    Really enjoyed this video...basic troubleshooting, voltage readings, and changing out some time-worn components and she is singing again. Customer has a really nice receiver for the golden era; thanks for your time on this one!

    Great video of the logical steps involved in fault finding a Pioneer Reciever. I too have a background in Electronic repairs and love to work on the 70s and 80s Stereos. Just picked up a Pioneer SX880 for $30 Australian. I would nomally flip it but I think this one may be a keeper.

    Joe, thank you for sharing your knowledge. I'm retiring soon and have quite few receivers to restore. This helps a lot.

    Great video.Really in depth and thorogh.Love the detail and explanations.I have an old Harman Kardon 730 twin that has no sound on the right channel and noticeable hum and distortion on phono input 2.I am slowly buiding the confidence to tackle the repair job.Kind of have no choice because there is no one around where I live that repairs vintage equipment and it really is a great well built receiver.Thanks a bunch!

    I use to sell pioneer stereo equipment I had a sx737 personally, I loved it, it was hit by lightning and was fried about 20 years ago. Would love to find another one, I have a onkyo now and the pioneer blows it away. You can’t beat the older pioneer stereo equipment, the newer models are lesser quality and have no eye appeal. Great video, I enjoyed it.

    Wonderful video. Great tips and tricks. You've given me a lot more confidence to tackle receiver repair and restoring. The fact that most if not all testing can be done with a VoltMeter helps. I was thinking I was going to need scopes and a whole gambit of testing equipment. First project will be my SX-770 with distorted right channel.

      Oh nice for your first tackle...I just did a sx770 and it's back on the bench...right channel is out....we'll see what I found and hopefully repair it.

    Really enjoyed the vid my guy - I’m just getting into the hobby and starting to work on these and looking to learn. You showcased a lot of great troubleshooting steps with easy to see camera angles. You have a new sub from me and I’ll be looking into more and more of your content.
    Thanks for doing such a great job 👍🏼

    Hi when you use carbon and when metal resistors?

  • @g.fortin3228

    Thank you for the insights ! To make one of those discharge tool, a metal rod and 150 ohm resistor ? Is this a 1/2 watt or 1 watt rated resistor ?? I need to do this (make a rod /lead like that ) before i begin working on mine !

    • @VintageAudioFever
      @VintageAudioFever  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mine was a 1/2 watt

      ½ watt is too low. Should be at least 3

    What are the wattage on those 150 resistors please?.

    • @VintageAudioFever
      @VintageAudioFever  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dave....are you taking about the 150ohm resistor that I have on the rod to dissipate or discharged the capacitors? If so that resistor was a 150ohm at 1/2 a watt...

      @@VintageAudioFever Hey VintageAudioFever. No I am talking about the resistor that you take out the receiver.

      Hi Dave, the resistor R23-24-25-26 were indeed 150ohms 1/2w

    Hi, do you know the volume of the resistor on the power amp board at pin six?.

    • @VintageAudioFever
      @VintageAudioFever  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi...what is the number of that resistor your looking for? On the PA board...Pin 6 resistor R7 is 51k and resistor R11 is 1.8k

      @davewilliams5932 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VintageAudioFever I am looking for the one at pin 6, just after the capacitor. They are 2 resistors there one after the other.

    How should I check for discoloration on my pioneer six-737 without a scope?.

    • @VintageAudioFever
      @VintageAudioFever  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well ....you can always check with the naked eyes...very closely and check out for cracks and cold solder...I find magnifying glass works great also...
