    Great ideas, thanks! I suggest to test all of your supplies when there is no emergency (a fun, safe camp night without electricity), so you know how to use everything - what methods work & don’t work. Also test-walk your backpacks around the block - is it too heavy? A bag that weighs 20% of your body weight is ideal. 👍🏼

    I liked your video!! Great info and ideas. I have a couple of tarps and some paracord to make shelter. Trash bags can be multipurpose and lightweight. A good flashlight and a headlamp can be a lifesaver in the dark.

      Thanks for watching! Glad you found it informative. Good tip on the trash bags. I hadn’t thought of that!

    Great ideas!!! In my emergency bag I have quick drying/zip off pants (so they are shorts or pants). I also check my bag at the beginning of every season so my bag has appropriate seasonal items inside, and nothing goes bad. I also keep a list inside my bag with everything inside and expiration dates on perishable items.

      I love the idea of having an inventory list with expiration dates!

    Hello, enjoyed the video. I would add shelter (something to sleep under, sleep in and sleep on). I would also add a cutting tool. Take care.

      Great tips! Thank you for sharing! We have more in our packs than what I’ve shown for sure, but hoped this would help people get started with something.

    I just found your channel tonight. These are some good ideas. I dont recall if you mentioned a compass, but id put one of those and a paper map in my bag, as well as a life straw for when the bottled water run out. I have to make 4.5 hr trips every few months so if i got stuck it might be a while before help arrived

    • @homelifewithlauren
      @homelifewithlauren  ปีที่แล้ว

      I do have a compass in there, but not a map. Good idea! And we probably need to get another life straw. I think only one person in my family of 5 has one in their pack. 👍🏼

    Great content!! I work in emergency management and we've been telling people to put most of these same things into what we call a Thunder Bucket for bad weather. We also recommend a weather radio and leather gloves to help with clean up. Keep up the good work!

      Thank you! You just never know what unexpected surprises life is going to bring. It’s better to be prepared and have those few comforts when and if the time does come that they’re needed.
      And great tips for other items to pack in your bag!

    One thing i have heard for years is if you pack it learn how to use it.
    I have a little stove that uses sterno but i believe can use sticks for fuel I will have to look that up. I did use it back in 2022, it is now 2024, and it worked great. Also someone else put a bowl in their pack along with eating utensils and a big spoon becaise they had more food and for a large family

    Get a sawyer mini water filter it can attach to most water bottles like you currently have(Smartwater Bottles seem to stand up to repeated use better than most) and when you come across water you can fill bottles back up and drink through the filter.

      @homelifewithlauren  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve heard of those. Sounds like a very handy thing to have in the pack. Thanks for the idea!

    Your video was great! What a horrible comment from that person. If you want some survival video in the woods, go elsewhere. This is more likely what the average person would need. Very practical, well done

    • @homelifewithlauren
      @homelifewithlauren  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you, that's kind of you to say. Of course, there are plenty of other things you could put in here, but yes-my goal is to cater to the average person that perhaps hasn't thought about having a pack like this before. Something is better than nothing.

    You might want to 'road test' your kit to find out what works and what does not..... take a weekend camping trip and use only what is in your kit for a day or so. This could be an eye opening experience !

    We are differently interested in creating an emergency kit. We live in New Jersey , and we get all types of weather here. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    • @homelifewithlauren
      @homelifewithlauren  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, in New Jersey you would probably want some warmer items like gloves, a hat, extra socks and definately a poncho to keep you dry from the rain.

    I didn't see you mention a flashlight and batteries (store batteries separately in case they leak). Be sure to get an LED flashlight, even a cheap LED flashlight will be brighter and last longer than an old incandescent style flashlight.
    I'd also recommend an emergency crank radio/flashlight (although the flashlight is usually poor). Even a pocket radio (with batteries stored separately) should last at least 72 hours.
    Also carry $50 or more in small bills (ones and fives) and change in case you need to buy something. Credit machines will probably not be working.
    In my experience cheap pocket knives are crap. Either get a decent, inexpensive knife (folding or not) or multitool. The cheapest, commonly available Mora knife from Amazon is a thousand times better a dollar store pocket knife.

    Buy your bag LAST, so you can fit the stuff in your bag. Check your emergency supplies when you replace the batteries in your smoke detectors, when the time changes.

  • @NothingToNoOneInParticular
    @NothingToNoOneInParticular 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Buy your back pack LAST. Gather the stuff then see how big you need a backpack. Remember to leave room to carry essentials you gather along the way...

      @homelifewithlauren  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great idea! And I would add, make sure your pack is reasonable for you to carry or transport for you.

    You will be better packing 550 paracord instead of rope will take up less room and will be stronger and have more uses also a good idea to include in your first aid kit is burns gel especially if you have children hope that helps

      Not a problem can save you having to pack the face cloth too. They are now doing face cloths in a tube 10-15 I think compressed into small tablet like form that expand when they come into contact with water I find the idea of this both space saving and very very hygienic and not having to wash the cloth after use. There are several little hacks you can use what I will do is when the thought hits me I’ll write it down then when I have a few I’ll get back to you……….just a quick question do you conceal carry at all

    What happened to the basic of survival. Have you heard of the 10c s of survival. You did not even cover any of them. Bad information will get people killed. Please do some research and testing before making a video. I challenge you to go camping with just your bag see what happens. It would be a great way to test yourself and your gear.
