“I’m so happy there’s going to be new Ye music, but I’m also so scared about what’s going to happen next” is the perfect way to describe us YE fans, haha , Thanks for the video as always I’m excited for tonight ✌️❤️
while i disagree with just about everything kanye says politically and think his opinions can be genuinely harmful, when i recently saw him live at travis’ concert it was impossible to not feel the energy of everyone in that arena, me and my girl were losing it and screaming the lyrics of every song, getting to experience that live made it clear that his impact on culture can never be discarded or dismissed and that people will always love the art he’s made AVAA
I’m gonna trauma dump a bit here but i’m gonna try to explain why this song made me so uncomfortable and why i can never listen to it again. My parents had an extremely toxic messy long divorce, my dad suffered from alcoholism and bipolar disorder. I lived with my mom during the divorce, but every month i would spend a weekend with my dad, and we would do some sort of father son bonding activity, one of those weekends we stayed at a cabin and went waterskiing, my dad skied for the Canadian National team as a young adult so it made me feel close to him, enough that i didn’t even noticed how messed up the situation was, he didn’t tell anyone were we went, it was a kidnapping, he was drunk for most of the time he was driving the boat or the car, i was in danger and at the time i didn’t want to be anywhere else i only wanted to be with my dad so badly that i couldn’t see how much i was being hurt. And he wanted to be with me too, he seemed happy to me at the time, but seeing Ye’s broken smile reminded me too much of my dads. He would attempt suicide a few months after the divorce was finalized, he survived, i see him maybe once a year now but i don’t consider us to have a relationship, and i don’t want to have one. When i see this video, i can’t not see North West being in the studio with Ye as being me in that cabin, his dad sharing his passion with his daughter, and this might save Ye’s life, but i don’t care about Ye and i’m scared for North West, i’m projecting and i know that but i’m really scared for her, i only want North West to be safe. She does not have free will in this scenario, i don’t think it’s a good thing for this to be released even if it’s good art, even if she had fun making the song like i had fun waterskiing. This does not need to be public.
Despite not having any experience similar to yours, I think I feel the same and see it in a similar way. And I can think of artists who have involved their kids in their art without putting them on display.. which feels different, so there are ways of creating something with your child without it being a situation that is harmful or.. I’m not sure what the right word is, manipulative? Using them?
AAVA! Truthfully at this point I’m less excited about any new Kanye projects but I am grateful that we still have you doing these measured compassionate analyses to counteract all the reactive gunk out there
Very interesting perspective. Great video. As someone with much more in depth knowledge of Ye's life and affairs, I'd debate a few things. But overall you've got some great takes here. Your song analysis are always a joy to watch
One of my core life lessons, one I keep coming back to: Every human is 100% human 100% of the time. A racist is a human being racist. An artist is a human doing art. Ye is a beautiful, necessary human, and I'm glad hes here with us. I just wish he would get help and actually learn how to think critically, because his antisemitism is horrid. Hes hurting other humans.
Amazingly put with what you want from ye. He’s an artist and even when he says outrageous things it doesn’t take away from him being the greatest artist of this generation. You can and should still appreciate the art.
AVAA! Your Ye videos are fun to watch, mostly because I don’t particularly agree with you on Ye being “the greatest living artist”. It’s just cool hearing your wildly different (but still thought out) opinion!!
We expect art from the artist. I'm a daddy's daughter and I teared up with you talking about your daughters and I teared up with Ye and Ty Dolla with their daughters and that's beautiful! Thanks so much for this! AVAA
AVAA, loved the continued defence of nepo babies (as someone who one day hopes to raise a whole tribe of them!). Great analysis of Ye and the unyeezy space he operates in 2024 as well!
Haven't watched the video yet (about to now), but just a tip that the audio in the right side is louder than the left. It sounds like a different mic is getting sent to each side (the left side sounds farther and lower quality with some room echo). Not trying to be pedantic; there was another video of yours with the same issue. Changing my output to mono makes it good again.
