    This might be better if the announcer or writer actually cared or knew about baseball. Who says someone batted "Point-272"? And there's no context for some of these trades, or what happened to the players afterwards. Trading for Randy Johnson is a good example... he was a rental, and the Astros knew it, but that's very common in baseball, and he did help them makes the playoffs, which was the whole point. And the b-roll footage, which often doesn't match the teams being talked about? Lol...

    I got half way through this video and realized that this guy doesn't know about baseball. AJ P on the Giants was a catcher and hit .272 11HR/77RBIs - dude, that's really good for a catcher. He wasn't a bad trade at all, he just was followed by Buster Posey who was a legend. And some of the years you quoted about Red Sox title droughts was off by decades. And the Johan Santana example was not a "trade" as much as it was not knowing what you had. Every single team ever has let go of someone who later on went to be amazing....the Dodgers drafted Pedro Martinez for instance.....sometimes you just don't know at the moment. This video is really bad and clearly made by someone who has a low baseball IQ.

    Bro do you know baseball? The expansion draft isn't the place to "draft your own God team". Abreu was signed AS an amateur free agent BY the Astros, not "by an amateur free agent who worked for the Houston Astros". It's "left field" not "the left field". They were the "Devil Rays", never were the called the "Devils". This video went off the rails when you got to Santana...the worst deal in MLB history???? Huh? Do you not get how the MLB works, teams trade good players for prospects all the time. Theres usually underlying circumstances that cause those deals. Gomez had to be "dropped out of the team"? What does that even mean? Also, you don't "win all stars", you "become an all star". A team's GM is it's GENERAL manager, not "grand manager". Good video idea, wrong person making it.

  • @robertschumann7737

    Not sure why you are knocking the Pierzynski trade so much. He went on to a solid 8 year career with the White Sox. Including a 4 WAR, 120 OPS+, Silver Slugger winning year in 2012. I am pretty sure it was his attitude that got him released from San Fran. I remember reading something about him hitting or kicking a trainer. He was well known as a jerk. Trading 3 prospects who were considered decent (Nathan wasn’t seen as much iirc) for a potential starting catcher for a decade is something any team would do. The Cubs Quintana, Blue Jays Halliday, Marlins Derek Lee and Expos Martinez trades were worse than most on your list. The worst I can think of though was when the Mariners traded from(Phillies) and to (Rangers) Cliff Lee. They fleeced and were fleeced in both deals.

  • @foxies8340
    @foxies8340 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Aj Piersinski, was absolutely not a bust. He was an all star catcher. Hit for decent average for a catcher, had decent pop. But as a catcher more importantly he knew exactly how to handle a pitching staff.

  • @Rockhound6165
    @Rockhound6165 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Some talk about the Expos trading for Mark Langston by sending 3 players including Randy Johnson a bad trade but those people don't remember that at the time Johnson had massive control problems. He didn't become the hall of famer we got to know until he got mentored by Nolan Ryan a couple of years later. Also, some talk about how one sided the trade between the Cardinals and Phillies in 1972 because of how dominant Carlton was that season not to mention becoming a 4x Cy Young winning hall of fame pitcher who was briefly the strike out king but at the time, Rick Wise was a good pitcher and the trade at the time was 1 for 1. Hindsight is definitely 20/20.

    • @dalerockman5286
      @dalerockman5286 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am glad that you gave context to those trades because I wasn't aware of Johnson's control problem and because people have a tendency to base a player's potential on their whole player's career instead of the situation the team was facing at the time.

  • @TheBurn0820
    @TheBurn0820 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    This guy knows nothing about baseball. You don’t say Point 272 for an average you just say 272. Any little leaguer knows this. Also, Randy Johnson was a rental and Johan Santana was entering a walk year and demanded a trade to a contending team that would sign him to an extension. They sent him to the Mets where he promptly signed the biggest pitching contract in MLB history. They had to trade him or he’d have walked in the offseason

  • @TBONE0803
    @TBONE0803 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Context is really needed when it comes to the Babe trade. Just so it's clear..... 100,000 dollars back in 1920 is not $100,000 today. It's about $1.7 million. Baseball players didn't make anyware close to what they make now. There was no VIP seats, gourmet foods and high ticket prices. Baseball wasn't a million dollar business. So 1.7 million was A LOT.

    • @robertschumann7737
      @robertschumann7737 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No it’s not. Would you jump up and down for joy if your team paid $1.7m for Ohtani or Trout? Plus back then there was no free agency. How happy would you be if they bought one of those players for $1.7m for pretty much their entire career? Plus Shoeless Joe was pretty much purchased for $35,000 just 5 years earlier. He was already established as one of the best hitters in the game hitting .409 with a .468 (I think that’s right) OBP in 1911. Before 1920 Ruth had primarily been a pitcher only switching to the OF in 1919. Yes, he led the league in HR’s that year but he only hit 29. I am sure a bunch of sports writers called the trade foolish for the Yankees until Ruth hit those 54 home runs his first year. I wonder how many of those were due to that short right field porch in old Yankee Stadium?

    • @TBONE0803
      @TBONE0803 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@robertschumann7737 well that's my point shoeless joe was purchased for $35,000.... 1.7 million was a crap ton for a ball player back then. You can't compare it to Mike Trout. It's not the same era.

    The Randy Johnson trade actually worked out extremely well for the Astros is 98. Johnson was 10-1 down the stretch that season after going to the astros and was 10-1 with an era under 2. He had 2 great starts in the playoffs but lost both as he received almost 0 run support. This was the last year of Johnsons deal so he was a rental. Johnson only gave up 2 Runs in those starts. MLB had a weird tv schedule back then that gave teams extra off days and the team ran into peak Kevin Brown who got to pitch 3 times in a five game series bc of it. I appreciate trying to speak the baseball language... but have someone who knows baseball review the script.
    lol. Abreu signed by an amateur free agent? No, he was signed "as" an amateur free agent.

    Since Soto has years of control left he should be a Yankee target. Corbin will be fine in NY. Most lefties pitch well there. Half the contract 3-4 of their top pitching prospects plus ONE SS prospect and ONE catching prospect should easily do it.
    Castillo has exactly ONE game of playoff experience plus he has a injury history. His arm will be jello by October as well. Cortes is not a flamethrower. He is an artist. He will be fine for the playoffs. The Yankees will give them plenty of rest by October. Especially if they clinch a 1-2 seed early. Prospects for Castillo is dumb when they have so many young pitching prospects that are ready for MLB. They don’t even need a 3rd starter. They could easily put in an opener and then run Tallion through the lineup twice. I would put him against any lineup twice without worry.
