Let us never forget the path the Boks have taken since 2017, ranked 7th in that year and again in 2018. The turnaround is incredible.

    • @mjribes
      @mjribes 29 วันที่ผ่านมา +7

And now look at them. These are the Bok's stats since the beginning of 2023:
      Played 18, won 15, lost 3 (83% win rate)
      Points for 593
      Points against 278
      Average score 33-15
So on average over the last 18 matches the Boks have won by 18 point. Madness!!

Well I hope they can turn around because world rugby is better for it. However, my concern is whether they have the feeder system for it. The Bok side turned around but at the time that side was actually already full of good players, it just needed better coaching and leadership team plus there is a factory line of rugby player production.

I am a Bok supporter living in Australia. I have many Kiwi and Aussie mates and am loving life at the moment. They now know I I felt for many years. During those bad days our stadiums were also half full while the Wallabies and All Black matches were sold out. As you guys said, people like winners! The diversity in the Bok setup as grown the playing pool in SA as well as being able to pick the right players no matter where they ply their trade. The All Blacks and Wallabies need to do the same. Go Bokke!

Hit the nail on the head re the South African vibe. We are a frontier at almost every level of the human experience - always have been; frontiers are messy, robust and even violent, it is where the rules are made on the fly and everything is negotiable. The best thing about a frontier is that you don't ask for permission. Woke cannot survive or take root here - thankfully.

As a welsh onlooker the only thing i would say in an otherwise great performace is they still prefer to physically dominate the oppisition as is their DNA as opposed to new zealand at their best where the dominance is translared efficirntly to the scoreboard i think the boks left about 20 points behind it could hsve been 50 plus but the win was important and with something to spare and given the number of pumas in the north the decision by aus and nz to say the bok tesms were persona non grata in super rugby is looking worse and worse every year it must be hard to see the boks and their feeder tesms improve year on year while nz seem to hsve lost their aura i agree the boks need to be ruthless

Australia has other options. Aussie Rules and Rugby League are very simple games with zero referee/ umpire influence. Aussie Rules can drew 90,000 for a club game. League is a very simple game with no contest for possession. Nobody knows what’s going on in a rugby match except the referee and he is often wrong. The contest for possession defines rugby but for some inane reason World Rugby keeps trying to undermine it.

Imho Aussies are too comfortable in the bosom of the Nanny, and don't know what adversity or hardship feels like (like some of our Bokke do).
So when the cookie crumbles, Aussies get into a negative emotional headspace rather than becoming more determined and unified.
Reminds of Darkest Dungeon and your dudes are at death's door, when their resolve is tested. Boks/Argies get positive, Aussies and Kiwis get negative.

I have to agree with your sentiments. I am ex Maritzburg College but live in Perth. Love my rugby. My son loves basketball so I started coaching his. Whilst not a collision sport it is contact and can be physical, trying to get the boys to realise they’re allowed to be rough with each is a nightmare. They’re constantly taught to “mind their own space” “don’t touch each other” “stay in your bubble”. Then you put them on a court and tell them it’s ok to foul the other other guy to stop a basket. It just doesn’t work. That’s basketball. I’d hate to know what the poor rugby coaches are dealing with.

Extremely disrespectful to talk about Jesus in that way! Very disappointed in that being aloud in the content, it has absolutely no place in the conversation. If you cannot think about an intelligent thing to say, just keep quiet or leave it alone but to insult the Lord and Saviour of many who watch your content is uncalled for.

Important to remember that Rassie and co will be looking at the next world cup, so we are seeing new players being blooded. I think the Aussies will pitch up for this one. They will still get smashed but they will probably put up a performance to be proud of. Never under estimate AB's. They will not be happy about losing a home game to Arg. Expect to see something dangerous looking from them.

australia doesn't produce rugby players because you get paid twice as much on average to play league/afl, there are no people at the games, the high schools that play rugby don't promote rugby as a career trajectory. Far from rugby being alienating because it is brutal, it has a reputation as being for rich people because it is played by private schools in qld/nsw. On the nanny state, executive governments don't create negligence laws; it's not the nanny state making young players tackle low and not too hard or whatever. In general I would welcome a functional regulatory government in Australia and I'm thoroughly pleased I don't endure whatever hellish decay-state south african government delivers.

I think South African rugby fans and pundits are mistaken to believe the school system that has done so well to bring South African rugby this far will continue to lay the golden eggs.
South African rugby for its own survival needs to invest in underdeveloped parts of the country to insure its own longevity. Do it now because all this success is 8 key injuries away from us head scratching with our mouths open, trying to beat Romania.

That's not true, SA schools are a rugby player factory, just go watch the games and follow the players, the least of the problems in SA rugby is the number of upcoming brilliant players, the problem is they don't get recognised and the talent slips through the system.
National teams only keep an eye on about 100 players, that's it.
I think there will be more effort in the future to scope out the youngsters but there's no debate that the SA schools are pumping out incredible rugby talent which most other countries could only dream of which is why foreign countries are so keen to follow the SA schools to see who they can poach.

@@groenrizla2513 what about the schools that don’t have rugby? There are tens of thousands of those. That’s what I’m talking about. Also, there are amateur soccer games up and down the country. Rugby can really get a foot in there too and have similar footprint. I think concerning ourselves with what the Europeans and Australasians are doing is a mistake. We need to innovate to a point where people from places like Alice don’t have to leave home.

As predicted SA won and won well. Like everyone else, I thought that that would be the outcome, but I also thought the Aussies had the potential to cause an upset, that didn't happen. Congratulations SA. I thought the AB's would win by 10-15 points. That didn't happen. Congratulations Argentina. But, it's only round 1 of the competition. Anything can happen this coming Saturday and moving forward.
If the SB do win (which is what should happen) this Saturday, but they only just win or even lose, how will these guys react. If the Wallabies just lose or win and win well, then what. I remember the SB were favourites to win the RC in 2022. It would have been their first RC title in a long time. They got spanked in the second test by the AB's in their own back yard. I wouldn't be too quick to write any team off at this stage. Sure, get excited about your teams performance, but we're only at the starting point.
I find it a little odd that the old bloke keeps stating that Oz and NZ have become nanny states and somehow it's made them weaker in rugby and in general throughout. Ummm... Hate to burst his bubble, but NZ has been classified as a nanny state for the past 30 to 40 years and yet, the AB's have dominated the Boks and everyone other rugby playing nation, physically, mentally and with a high level of skill set for the most part over that period.
Politics aside, could it be that it's the SB time to shine. It's their moment in the spotlight. The SB have been in the AB's shadow for such a long time, they've now manage to rightfully claim the number one status by themselves and sit at the top of the mountain on their own, while everyone else is chasing. It's a nice position to be in. Enjoy the moment. Not sure how long they'll be there for, Ireland and France are close and want a piece. The AB's and England are still at the crossroads and Argentina is a hungry beast. This competition is wide open and it's there for anyone. The only clarity that is certain, we know who the front-runners are on the first week of the competition.
It will be interesting to see if the Boks can dominate like the AB's did.
