Newer corvettes are very fast. But so are newer Ferraris. The Ferrrari being raced is no challenge for many other cars. But it is more fun to outrun a $100,000 ferrari with a $25,000 corvette.
Bigbooster126 i have never seen a c6 for that much. Lowest i seen was for about 19k with like 200k miles on it and with drive problems. A nice 07 would be more like 35k up. In trying to look for a nice 08+ for around that. If you know where NICE c6 ate then tell me your zip code so i can search there. In serous actually
i used to see lots of pre engine upgrade 05 and 06 vettes for under 15k on cargurus. that was the "all time low" as it was when all of the vette owners sold them quickly to get the new c7.

The Ferrari 360 was the contemporary of the C5 Z06, though which one was faster depends on which model F360. Looking at lap times in Europe between the C5 Z06 and 360 Modena the C5 Z06 seems to win easily. Though the 360 CS can easily beat the C5 Z06 Corvette, so it is kind of a wash... however when you consider the huge price difference between the two cars. The fact that I can buy a C5 Z06 for around $20,000 on the used market while a 360 would probably set me back near $100,000.

I'm a Vette owner. The toughest race I've ever had was a Ferrari but until I had to turn off I was winning. He shot out of the gate but similar to this video I walked him down. I love both but American muscle just owns a special place in my heart and soul.

I don't know about the Viper, but the Corvette's tires were completely street legal performance tires. Optional does not mean not stock. The Michelin Pilot Sport Cup is a high performance street tire that doesn't last very long. Standard on the GT2 and GT3 Porsches, and about the same as the Pirellis on many Ferraris, Lambos, etc.

I've not driven the c5 z51 but have driven every version of c6 except the ZR1 (when one comes in, ill drive that too) and they are pure animals. The ZO6 will strike the fear of god in you! They are still livable daily drivers though. Great job on the Silverado... all-around great truck! (I couldn't have traded a vette for it though, unless for practicality reasons)

Ferrari is known to cheat, and I trust none of their performance figures. Read Chris Harris' article on it. Auto journalists are only allowed to test Ferrari's cars, not owners' cars, if they want that privilege from Ferrari, who sends a team and two cars for tuning and modifying during testing. One car for straight line, and one car optimized for a given track. These test cars don't even sound like the production vehicles that people own.

What I meant by "better-built" is in the overall quality of construction. For example, Corvettes have had a long-standing problem with poor panel fit and noise from the bodywork. That may be different in the latest models now that they're no longer fiberglass. Of course any sports car will tend to be less reliable than a regular sedan; that goes with the territory. But even the Corvette enthusiast books have noted the panel fit problem--don't get me wrong, I like Vettes, too.
American vs. Italian kinda, it would have been better on a race track, or alot less traffic, where the ferrari handling is great in corners, the corvette slides out. this is a great video Love corvettes i want to collect one of each year made. I drove a 360 Modena like that one, not fast but very nice.
Optimized tires? They were R compound street/track tires that were completely road legal 430 Scuderia, Evora S, SuperLeggera, Viper GTS, Aventador, R8 GT, V12 Vantage, KZ A10, MC Stradale, M3 GTS, Boss 302, FQ-400, GT3 RS, etc. All of those cars and more used R compound tires. The Corvette that did 7:19 was actually heavier than a factory car because there were cameras and safety equipment in it.
