The Truth Behind the World’s BEST Rugby Team with Sir Steve Hansen
Sir Steve Hansen is the former Head Coach of The All Blacks. He was Head Coach from 2012-2019, and won the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
Steve is arguably one of the best Head Coaches that New Zealand has ever seen. The successes during Steve’s 8 years in the role are too numerous to list, but among them are:
8 x Bledisloe Cup wins
6 x Rugby Championship wins
The 2015 Rugby World Cup
Hansen was appointed a Companion of the New Zealand Order or Merit in the 2012 Queen’s Birthday Honours.
This interview was recorded in front of an audience at my most recent HPL event in Christchurch. Every year I host my High Performance Leadership event. He was incredibly open and shared so much wisdom from his time as Head Coach of the All Blacks. Did you have a favourite takeaway?
We didn't have rules but we had non-negotiable expectations. The difference being?
Great question. From my perspective I feel that rules are top down. But expectations are collective - almost shared and created across the entire team culture. What are your thoughts?
Hansen may or may not be greatness personified but I suspect Pieter de Villiers could win WC with McCaw and Carter, the second and third best players ever.

Ian Foster has been a dismal failure as head coach of the AB's, but it's unlikely he'd learn anything useful from this video - even the channel owner doesn't seem to be able to come up with a reason for him to watch it... 🤣

essentially Hansen is a "Horse Trainer" has that ability to "listen to horses along human individuals ...." and best we leave it there, many others want to take , and pay monies ,..hmmm, however , Hansen , met his , and , suffered defeat , quietly after the last Rugby World Cup....and he sufferred that aspect and on the phone to his wife (on the side line at that time)
That's a unique opinion.

How to undo and unravel a champion All Blacks team by becoming lazy, stagnant, resting on their laurels and failing to innovate leading into the RWC 2019.
I always believe in constructive criticism. However it's only worth listening to someone who has successfully constructed what they are criticising. When you take a team to winning a World Cup, I'll happily entertain a discussion with you.
For now, keep on being your best self.
Nothing but respect for steve, legend of a coach and a top human being . Would love to spend time with him I would walk away a better man , and leader. Thanks for all you did as coach

Hansen lacks credibility - he backed Foster again and again, despite Foster's continued failures - sorry, mate, as far as I'm concerned you don't practice what you preach.

Hansen won a world cup so has plenty of credibility. Also admits his failures too....particularly the stuff around his family. But he'd never throw anyone under the bus. He's be my boss anytime.
Echoes the same sentiments as Shane McLeod (NZ coach who coaches Belgium Hockey team ). did in a similar talk. When u become focused on the outcome, you lose focus on your players and process. @james Laughlin - he’s worth listening to on leadership and building winning teams
