The explanation is simple, of course:
Jedi: "We are looking for the Sith Lord."

Love this. It reminded me of the memes mocking Sidious as "just a politician." But isn't that exactly what caught the Jedi Council off guard? • @arx3516

Exactly, we think of Darth Sidious as the template for a Sith Lord, but for the jedi order a typical Sith Lord would be someone like Marka Ragnos, a proud warlord eager to meet the jedi in open combat. The most carfty Sith Lord they faced before was Revan, who, despite being a strategical genius, attacked them openly in open warfare. It was already a huge success for the Jedi to have figured out that there was a Sith Lord scheming in the shadows.

It's summed up pretty well on the ROTS novelization when yoda duels Palpatine. Yoda very quickly realized he stood no chance, because the sith as a whole evolved and adapted, and the jedi had not. The jedi were so arrogant that all of it just wasn't possible, and Palpatine played upon that arrogance so perfectly. As powerful as sidious was, the jedi ultimately screwed themselves far more than Sidious did.

I think it was honestly just pure Jedi arrogance that stopped him from being discovered as a sith. First, the arrogance in their knowledge of the sith and not even entertaining the possibility that the sith would have evolved while they stayed stagnant to the Jedi order. A sith is someone with yellow eyes whose foaming at the mouth ready for combat like Darth maul.
And here's palpatine, a friendly old patient man who already has the highest position of power in the galaxy and every time there's been an assassination attempt. He's always been a scared blubbering mess. "No way this guy could be a sith they don't have the patience for this"

It was a huge blindside that we struggle to understand because we cannot fully put ourselves in their shoes. Imagine the only enemy you have, who has been dead for 2000+ years, and you only know from books, and boom it turns out they had an elaborate plot which is far beyond their capabilities as you know them, and they just wipe out your whole shit in like a few days.

earlier Clone Wars novels (quite possibly Shatterpoint) had Yoda and Windu discussing Palpatine, and one of them said "A shame he cannot touch the Force. He would have made an admirable Jedi" . Combined with the belief he wasn't Force Sensitive, the idea of "The only reason Palpatine isn't a suspect is because he already rules the galaxy" makes a certain kind of sense. They just lacked the key pieces of information that we the audience had (and though the cop and clone troopers who carried on following the trail while Mace was fighting Grievous' forces did indeed walk in on Palpatine, they were all murdered before they could call it in)

I think the Jedi never believed Palpatine could be the Sith Lord just because mostly all other Sith's in history wanted to rule and show that they ruled, or scheming in the background just to later take over the Jedi couldn't believe Palpatine was the Sith Lord because he was right there with almost absolute power and yet Palpatine played it off like he was chosen by the Senate and if the Senate would vote him out he would go willingly (allthough he pretty much owned the whole Senate he knew that would never happen)
Palpatine's force cloak, acting and being very political in his moves made him untouchable. besides should the Jedi think Palpatine was the Sith Lord they would be needing proof otherwise the Republic would go against them.

As mentioned, by having himself kidnapped in an oddly concise inside job it became clear to the Jedi that Palpatine was involved in the sith plot, and the circle of possible candidates quickly narrowed. He wouldn’t have exposed himself so blatantly if he didn’t have the rest of the board set for the winning move, which required sacrificing the two main figures in the separatist movement, opportunistically grooming his new apprentice in the process, ending the clone war, and decisively preying upon the remaining side amidst the confusion. He really cut it close at the end, and if Anakin had trusted the Jedi over the sith lord it would have been game over.

Dooku's exact words were that hundreds of senators were under the influence of the Sith. Dooku in no way directly implicated that the chancellor was a Sith. You simply think the Jedi should've jumped to that conclusion with no evidence. Given the Sith's habit of lying and creating discord, the Jedi had no reason to believe him, and you know it.

"Your arrogance blinds you" - Sidious

  • @jmwilliamsart
    @jmwilliamsart ปีที่แล้ว +1

The Jedi’s hubris blinded them to the possibility that the Republic could fall, that they weren’t invincible. They had become too dogmatic, arrogant, and too out of touch with the people of the galaxy. Qui Gon was the last true Jedi until Luke because he let the living force guide him, and not the wishes of corrupt senators the way the other Jedi did. The Sith had evolved, and the Jedi had only trained to fight the last battle.

Years ago me and some friends used to do tabletop rpg Star Wars games, our longest scenario was us as a branch of the rebels. Some former bounty hunters, clones and others were former imperial operatives and one Mandalorian. Our main antagonist was the guardsman. He was only known by that title, a former Jedi knight who left the order a few years before the clone wars and became a republic guard. His reason for leaving the order was because the Jedi’s lack of duty to the galaxy. He was for bringing order to chaos and bring peace however possible.

When the Sith were revealed to have returned during the Invasion of Naboo in 32 BBY, Master Sifo-Dyas secretly commissioned the creation of a clone army, placing an order with the Kaminoan government before he was murdered by his friend, Count Dooku."

After infiltrating the Galactic Republic, they would ensure the fall of Supreme Chancellor Finis Valorum, and that Palpatine was elected in his place, with Hego Damask as Co-chancellor."