I’m about to type a lot idk if anyone will read it but it’s my perspective on the Kanye situation that dates back to 2016 when he first said on tour he would have voted on Trump before being hospitalized, which I believe was the official beginning of him truly becoming a problematic figure for most democrats/liberals. How did Trump get elected? Because America had an underbelly of people with “deplorable” views that resonated with a candidate who said things they were thinking but not allowed to say and it was a rejection of the status quo in politics of candidates being fake (saying what they’re supposed to say) and thus clearly not being their authentic selves thus not trustworthy even compared to someone who openly lies and has poor character like Trump, who like Kanye , despite spreading misinformation or expressing ignorant thoughts , comes off as his authentic self. Why were so many people surprised he actually won in 2016 and why did so many people who thought Trump was awful not vote? Because we had no idea so many people felt that way because it was so socially unacceptable to speak freely in the mainstream about those beliefs that resonate for Trump voters. Back in 2018 right before the MAGA hat debut Kanye was tweeting about a new life philosophy he thought of when hospitalized of Loving Everyone and he was going to name the album that turned into the album Ye , Love Everyone and on the front cover put a picture of the doctor who Ye felt was largely responsible for his moms death. Kanye tweeted that he wanted to “stop hating” and also he said that everyone should think of the person who caused them the most harm/trauma in their lives and say out loud that you love and forgive them. Because Kanye apparently did that with the Doctor and it freed him of that trauma. In 2023 after the Alex Jones fiasco a Jewish physicist named Eric Weinstein was on the Joe Rogan podcast and said that he and Kanye spent a couple days together in 2018 and they discussed the links between African American generational trauma from slavery and Jewish generational trauma from the Holocaust. Weinstein said a few days later Ye had his 2018 TMZ interview where he said “slavery for 400 years? That sounds like a choice” and according to him Kanye also said he loved Hitler in the interview but Weinstein convinced Ye to beg them not to air it and they didn’t. Was the slavery comment actually saying black people chose to be enslaved literally in the past? No the context was he was talking about “mental enslavement” to still feeling the trauma of slavery even generations later because of how Kanye feels liberal media promotes a victim mentality to black people. Was Kanye wearing a Trump hat a symbol of him supporting Trumps views? No Kanye said as much in interviews in 2018 that the hat represented to him basically his freedom to express himself however he wanted, and doing that in the face of the world telling him not to was empowering and in many interviews he talked about how the F Trump mentality wouldn’t solve anything and we should approach the conversation with love. Love Everyone was said to be an album where Kanye raps a bunch of offensive things almost begging to get “canceled” and the concept was to forgive . So when Kanye said he likes Hitler was it about him liking what Hitler represents to everyone else ? No he says it’s because he “invented highways” and microphones which is so hilarious that I can’t imagine even Kanye believes. So when Kanye puts on a kkk hood, wears a confederate flag, brings Manson and Dababy on stage, tries to free Larry Hoover,MAGA hat etc he’s never actually saying he supports what these people are known for doing wrong. It’s about freedom, and saying what you truly feel(even if everyone thinks it’s wrong or you’re bad for thinking it). Being like a child and being shamelessly expressive equating that to being free is consistently a theme throughout Kanye’s discography. A child before they learn may say something offensive or do something wrong just being themselves and I believe Kanye sees that as our natural state before we are conditioned by society to be less honest in Kanye’s view. And why does Ye never stop saying controversial things despite the backlash? Because he has extremely good positive reinforcement with the results he’s had in life going against what society told him not to do with his immense success and praise he gets. It would be “crazy” for Kanye to not change if he wasn’t being reinforced with success and resonating with people for 20 years now. So what I think Kanye’s main point is we need to stop as a culture demonizing the people who believe things we don’t like and have an open conversation that starts with love. Notice how a conversation is different when you start off by complimenting someone before you disagree, they become way more receptive to hearing what you have to say, especially if the alternative is making them feel like a horrible person for their beliefs. I think most Kanye artistic statements are about freedom and unity. Culture merging with Ballerinas dancing to hip hop on Runaway or putting Pusha T and No Malice on a song together to show how God brings people together, among countless other examples. If we look at the human race or America as truly 1 and indivisible , then we have to say that the worlds ignorance/sickness is our own. Yeezus(Ye is Us), Ye means in the Bible means you or everyone , Kanye means “only one”…Most beautiful thoughts are always beside the darkest, I hate being bipolar it’s awesome, I put my hand on a stove to see if I still bleed and nothing hurts anymore I feel kind of free, (I’m a rapper who is addicted to material things and tries to act cool but I’m also “so self conscious” and buy a lot of clothes and am aware of the fact I don’t really need them-All Falls Down. (All statements about Kanye loving and forgiving himself despite his flaws or things he’s done in the past (that in the present are just thoughts, the past is dead and it no longer exists in the present- hence Ghost Town) When Kanye approached Trump as “a fan” and came to him with love he was able to get progress on prison reform and free some people , when Kanye put his hand on the hot stove of his hateful feelings and came to grips with the fact he must forgive that doctor to move on , he felt free. And ultimately I don’t agree with everything Kanye says but I think these are his intentions.
