Why I don't Buy KTM 6 Days Bikes

As you know if you have watched my channel for very long, I don’t buy the KTM 6 Days models. The reason I don’t is because I don’t think the value exchange is there. I’d much rather spend that $1,000 on gas and tires. Here are the main things that you are getting:
    What do you get:
    * Preload adjuster on forks - never use them when I have them
    * Machined Triple clamps- these do look nice, but I can’t feel the difference
    * Handlebar with 6 days logo - pointless IMO
    * Map select switch - the soft map sucks IMO
    * 2 piece rear sprocket- bling only
    * Slightly different brake rotors- no venting in the rear, different vents in front. Can’t tell the diff. Why not just give us guards?
    * Cool looking seat cover - bling only IMO
    * Silencer with 6 days logo - who cares? It’s still not spark arrested!
    * Skid Plate - Finally something that I don’t have to buy myself!
    * Front axle puller - bling, but not needed
    * 6 days logo on wheels - who cares
    * 6 days graphics - so my bike looks different from most others is that worth all this money?

All I got from it, someone who has ridden dirt bikes for 35 years, was that if you do not need the extras associated with purchasing the 6 day edition, then the money could be spent on other mods or consumables better suited to the rider.

My 2018 exc-f came with 6day wheels as well. Which are made by Giant. Larger spokes and thicker polished hubs.Much stronger than the standard D.I.D.s The front rotor is also full floating. I think helps with impacts. A cooling fan, brake snake. Better chain guide and protector. The seat is absolutely perfect. Love it. So many little extras worth well over $1000. Totally content with my purchase

Jason Pearson 156 extra ccs, 0.3:1 extra compression, race tuning, you might win. Give the 300 a port & polish job, a full exhaust, some milling of the head, and tuning, and the score is even. Give it a 330 cc big bore kit and it’s over for the 450. The 450R is a race bike and the 300s are enduros. Tune the 300 for racing and it will make more power than the 450.

@@f.w.vonjunzt3349 500 has mellow "more user friendly" power delivery and feels heavier compared to the 450. The 450 has a wild power band and revs quicker. My dad has an 18 500 excf. This guys totally wrong about the KTM SIX DAYS; all the extra parts on the bike add up to well over a thousand dollars when bought individually. The forged triple clamps are a big improvement, the solid rear brake rotor is much better in muddy conditions and is less likely to warp in extreme conditions, Super Sprox sprockets are much stronger than stock, better wheels and tires, Selle Dalla Valle Italian made seat is incredibly nice, composite skid plate, the bike looks sick, the list goes on and on. I've noticed the six days bikes hold their value better in the pre-owned market as well you didn't even mention that.

I like your common sense approach Kyle. The 6 Days versions that they offer in the US are mostly cosmetic as you point out. In Europe they offer upspec models with factory mods that really help. Your point about money for gas and tires is also absolutely correct. Appropriate tires with Tubliss or mousse will do more to improve your riding performance than any other bike mod. It is easier for some guys to spend the money on bling than spend the time practicing the more difficult skills.

With the billet clamps you get a little better clamping in my opinion. the front wheel won't misalign as much with the billet clamps for crashes and dumps. With the brake rotor its a little better for muddy conditions and will sink heat a bit better. If you went after market including the clamps I'm sure you come in a few hundos less. I run the twin ring stuff and it does wear a little better, but I run the stock chain out and replace with what I want later. I've added the axle pull and the only thing I liked about it was that I could hang it on the bark buster or the peg when swapping tires and it keeps the axle out of the dirt (something six days riders do daily when racing). 15 minutes to maintain your bike daily is all you get. That said I don't have one on my bike currently. IF you really want the billet clamps they cross many years so picking them used or take offs isn't that hard. You will come out ahead. Not enough to make me want to buy it unless it was the only option left for the model year I wanted and they cut me a smokin deal on it. I not fast enough for the six days! I know a few that have competed and all are very fast and skilled.

Vented rotor vs solid rotor. Solid is for wet muddy conditions. Mud can't get stuck in the vents causing the brake pads to not grab as well. Vented is to aid cooling in dry conditions.

The rotors are not "vented" as are the front rotors of a car or truck, they're solid and slotted which does the same thing as a drilled rotor. It's purpose is to keep the braking surface clean by continuously scraping the pad surface and also an escape route for debris that may get between the pad and rotor surfaces. Solid rear rotors on an off-road moto (somewhat trendy on "Enduro" machines) is to theoretically prevent mud from accumulating in the slots, or holes, which doesn't make sense because mud is lighter weight than steel. Figure that one out peeps.

Well, in every other motor vehicle scenario people buy the special editions so why the hell not with these enduro bikes. You do not get any performance improvements with those either.. I have both Six Days versions of the 2018 model.. The 450 and the 300.. Yes its a bling thing, it's the "wow, that's a great looking bike" and the rarity of it.. I bought the 450 in 2017 and I absolutely wanted the twin 300 and bought it in 2018. If you were gonna take those upgraded parts and buy them, it would be more than 1000 bucks.. Do you get a performance increase? No but in my opinion, it's a better stronger bike with triple clamps, brakes and preloaders.. Plus the resale value it higher.. Also, I can guarantee you that in my neck of the woods, I wont see another one.. (Small town) I do see lots of regular 300s and 500s but no 2018 six days.. It's like a special edition guitar my friend, it wont play betteror make you a better player, but the rarity and the look increase the value.

You mentioned that the Husqvarna comes with many 6 days options and checking the MSRP the FE501 is $100 more than the EXC 500. Would you say that the Husqvarna is a better buy than the KTM? It comes down to rider preference from what I can tell but is the KTM with PDS the better option over the Husqvarna linkage setup?

I bought the '20 6 Days 500 mostly because of the way it looks. I've also paid more for premium paint when I've bought vehicles. It's all about preference and finances. I like the "bling" that the 6 Days has and to me it was worth the extra I paid, though it wasn't $1000, I still paid more than if I had bought the regular 500.
It makes me smile every time I look at it, even just sitting in my garage. For me, that makes it worth EVERY penny.

  • @6226superhurricane
    @6226superhurricane 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

it's like you've never even raced an enduro.
billet triple clamps are stronger and lighter
the other map doesn't make the bike run like shit, it reduces power for more traction in slippery conditions so you have more control and can ride faster.
solid rotors don't clag up with mud nothing to do with strength.
steel sprocket lasts longer aluminium is lighter it's the best of both worlds.
axle puller is important when you have 5 minutes to change a tyre.
yes i realize none of this applies to you.
the reason you didn't buy one is because you aren't going to race it that's all.

I know this video is kind of old at this point but if you have the option (and like the 6 days color way for that model year) there is 0 reason not to get the 6 days. Just as an example if you wanted to buy the base model and add on all the stuff you get with the 6 days (Minus the specific stuff like graphics and such) it would cost you more than the 6 days up charge. Its not really meant to be a better performing bike. Its just tricked out with some powerparts bling and a special colorway. If you dont like the look than so be it but I still think the triple clamps, the map switch (now with TC and quickshifter function), and the wheels/hubs alone make it worth it.

The preload adjusters are great if you don't perfectly match the stock setup. It's a thing you do once, but you probably don't repeatedly use it. Nice to have to dial it in initially. Alone, probably not worth the upgrade, but could be a factor if other components are valuable.