The Jedi council was also extremely arrogant, and never considered that the most powerful sith lord would be able to conceal himself without them knowing about it. Palpatine was way too obvious. It's kinda of ironic that the sith plot succeeded by being so blatantly obvious that the arrogance of the jedi thinking they are all knowing was there downfall.

Consider what Kreia says in KotoR 2: The Jedi rely so much on the force, they become dependent on it. Take it away from them and any other individual becomes stronger than them.
They could not sense his darkness, so it was impossible for him to be the sith. To consider they could not sense him, did not even cross their mind.

It would have been folly to feign tipping his hand that far, because then the Jedi would think they had a solid enough lead to start pressing. They would interpret Palpatine as knowing the secret, and wanting to talk. Their perception was that he was being manipulated in a manner he was oblivious to-- meaning they would get nothing but alienation if they tried pressing him.

If you think about it, they could've deduced that in the very beginning of the war. They had so much evidence that they just ignored it's crazy.
Just list the facts the jedi knew at the end of episode 2 and everything will become clear by itself:
    1) 10 years before the war Trade federation attacked Naboo and the Sith was spotted helping them so federation didn't act by themselves it might be something bigger.
    2) There are always two of them so one sith is still alive somewhere.
    3) This event benefited Palpatine and led him to become the Chancellor. Nothing suspicious about him so far but according to Dooku a mysterious Darth Sidious was the one who arranged the attack on the Naboo and is now in control of the Republic because of that. He could be lying but it's worth noting and is enough to start suspecting him.
    4) Also 10 years ago master Sifo Dyas who was a close friend of Dooku secretly ordered an army of clones and went missing.
    5) Shortly after Dooku also left the order
    6) Also someone who could be only a jedi erased the information about Kamino. It could only be Dooku or Sifo Dyas.
    7) But Sifo Dyas was just a regular jedi he could not afford a production of a galactic scale army on his own so someone with lots of money should've been also involved. And Jango Fett also mentioned that he works on someone called Tyranus so Sifo Dyas definately wasn't alone.
    8) We know that somewhere Dooku learned the ways of the dark side and became a sith meaning he is working on the remaining sith lord
    9) During these 10 years the conflict between CIS and the Republic becomes stronger so Palpatine is elected for the 3rd time despite it was against the Republic constitution. It might be a coincidence but he benefited from the conflict again.
    10) And the most important part. Dooku hired Jango Fett (who is also involved in the army production) to kill Padme who was against the creation of the army and tried to ban it. Why would Dooku who is on the Separatist's side help the Republic to get an army?
    11) And another coincidence is that this assassination attempt led Padme to leave her post and thus Palpatine was able to get emergency powers and become even more suspicious.
    12) The war started right when the army was ready and no one questioned it.
    13) They sensed a plot against the jedi and that the dark side is all around Palpatine. For this one i'm not sure when exactly did the jedi sense it for the first time but even if they didn't sense it at all that won't change the outcome.
So what do we have in the end? Dooku definitely knew about the army and it somehow was important for him and his master so he ensured that the army won't be banned. And also without the army the CIS would've easily won so their victory is not profitable for Dooku's master. There's no strategical reason for Dooku to give such an advantage to his enemies so it is not the winning that he wanted but the war itself. And if he knew about the army he might have been involved in it's production so the clones might be dangerous. Considering his words about Darth Sidious controlling the Republic it becomes clear that the whole war was a fake. And now we're searching for a person with great money and power, in the middle of the Republic, who clearly benefits from this conflict and became powerful about 10 years ago possibly because of the attack on the Naboo. The obvious choice is Palpatine or someone close to him. He either is a sith lord himself or just a decoy puppet of the real sith lord. But anyway he's too dangerous to be left in charge because he plays the crucial part in this scheme.
Now just secretly investigate the clone army, discover the inhibitor chips, order to extract or replace them with the new ones just in case they had been altered by the sith and use the strongest jedi including Yoda to arrest Chancellor and his inner circle publically so if he tries to reveal himself he'll lose his reputation. Do they have an authority? Yes, because Mace had the right to arrest him in the name of the Senate, Palpatine simply used the opportunity of no witnesses to make it look like the treason which is not what would happen this time.
Now take everyone's blood sample to see if they are force sensitive and interrogate them (probably even using the force mind scanning like they did on Cad Bane so if the suspect is not force sensitive he won't be able to resist) to see if they can give more evidence or even confess. Even if nobody is a sith lord, they'll reveal the real one since they won't be able to resist the Force so he'll be discovered anyway. Now elect a new Chancellor, most likely it would be Padme since she had a lot of loyalists and try to negotiate with CIS and end the war peacefully. With a pacifist Chancellor, without Palpatine to warm up the conflict, without clones on the sith side anymore and without a plan B, Dooku would be willing to talk since he only wanted to leave the Republic and the whole war plan apparently failed so there's no need to fight anymore. Boom, the war is over in the very beginning.
Jedi were just too arrogant and ignorant to accept their mistakes
