He was important to the history of Spurs, he was already there 8 years before the victorious era arrived, and he had already been defender of the year, scorer of the year and MVP
David Robinson even served in the United States Navy when he was young. It is truly amazing that after completing his two years of compulsory military service and retiring from the military as a lieutenant in the Navy, he later became a superstar player in the NBA.
The Admiral may have saved the Spurs from relocating or atleast was a factor! I hate seeing the disrespect he gets from a tough outing vs Dream. He had his own redemption story when he finally had real help in the form of Tim Duncan in 98 n finally got his title. A young Tim Duncan coming in, took over but did it with class; allowed the Admiral to mentor him. Youngsters don't always take advantage of such opportunities due to ego or what have you.

Absolute legend. Robinsons neighbourhood. Very underrareted especially offensively. Scoring 71 in the 90s is unbelievable. Getting a quadruple double ! In the days when triple doubles were hard to come by. The way he took a back seat for Duncan is testament to his greatness.
David Robinson - great player and also one of the classiest players anyone has ever seen play basketball. As a basketball fan, I was glad David Robinson retired from the game as a two-time NBA champion.
His physical appearance made him even more intimidating. So so athletic, fast, and such a good man!! I loved the guy, and still have “the admiral” poster at my parents house. So many greats and the new kids of today have no clue. Thanks for the vid!!!👍🏽

David Robinson is one of my top 5 all time favorite NBA basketball players and I must say that my most favorite team he played for was the Dream Team coz 4 of my 5 all time players were on that team! I almost became a spurs fan coz of him. I truly feel that he doesn’t get enough recognition for being one of top 5 all time best centers!
Top 20 for sure. If you put him on a bad team he takes that team to the playoffs in just a year, if you take him off one year, that team fails to make the playoffs. And he did it with minimal help. When he got real help, they won the title multiple times. DPOY, scoring title, regular season MVP, a quadruple double, scored 71 once... yeah, that's Top 20.
I can't believe there's not that much content of David Robinson out there. If you watched basketball back in 90s, you know he was easily one of the best players. He was my favorite player to play with in NBA2K in 1999. With all the great centers in history, it says something he's Shaq's favorite.
I loved Robinson as a kid. It was him Jordan and Bird as my favorite player growing up. I had his jersey and I also mailed him his rookie of the year card and he mailed it back signed to me! I was so happy. The only thing that bothers me about him not being mentioned as much is people want to define him in that playoff series that Hakeem beat him in his MVP year. They had way many more battles over the years than that one.
He was definitely one of the best centers of his era, only behind Olajuwon and Shaq. That's a massive compliment! A lot of great centers in the 90's and early 00's.
David Robinson is one of my most favorite players ever. He was a phenomenal athlete. He's also probably the nicest guy to ever pass through the NBA... a class act.
The Spurs had a winning record against the Rockets. But head to head The Dream always bested him. He was a great player. Growing up in Texas, I got to enjoy both of them.
Rodman was supposed to help on Olajuwon in that series but decided he didn't want to and threw a temper tantrum and essentially sabotaged that playoff run. No center in the NBA could defend Olajuwon in iso for 40 minutes at a time and Robinson and the entire Spurs team got hung out to dry. They probably would have won the whole thing that year if Rodman didn't have one of his episodes. There's a reason the Spurs traded him away to the Bulls for peanuts afterwards.
yeah, thanks to clyde the glide drexler who helped him big time beat the spurs that year ..... i'm pretty sure if the admiral was with the glide instead of sean elliot the result will be different ..... people will say the dream kicked the admiral's ass that year, but they forgot the big contribution from the glide ..... the rockets was even struggling to go the playoffs that year until the arrival of clyde drexler & they started playing great after that .....

I remember watching a college basketball game with my Dad when Robinson used to play for Navy. It was one Alley-Oop after another throughout the entire game!!!
David is worthy of being a top 50 player. Beyond that he played the game the way it was meant to be played. Today there are only a few players in which you can say that. He is a legend in my book.
