped ) and ran it over with my Big Tex 25+5 trailer. Luckily no one got hurt BUT it bent both axles. I had to remove the front axle tires to get it home about 100 miles. Took me 2 1/2 days to find 2 dexter 7K axles. I finally found a pair in Ft Pierce FL and they did not ship. I had to drive from NC to FL to pick them up. Pre pandemic dexter 7k axles could be found at any Big Tex dealer and were about $550 per axle. These were $950 per axle and had to drive to FL to pick them up. With that said Don't forget to check your truck spare tire under the bed. Good luck to you. Stay safe

    One thing you can do to make the Pre-trip faster on that Spare tire is once you get it mounted back on, make a mark with an ink pen on the nut that holds the Tire on and have it go onto the frame so all you have to do is see if that line is still lined up on your pretrip, I do it on all of my Lug Nuts as well, this way you can tell if it's starting to come loose instead of waiting till it's finger loose and you then notice the issue.

  • @EDOutdoors91
    @EDOutdoors91 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Bro those chains should be crossed, the right chain gets hooked to the left anchor and left to right. That's a violation. 5th wheel connector doesn't have to cross but gooseneck does.

    • @messenger3777
      @messenger3777 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Does not matter on a gooseneck.

    • @EDOutdoors91
      @EDOutdoors91 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Messenger it does, check with an actual DOT officer and they will tell you. Unless you have a gooseneck connected to a 5th wheel adapter. The whole point is for the chains to cross to catch the neck if it comes loose.

    When looking for a truck for your non CDL Hotshot setup are there anyting that's a must-have for your truck. And also on vice versa is there anything that maybe might be expensive was not absolutely necessary. What kind of things should you look for for your ideal non CDL Hotshot setup? And what should be avoided?

    • @ChrisTV1
      @ChrisTV1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really, everyone has their own ideal set up, so it’s really preference honestly. As long as she can be a work horse and won’t push me over the 26,000lbs GVWR I say get it. That’s the only thing I was looking for when I bought my 2500

    • @HalbertS-wt5hr
      @HalbertS-wt5hr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you can find a 3500/350 with single rear wheels and 10,000 GVWR, that would be ideal for non-cdl hotshot. Ford and GM both offer this option on new trucks (I have one now), and RAM offers it on 3500 chassis-cab. This configuration can be superior to a 2500/250 in terms of suspension and in some cases, wheels/tires, brakes and rear axle.
      Then get yourself a trailer with two 8,000 lb axles and a 16,000 GVWR. This will give you the most reliable, safe and legal setup to max at 26,000 total GVWR. If you know you won't be regularly loading any vehicles, rolling stock, etc, skip dovetails and folding ramps and go with a longer straight deck.

    Hi Chris, l know that l am late to comment, sorry! The spare tire coming off, that truly sucks.
    Has anyone told you about race wire? Or have you fixed your spare so it won't come off again?
    You need a nylon nut first, they have a nylon piece in the end of the nut, plastic really, so they can't vibrate lose over time. Secondly you tighten the nut as tight as is required?
    R.F.T. 😛, you drill a small hole through the centre of the stud, a small hole, them put a pin through it or race wire, a thin braided line. ( wire ) just above the nut, so it can't back out.( you can check g, on line for a pic, take you like five minutes to do, it will take longer to drive around to get the pieces, Hey, have " BIG TEX " DRILL IT. YA, BIG!
    Happy motoring.

    Bro, you need to grease your ball. It looked mighty dry. Do so once a week. Axles have curvature. The leaf springs should be in alignment.
