SHIP EMERGENCY BILGE SUCTION VALVE - ACTUAL TEST IN THE PRESENCE OF DNV CLASS SURVEYOR

The emergency bilge suction or bilge injection valve is used to prevent flooding of the ship. It is a direct suction from the machinery space bilge which is connected to the largest capacity pump or pumps. An emergency bilge pump is required for passenger ships but may also be fitted as an extra on cargo ships.

Yes, never saw this valve open, even testing it - this is only check and inspected in DRY DOCK

Some Surveyor only need assurance that it is working by vacuum test only, but some other surveyors want the ship crew to be stressed by testing it like this, actual test.

Sir, I am actually bit confused. In my ship emergency bilge suction valve is connected with Main SW pump.

Normally as per requirements, the emergency bilge suction is connected to higher capacity pump in the Engine does not matter which pump, is vary from ship design during ship building