If you wanted to make a nice guy team you would put Robinson at center, Grant Hill at small forward, Clyde Drexler at shooting guard, Magic at point guard and Dirk at power forward. They would beat you in the game and apologize to you for doing it. 😂
There were four players in NBA history who had the PERFECT body frame/build specific for basketball going back to 1960. They are Michael Jordan, Dennis Rodman, Shaq, and David "The Admiral" Robinson. Their genetics bolstered their careers and it was a huge factor in the game changing level of success each of them had in their era and on the game from their eras and beyond. I'm ready for the 'hate mail' now, lol.
Thank you, Sean :-) again, you highlight guys that didn't 'need' guys around them. They won with what they had had. Unfortunately, that has disappeared in basketball and has weakened what we would call the greats. God bless you 🙂
Shaq couldn't guard him. He was a weaker version of Wilt. He could shoot the ball go coast to coast. He had the stamina unlike centers that were in the game during his time.
@@seltonk5136so what if we switch clyde drexler to the spurs for sean elliott .... don't just say the rockets won that series bcuz of the dream, the glide helped him big time beating the spurs ..... they even struggled that year until they traded for clyde drexler ..... & we know drexler is an all time great compare to sean elliott .....
I'm a huge fan of David Robinson and I think the reason he is overlooked is that playoff matchup against Olajuwon. That a was a hard time to be a center: Olajuwon, Robinson, Shaquille, Ewing. And the second level was Mourning, the limited Sabonis, Divac, Mutombo, Dougherty... Just like today.
As a kid David Robinson was a superhero, he seemed like a black Captain America that was built to play basketball and be a role model. It was impossible not to respect him.
I always liked him, still have his rookie card in my closet that I've been packing around for over 30 years now. Along with all my other 90's NBA cards, his is one of the cool ones for sure.
The Admiral was great for sure, just not at the same level as the Dream. Very similar to Hakeem in many ways, but what the Dream did to him in the 95 WCF was unbelievable. Had I not actually been there to see the destruction of the reigning MVP, I wouldn’t have believed it. It was unreal.
Robinson was my favorite growing up then the dream humiliated in the playoffs. Then Barkley blocked him on a would be game winning shot. Never did view him quit the same after those. Still a great player.
Way to put down the Admiral on a video about him that doesn't even compare him to Hakeem. And funny how people who didn't watch him play always mention the 95 wcf when Robinson had a winning record against Hakeem their entire careers. Referencing the 95 wcf is like saying Big Ben is better than Shaq because of the 04 finals. 😅
@@RejectHumanityReturn2Monke how was he put down? It doesn't matter what there head to head record was before then. Robinson won MVP and Hakeem took it personal and had a point to prove. Which Robinson had no answers for him and looked completely out classed. Is that incorrect? I'm sure you weren't referring to me as not watching the game? Because I definitely watched it and watched it live.
Without question, the best pivot of his era along with Shaq, Hakeem Olajuwon and Pat Ewing. He just so badly needed help to be on top... I am sure he would have won a chip or two if there was Tim Duncan or Tony Parker, then...
if he had tony parker as the pg instead of the midget avery johnson & manu ginobili instead of sean elliot,he probably won @ least 1 ring without duncan .... no disrespect to sean elliott & avery johnson's game, but the combo of manu & tony are in another level, especially manu ginobili in the playoffs ...
The Admiral was my favorite center growing up, and if it weren't for the Greatest Center ever in Hakeem, would have been regarded as the greatest center of the 90's and 2-way center of all-time. Considering David lost 2 years of his prime due to his Naval service and others shortened due to his major back injury, he could have been easily ranked even higher. Still, I believe he's only behind Hakeem, Kareem, Wilt, and Russell among all-time centers (top-3 defensively with Hakeem and Russell), just ahead of Duncan and Shaq for superior versatility on defense, better passing, better shooting touch, and general versatility to thrive in more eras/styles. While Duncan (and Shaq) experienced more team success and longevity than Robinson, Tim had the far better supporting cast for his entire career, superior team management, unparalleled stability in coaching by one of the greatest, limited competition of top rival teams (primarily the Lakers and Suns/Kings/Jailblazers), and complete dearth of top centers for most of his career (Shaq and Duncan being the only top-level centers during the 2000's other than Dwight and Yao). Arguably, David would have been at least as successful had he played in Duncan's years. Not that it factors into the equation, but the Admiral earns more admiration for being the epitome of an already rare-quality athlete who is also really smart and well-rounded person (academically, talented in music and gymnastics) as well as being a model citizen (he opened his own charter school with his own money).
