    I fixed the passenger seat in my 2003 530i in under 15 minutes because of you. I'm grateful. My auto technician son is absolutely impressed with your video. Can't thank you enough young sir!
    Other videos show this as being an hours-long job. Your technique on this is brilliant.

    Good video. One of the better ones to how to fix the twisted seat issue.
    The most efficient method for this is not to heat and cut the cable, but to heat and just push back the grommet. Theres a silicon bushing seal inside the grommet once the driveshaft is removed about 3mm thick, once removed leaving the same a out of space from the top of the grommet to the shàft. Heat and push the grommet more over to where both shàft end and grommet top meet. Leave bushing out. Reinstall. Done.
    Yes, it's actually more simpler leaving the seat in the car. I've done both enough times to get it.
    Flexible extension is a necessary. No more than thirty minutes per chair, top.

    The sheathing doesn't expand. The cable is twisted steel and over the years of use it twists tighter and shortens the length. Also, I don't think anyone will cut through the cable because it takes a die grinder to cut through. There are no hand tools that you'd use to strip the sheathing that will snip through it.

    Also it's very easy to melt too much and not have the metal stay retained well when reinstalled. A better solution I've found is to pull out the cable, cut out the 1/4" sheathing, connect the two peices of sheatheing with a piece of fuel line and two hose clamps, reinstall. I've fixed them this way since the e34 and e32 started having seat twist issues. Just another method.

    Much easier to remove cable cut 1/2 inch off the sheathing reinstall cable and duct tape the 2 halves back together. Insure the 2 halves butt up then tape. No need to heat metal to remove.

    You only fixed one out of 4 motor end cables. But it was one of the longer ones. Is it far to conclude that the shorter ones on the other side of the motor are not as likely to be as bad, due to the cable sheave casing being shorter?

    • @OvalboreCars
      @OvalboreCars  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      the longer the cable, the greater the likelihood of failure. I fixed the only cable that was not functioning correctly to save the customer some cash.

  • @raymundop1
    @raymundop1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I will definitely do this this week. Will this also work on the cables that control the upward, downward movement on the seat cushion? I have one side that is correctly moving upward and the other isnt.

    I am having the issue on my passenger seat. Question - you show that there are two cables when you are doing the left side of the seat is that because the twist was on the left?

    I think I stripped a gear on the rear motor (gear box, where the cable connects to recline the backrest"), I fixed the cable but while I was untwisting it with a drill I heard a Pop from the rear gears. Do they sell them sepparatley?

    • @OvalboreCars
      @OvalboreCars  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      they do, but thats pretty rare. did you make sure to push the center of the cable in (toward the gear box) fairly hard ?
      I have seen the other end strip but again its fairly uncommon

    • @fredgust84
      @fredgust84 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for getting back to me man. yes, it`s pushed all the way back to the gear box. When I recline the backrest both sides move along each other for about 2 inches, then theres a pop an the right side falls behind. If I grab the right side by hand and pull (or push it) it starts moving along the Left side again for another 2 inches.
      I think I over twist it with a drill, I fixed 3 connections and only this one was troubled. How hard it is to remove the gear box for inspection ? Thanks

    • @OvalboreCars
      @OvalboreCars  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      unfortunately your rear seat frame is probably so bent that it stripped out the gear box :(
      Only hail mary would be try to operate the opposite side gearbox while you get a couple of strong friends to twist the seat the other way... maybe then there's enough guts left on the stripped gear box to function in unison..

    • @fredgust84
      @fredgust84 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks buddy. The seat is perfectly aligned right now and I have around a 2-3inch recline movement before the bad side starts to fall behind, so I`ll live with it as I have already restored the height function. If I ever come across a cheap bottom part I`ll purchase it. Thank you so much, your video helped me a lot.