Wow pretty amazing take. As someone who’s been trying to make sense out of Kanye for years because I love his music. It’s so bizarre some of the things he says and does but the message in the music is so positive and uplifting. His music moves me but I feel guilty for loving an artist who has views that are harmful to a huge group of people
@@Kev-1k thanks for reading it, I know it’s a lot lol. Yea even though I feel like he has good intentions I can’t deny that there’s real life implications of what he says and even though I think his end goal isn’t to harm people he does have antisemitic beliefs that when spoken out loud can lead to hatred from other people who take that as fuel to aim towards people for simply being Jewish… though I don’t believe Ye hates anyone let alone an entire race/religion/people. I don’t want to be someone who is just such a big fan for so many years that I do mental gymnastics to put a positive spin on it. I’ve watched alot of his interviews over the years and followed him on social media etc and I truly believe that the public has it wrong putting him in a box as a “villain” . He’s not in the same ballpark as R Kelly, Chris Brown, Harvey Weinstein , Epstein etc of people who literally physically harmed people and I don’t think even with his words Kanye’s aim is to hurt people.
To the people that have a hard time enjoying art due to the flaws of the artist, consider what’s involved in making our iPhones, diamonds, clothes, etc. Any damage Kanye has done is minuscule in comparison to the slave labor that goes into making half the stuff we own. We inadvertently support so many forms of immortality. You only escape it if you’re living off the grid, give up technology, and making your own clothes. You are not evil for owning an iPhone, buying your wife a diamond engagement ring, or listening to Kanye. Be easy on yourself and allow yourself to enjoy art.
AVAA Skye, was wonderiht if you were planning on reviewing the new armand hammer album BLK LBL? Its a limited vinyl only release so it might be difficult to get your hands on but there are rips online if you're comfortable with that.
i need people in the world to b as comfortable with being wrong for a moment as prof skye is. like the humility...is huge but you can learn to accept eing wrong about anything and either learn or not and move on
Skye, you look funky fresh as always. I gotta know some of your Star Wars prequel contemplations. I went from watching them on nonstop repeat as a kid to hating them as a teenager and now think they’re a genius philosophical conversation with the OTs that just has some bad acting/aspects to it.
i loved your review of once twice melody and i would be incredibly interested to hear your thoughts on beach house's 2012 release "bloom". i think it is something that you would have a wonderful time listening to and i feel like your academic background could lend itself to creating an intriguing perspective on the core themes of the album. AVAA 🍾🍾
Wonderful video, as always. I think it is worth to consider the possibility that Ye isnt antisimetic in his core, even though the way he has worded himself seem to suggest so. African Americans (as a people) struggle to gain generational wealth and power simply by the opression of their history, which feeds the feedback loop and sustains an ecosystem that is extremely hard to escape (as a people). Such an imbalance based on race naturally brings jealousy and anger. Sadly, I don’t think Kanye is very capable of thinking politically. Surely, jewish people are not the culprit of such an opression. It is coming from a long, ongoing, history of opression extremely hard to escape because of cultural and socioeconomic feedback loops. Ye wants to rebel against an opression he has felt his whole life, which is very understandable. To jump straight to the mentally ill conclusion is to simplistic. He might be mentally ill, but even if so, his frustrations has a foundation that should be talked about. PS: making good shoes is hard.
