    I wish I could present as more butch but I'm so soft and girly in appearance! Too smol to be butch the way I want to be. Sidenote- can we talk about the advent of long-hair butches? The lesbian fuckboy? The culture is changing a lot...! I would love to analyze/see an analysis of this!!

    So can a woman who is very masculine be a butch even if she’s heterosexual? I have a sister like this. Her voice is naturally masculine and she only wears men’s clothes, yet I’ve only seen her date guys. I’m a woman who likes women though😉

    So wait feminists in the 1970's discourages both butch and femme? Interested in this being unpacked more...

    • @cherrypanda887
      @cherrypanda887 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      hang1iderswing basically in the 70s feminists were really focussed on getting away from relationships with men who will oppress them, and so butches were seen as being like men and creating a weird power dynamic with their femme. thats part of the story, but the main part was that butches were seen as not being real women and trying to opt out of femininity to get ‘masculine privilege’ which isn’t even a thing but that’s the way it was seen. i think there are a few extra factors but the latter was the big one

    • @hang1iderswing
      @hang1iderswing 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh interesting thanks for replying. Like in my own life this also comes up, on the one hand sometimes I wish I didn't try to replicate heteronormativity in my presentation and relationships rather rejecting it, on the other hand it's how I was conditioned to be and if someone outside of myself told me not to do it I'd probably object.

    • @wonder-womyn
      @wonder-womyn 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There was still a strong “butch/femme” dynamic into the 90s. I still see it today.

      Butch can be used as an adjective to describe masculinity in anyone, including men. Though in the English language it's not used as a noun for men, just women. "That man is butch" makes sense. "That man is a butch" does not make sense
