    Hey John!! ...nobody teaches this and it's soooo frustrating to me. I know my way around a camera pretty well, but some of these more technical types of tricks and effects are things I still have yet to conquer and really figure out. THANK YOU soooo much for doing this for us!! I would sure give the world for you to also do a couple of videos teaching us how to photograph sparkler exits, light trails with wedding reception dance photos, how to photograph those cigar smoke photos of the guys on wedding day, and how to get that hair spray shot when the bride is getting ready. I'd also love to learn how to do some of those trick photos that so many of you do on wedding days - the reflection, shooting through things, bokeh lights, ring shots with an extra fun flair, etc. A super fun photographer that does a lot of this stuff is Jason Martin with Concept Photography. This guy has some super cool photography tricks and effects and I still have yet to figure out how he does a lot of them.

      I only have the sphere, however the bounce would be MUCH better for outdoors at night. Mainly because it throws the flash directly ahead. However, it would suggest only using it on longer focal lengths (like 85mm and up) I've found outdoors as long as I'm still close enough the sphere still gives me the coverage I need. The settings I use. have to adjust a bit however.

Last question: when you flash bounce in portrait mode, do you always turn your flash head onto the ceiling to keep the bounce flash optimal?

      @@jbivphotography fallowing your advice I played a little with my kids at home using sphere and speedlight on manual mode. I definitely need more practise as I have to keep adjusting flash power depending of lightning conditions and distance from the subject but the results where really good. On TTL I'd often just way overexpose the scene. Thanks John. I'm big fan of yours. You're great technically of course but beside that aspect you've got that "lightness" in your style. Everything you do just seems to be easy peasy to you 😉

      It depends on the ceremony location. If it’s dark enough I’ll use flash.

    What are the main differences between the Lume Cube Mini and Pro? In what situation would you use one...but not the other?

    • @jbivphotography
      @jbivphotography  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Size and the amount of power. Personally I've started using the Pro more often and it's my go to. I'm much more of a fan of that one. But if budget is on the table to mini is really awesome.

    John, have you ever used flash at a ceremony?

    • @jbivphotography

      I have. It really depends on the ceremony area and the situation of the room I'm in. But I do use it if needed.

    I have the V860 iii for Canon with the MagSphere attached. I have it mounted on my R6. I have heard that extra weight can loosen the hotshoe. What are your thoughts on this?

    • @jbivphotography
      @jbivphotography  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I personally haven't seen a problem with this and I've been shooting with my flash on the hot shoe for about 8 years now. The biggest thing is just not to be swinging your camera around too much when the flash is on it.

    Great info but I got a little confused in the middle when you are talking about using the lume light and then you suddenly bring in flash light. Wish I could see a diagram because the explanation ends up being a little convoluted. I got lost anyway!

    If we could only afford one - would you suggest getting an LED light or a flash?
    I have a friends indoor wedding to shoot in summer (I’m totally new to shooting other people), but it’ll start at 5pm (dark around 8:30pm here). Not sure which is better to invest in? Thanks for your help!

    • @jbivphotography
      @jbivphotography  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would suggest getting a flash. Overall it's going to give you the better results and you can use it in more situations. In my opinion LEDs can only be used in a small amount of situations.

    Hey im curious, whats wrong with TTL mode?

    • @jbivphotography
      @jbivphotography  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nothing wrong with it. It’s just like shooting in auto. Which ends up either having too much power, or is never consistent so when you start editing it’s much more of a hassle.

      @jbivphotography copy i figured, going to test your settings and ranges tonight with the godox and magsphere 2 at a white walled low light sweet 15 then edit with natural feels 💪🔥 excited😅 possibly test some over shoulder bounce flash with just a plastic cap and some flash bender techniques. I haven't but I've been meaning to get one. They're best for if you're using a longer lens for something like speeches or something. So if you're using something above 85mm it would be perfect.
