Thank you for this channel (and your audio man channel) and featuring this Seiko model. I build my own Seiko mods and was considering making an all black model like this. Considering your experiences, I'm going the other direction and will be using lumed components. And, yes, I do own an Invicta Pro Diver with an NH35.
I had the same problem with my Orient Bambino. I had the SS case with the dark blue dial and silver hands. It was a gorgeous watch, but I could only see the hands with the light at certain angles, so I was always turning my wrist to get the right angle to see what time it was. I sold it.
Love my basic SRPD55. Great size, goes with everything and it’s nice and accurate for the money . Bought a watch 5 times the price just before it and this has been on my wrist 80% of the time. Planned to put a dual time bezel on her, but I only got as far as snapping the new Seiko 5 GMT “jubilee” on, for the SKX vibe.
I have a Bulova with the same colors - black PVD, black dial, black "lume". I also could never read it indoors. I opened it, gently touched the hour and minute hands with a partially-dry silver marker, and it make the black lume paint a slightly brighter shade of gray. It's much easier to read but still looks right.
Cheers for putting these together - really enjoying your style! However, the first (and only?) thing a watch has to do for you is let you know the time. I now wear glasses. Mainly for looking at my watch...
I have the SRPD79 too. Yes, the readability is compromized. But with a Bond Nato strap, it looks that cool, I have to keep it and love it! Accuracy in my daily use: +/-3 seconds per day. Double cool!
My Seiko Kinetic field watch is pummeled, probably beyond repair. Looking for a field watch replacement. Looking forward to you digging into the VAER A-5.
I'm waiting for Shkit or Emotiva to release a watch with a built in DAC! I subscribed. Perfect timing because I'm just getting into watches myself. This will be helpful.
I've just subscribed to this channel after being a subscriber to CAM for some time. Fed up with my intrusive smart watch which is shedding functions almost every day since I took it in the sea I decided to get back to basics and bought myself a Lorus Lumibrite field watch to start me off. I love that little watch and the lume is the polar opposite of some "dead after dark" watches. It's only got a quartz movement but your comment had me thinking 🤔quartz movement with analogue dial⌚ that's D to A technogy right there on my wrist 😁😆
My out-of-doors watch. Keeps incredibly good time for a $300 automatic, about 15 seconds per 24 hour period. Crown has a really nice, firm feel when hand winding too. Too nice looking, and runs too well for me to return. Lives on a green NATO Ritchie strap.
I already love this channel. Randy, I highly recommend you take a look at Haveston Parade series for nato straps which ship from UK. I never liked natos till I tried theirs. Also you might like the seiko SRPG35. It wears bigger than it is with longer lugs. You seem to have many dive watches so I thought I’d mention a good field watch.
Hi Randy, long time fan of your audio channel, but just discovered your watch channel. I have the blue version (SRPD81K1) still stealthily but readable in low light and it has great lume (Lumibrite). Also has a fun display back. Paid approx $200 for it. suggest doing a review of the Casio Men's MDV106-1AV 200 M WR Black Dive Watch, a true (but good) homage to the Submariner for only $50.00 (Quartz)
I also didn't like the included nato strap. I bought a sand-colored barton. It almost looks like it matches the indicator outlines and bezel markers. Much better. It does have lume!
@@cheapwatchman_official I was convinced for weeks that it didn't have lume. After some exposure to sunlight, it surprised me. It does seem to take a lot/long exposure to daylight before it illuminates....and it is pretty dim. Is your flashlight LED? My led flashlight on my phone will not activate the lume.
Hey Randy. Helpful tip: Buy a UV/black light flashlight. You can shine that on any watch in a room with low or no light and if it has any lume at all it will charge it up and be visible instantly. If that SRPD79 has any lume at all it won't be very bright or last very long because of being mixed with black paint, but the UV light will reveal if it has any. As a rule I avoid blacked out watches and negative display digitals for the same reason you mentioned, they look really cool but are difficult to read at a glance indoors. I have looked at several of those new "5KX" watches at local stores and thought they looked really good, but I just can't bring myself to buy one unless I'd stumble upon one at a very deep discount since I already have an SKX007.
Hey Randy, if it's Not Black, if it's not a Bracelet, if it's not GMT or Dive Watch. I'm not really into it. Unfortunately, those I've liked that fall very close to the parameters they end up being $1200 or higher... Bummer. So, Obi-wan you're my only hope.
After watching again: Wonder why did they not use different blacks to make it more legible? Like piano-gloss black for the hands to pop off a bit against the matte black dial? Or lume the hell outta the outline of the hands? Or even use dark grey hands on the matte black dial? Just something to make it easier to READ. Oh well, provided material for a great video 🤷🏼 Edit: lime/lume
Did you ever check out any microbrand watches? There are alot of good quality watches that probably noone ever heard of.The Boldr Venture Black Dawn is one you might like, about same price as your Seiko5,plus it has some good lume
Yeah, it does. Years ago, BaliHai' had a black PVD/black lume GMT. It was a very good watch, but the lume was poor. BaliHa'i wasn't noted for lume flamethrowers to begin with, certainly not like Helm, Seiko divers, or NTH.
Very true. Not just outspec but better finishing and quality control. Seiko five years ago had a reputation for value. How quickly they have pivoted away from that.
Thanks for giving me things to consider when looking for inexpensive watches to buy.