He's definitely top-3 in the 90's. At first it was Hakeem v Robinson on who's the best center. One series in 95 won Hakeem the best center. Post injury Robinson allowed Shaq to get better of Robinson in his last years but not prime Robinson years.
Scoring, rebounding, shot blocking titles, MVP, DPOY, ROY, 2 titles, 71pt game, quadrouble double, dream team, ranked top 10 in 5 categories in a season & a fantastic human being. Never seems to get his props and doesn't care. The GOAT
Robinson was actually 30-12 VS Hakeem in the regular season and they both have basically identical stats career wise but that 1995 WCF really changed the narrative on Robinsons career because tbh regular season he is actually slightly better then Hakeem and Duncan but they both stepped up there game in the playoffs won Finals MVPs we’re as Robinson stats dipped in the postseason

David Robinson is the proto-Giannis
Thank you, Sean :-) again, you highlight guys that didn't 'need' guys around them. They won with what they had had. Unfortunately, that has disappeared in basketball and has weakened what we would call the greats. God bless you 🙂
The Admiral made me a Spur!!
He was so damn fast n quick for a centre
Aesthetically speaking - no one made blocking shots look as effortless as Robinson
Shaq couldn't guard him. He was a weaker version of Wilt. He could shoot the ball go coast to coast. He had the stamina unlike centers that were in the game during his time.
wasn't even the best center in his division. Tormented by olajuwon
I'm dumber for having read that
I'm a huge fan of David Robinson and I think the reason he is overlooked is that playoff matchup against Olajuwon.
That a was a hard time to be a center: Olajuwon, Robinson, Shaquille, Ewing. And the second level was Mourning, the limited Sabonis, Divac, Mutombo, Dougherty... Just like today.
David Robinson is the reason for Tim Duncan. He showed him the way, and allowed Duncan to be great.
Yes definitely just class act legendary player
Dream > O’Neal > Admiral > Ewing
David Robinson was jacked like a super hero
for me, he is one of the best centers of all time, he MUST be in the top 5, I don't see how he can't be...
In my opinion, a great modern day comparison for David Robinson is yanis. They play a very similar game.
To keep it short, David Robinson is Underrated.
Peroid.
Robinson was top 3 to 4 C in the 90s Him Hakeem Ewing & Shaq...he would destroy Joker n Giannis prime
He's definitely top-3 in the 90's. At first it was Hakeem v Robinson on who's the best center. One series in 95 won Hakeem the best center. Post injury Robinson allowed Shaq to get better of Robinson in his last years but not prime Robinson years.
You would still be suspended midair when he teleports and swats you. Man’s insanely quick and athletic. What a force of nature
I still remember Sega's David Robinson Supreme Court video game :)
David Robinson The Admiral
Saw him play while at navy and he was a gazelle, out ran, out jump'd and just out hustled everyone...might be top 20 all time
My all-time player
Thanks to David Robinson, we learned how truly great Hakeem Olajuwan was.
Scoring, rebounding, shot blocking titles, MVP, DPOY, ROY, 2 titles, 71pt game, quadrouble double, dream team, ranked top 10 in 5 categories in a season & a fantastic human being. Never seems to get his props and doesn't care. The GOAT
David won a scoring title and a defensive player of the year and an MVP...Only two guys to ever do that
David Robertson The General
Robinson was actually 30-12 VS Hakeem in the regular season and they both have basically identical stats career wise but that 1995 WCF really changed the narrative on Robinsons career because tbh regular season he is actually slightly better then Hakeem and Duncan but they both stepped up there game in the playoffs won Finals MVPs we’re as Robinson stats dipped in the postseason
A great player both on and off the court.