AVAA! If the Serge Gainsbourg/Ye parallels continue, and North has a similar trajectory to Charlotte Gainsbourg, we’re in for some great art in 20 years.
If complex lyrics were important Aesop Rock would be a top 10 rapper - and he isn't top 1000 It's your bestie Miss Miss Westie (gesticulation like Missy Elliot) is as catchy as Closer by Chainsmokers or Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen
there was a video that Kanye posted to Instagram in which North was describing an idea for the music video to him, she created a whole story board for the video. This combined with her art skills and Kim reposting the video makes me feel that Ye may have turned the corner and realized she's actually expressing herself through Tiktok. Maybe back in 2022 when the divorce was the focal point for his art and he was publicly having a horrible fallout I'd agree with the hesitation of bringing North into a song, But it really feels like Ye is taking on the role that Donda had in his life. Pushing creativity from their child unconditionally.
To play devil's advocate Donda pushed Kanye's creativity in a school environment and pre-social media And by the time he was in the public spotlight was when he was an adult in his 20s
Idk man. I don’t think this is really about the divorce at all. If anything, to me this is the first time Kanye has released art that is completely separate from the divorce.
He will never make music that is disconnected imo, it’s a part of him and as long as he is talking about his wife and his kid, it’s indirectly about his divorce
Not tryna provoke a reactive response but why exactly? Artists throughout history have illustrated we as a species are fully capable of being simultaneously awful and also uplifting/pushing culture forward, so a harsh black and white definitive type solution doesn’t seem appropriate here. So much of art’s value is how once it’s released into the world it becomes a product of its consumers, obviously it’s shaped by its creators but art can take on infinite new meanings for people beyond the original intent, so why should some art be condemned even if it comes from the worst of people? The argument can be made that the artists immoral beliefs influence the art they make but this percentage of influence is variable from thing to thing and the more clear it is, that just begins to border on propaganda which isn’t hitting the mainstream like popular art is; plus oftentimes this discussion is used surrounding art that has little relevance to the outside transgressions of the artist. (This gets muddier when we’re talking about ye’s new releases cause of the content but think ppl asking if we can still enjoy old kanye or Michael Jackson)
Big question- when was Ye’s last hit? Like real hit that got serious play? I’m pretty sure it was Runaway, released in 2010. 14 years ago. Every-time you talk about what a great artist Ye “is” you really should be using past tense.
That is a fair question, but that is not the way that I look at it. I think his greatness as an artist should be judged more on how he impacts culture itself by that metric literally everything he has done has changed the way that music is made. And obviously, not just music.
@@professorskye you mean how he “impacted” culture 😂. Those days were again 10-12 years ago. Nothing he’s done since then, imo, has really impacted much. But, having said that, listening to Vultures, I do like what I hear so far. Which I think is the point since “he’s just trying to get paid”
@@ey3z4ya when was the last songtime Ye made that influenced anybody? Don’t get me wrong, he’s influenced music a tremendous amount in his career. But the last 10 years?! I’d say barely at all if at all
The problem is that we as humans judge people wrongfully…. We define one another in its it’s rawness form. Like all you just said is just wrong. Take your expectations off him and anyone else… don’t define his life… I bet you couldn’t walk in this man’s shoes. I don’t believe Ye is racist in any form he’s just trusted people that stabbed him in the back and he lashed out…. You really don’t have to talk about him… stop talking about him it’s simple…
AVAA but i can't say i agree here. you can argue that having north humanises kanye but if anything, for kanye cynics like me (i've hated the man since the original political insanity in 2016 and to date his only great album imo is yeezus) it does the opposite. it feels coldly engineered and wildly insincere, and through what we know of his personal life (especially shit with kim) kanye is a controlling enough man that i don't buy this as anything else other than north being used as a bargaining chip like it felt like adonis was by drake. hell, what made yeezus so emotionally potent for me was that given kanye's new marriage to kim and burgeoning family, the aggressive demeanour seemed like something manufactured to deflect the press's attention so that his personal life could exist in peace away from the camera. tbf i come from the perspective of listening to the whole album which is like. 30 percent insincere provocation over every shitty thing kanye's spent his life saying and doing, 69 percent disgustingly misogynist in the vein of how kanye is treating his current partner bianca censori and 1 percent cowardly musicians scurrying into the kanye west industrial complex hoping to make a quick buck as their careers fade (looking especially at james blake, 88-keys, no i.d., freddie gibbs and timbaland here), which you obviously didn't have here.