those look awesome. I just ordered a seiko amzn.to/3Cj4bRr looks pretty cool
I can hear "Dont binge watch" almost slipping out at the end of ever CWM video lol

that would be awesome. 1 watt watch... could power 2 speakers in a pinch

How many takes to say, “I’m the Cheap Watch Man”. How many times have you said Cheap Audio Man inadvertently?
ha. I have to think really hard about it
I am waiting for Randy to just overdub a Cheap Audio Man release with some watch B roll and call it an episode.
@@whollymindless that’s a pretty good idea
I Really enjoyed this! I just subscribed! Keep em coming!
Thank you! Will do!

that's going to be my next rubicon to cross is the field watch segment
@@cheapwatchman_official can’t wait!
You are absolutely right
I will suggest sbsa101 japan limited edition model. It has matte black case and white indices. Very nice looking watch, you should check it out
Yep I won't buy a watch without lume , but it looks cool.
Love your videos. I have a SRPD95 and love it!
Get an SBDC051. They were around $1000 when they came out in 2017 but you can get them on eBay for around $500 now.
Randy , check out the SRPD81 basically same watch with blue hands , markers ,bezel and has GREAT LUME
Brother, I want to buy SRPD79 total black, but is it less luminous compare to SRPD59K1 ?please reply

I'm actually not a fan of the 4o'clock crown thing, but this one doesn't look too bad.
I'm more a srpg35 guy, wish they made a fully black one of those
Life-long Seiko fan here.
I think I'll just stick to you audio gear videos.
Still a huge fan, please carry on!
I don't blame you...
Good Morning Randy!!! This one is definitely on my list. 👍👍👍
there's another one that I think would have been a better choice. I mention it at the end of the video. I think it ends in 65
How was the timekeeping? Prior experience with cheap Automatic Seikos has not been good for me.
I also didn't like the included nato strap. I bought a sand-colored barton. It almost looks like it matches the indicator outlines and bezel markers. Much better. It does have lume!
I swore I saw some once but even with a flashlight I couldn't get it to work again

Great advice, Michael. I'll pick one of those up.. lot easier reviewing watches than speakers.
Wait a year and the price will be much cheaper... I'm waiting on the GMT to go down
@@juniorjohnson5961 I got my eye on that GMT too, that just might be the one that gets me to pull the trigger!

If you liked the SRPD 79 you should get an SRPK 39.
Have the same one and I get the same stealth lime effect.
It's too stealthy for you! 😎
That would wear perfectly on my 8" wrist.

I just got in a phoibos and an island watch and they're both very impressive
Citizen > Seiko ...to me anyway
Lüm-Tec is a great American made brand with great lume to look into.
Try shining a flashlight on it and turning out the lights if it has loom it will be their
I have the plain bezel and it has VERY LITTLE lume. I knew that buying it though.
Black lume paint does exist, but it's notorious for sucking hard, I'd UV it to see if it has any.
Yeah, it does. Years ago, BaliHai' had a black PVD/black lume GMT. It was a very good watch, but the lume was poor. BaliHa'i wasn't noted for lume flamethrowers to begin with, certainly not like Helm, Seiko divers, or NTH.
Return it, no questions asked

I really hate the red Sundays. Drive me nuts. I know that suggests the journey to nuts isn't that far but hey ho.
All watches should be lumed and visible in all situations.
You can't have a good time without a good watch
Don't return it give it to me 😂
How about reviews of rollerblades?
You could become the
cheapskate man! Lol. Jk
Funny
I didn’t know you were doing watches too. Marketing fail. 😂
I just started the channel. I'm very excited about it
Those things are way overpriced. I have a few microbrands which way outspec. it for €300.....