AAVA, His music from the last 10 years hasn’t been important cultural moments. Just because he “needs his meds” doesn’t justify anything he does or says. Hes just a rich guy

Cool vid. I think you missed the mark on the nepobaby argument. People complain because often times nepobabies make mediocre art.
And do you know about / abscribe to ring theory?
i loved your review of once twice melody and i would be incredibly interested to hear your thoughts on beach house's 2012 release "bloom". i think it is something that you would have a wonderful time listening to and i feel like your academic background could lend itself to creating an intriguing perspective on the core themes of the album. AVAA 🍾🍾
Who cares about what Kanye says, it's about what he does
I’ll take u on that jik vs late reg argument any day, no fistfight tho but late reg so much better
I think Consequence was the guy who wrote for Kanye.
Think its Rhymefest
hyave you checked the kendrick lamar chanel commercial_
15:00 EXCELLENT
AVAA! This will be a wild ride.
AVAA also please do a review of Slitherman vs Nephew
AVAA! If the Serge Gainsbourg/Ye parallels continue, and North has a similar trajectory to Charlotte Gainsbourg, we’re in for some great art in 20 years.
An adorable, slightly horrific video. I saw parts of it as a display of a handoff or a legacy. Wonderfully done
If complex lyrics were important Aesop Rock would be a top 10 rapper - and he isn't top 1000
It's your bestie
Miss Miss Westie (gesticulation like Missy Elliot)
is as catchy as Closer by Chainsmokers or Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen
ridiculous to say Aesop Rock is not in the top 1000 rappers. list 1000 rappers better than him right now

there was a video that Kanye posted to Instagram in which North was describing an idea for the music video to him, she created a whole story board for the video.
To play devil's advocate Donda pushed Kanye's creativity in a school environment and pre-social media
And by the time he was in the public spotlight was when he was an adult in his 20s
AS I LAY ME DOWN TO SLEEP 😭😭😭
plugging timber timbres Lovage album just in case vultures drops Friday. AVAA!
Idk man. I don’t think this is really about the divorce at all.
If anything, to me this is the first time Kanye has released art that is completely separate from the divorce.
He will never make music that is disconnected imo, it’s a part of him and as long as he is talking about his wife and his kid, it’s indirectly about his divorce
AVAA!
AVAA but you gotta listen to the new Mk.gee album. It’s a completely new and heavenly sound
29:24 This album and the next 2 albums have some of his most vile/funny lyrics, which would also prove his humanity
Avaa we gotta stop the separation of art and artist shit

@@BelzertheRipplerWrong again. Musical influence is not measured only by 'hits' or radio play.
@@ey3z4ya when was the last songtime Ye made that influenced anybody? Don’t get me wrong, he’s influenced music a tremendous amount in his career. But the last 10 years?! I’d say barely at all if at all
@@ey3z4ya imo, the most influential thing he’s done the last 10 years was introduce Chance the Rapper to the world. 🤷♂️

Beyonce auditioned for her music career at 9 years old 🤔
The problem is that we as humans judge people wrongfully….

I don’t think you should make a video about the album, antisemitism is running rampant though it.

Give Yeezus a listen, it’s prof’s and my favourite!
@ollyflashman oh I have and seen him live it's a not on my Nellie from me lol. Stay safe.
James Blake is at the peak of his career…otherwise respect your opinion
Aside from the antisemitism and the bullshit, he's had 3 bad albums in a row, why are we gassing up vultures?
