Listen, as funny as it is for when the villagers sit down in the spot you're trying to terraform, or when you see villagers who ask you to sit with them getting up, as funny as that may be, it has slowly but surely been making me start seeing a lot of the flaws the game has with it's villagers. Like, they programed them to basically be braindead, saying the same things, acting like animals and not like your friends in the previous. That's one of my gripes with the game as of now and I hope Nintendo fixes these issues in a later patch because it was funny the first few times, but now it's just more annoying (like season 6 and 7 of spongebob where everyone was also over the top dumb).
Oh most certainly they will add something, they said three years worth of support, there has to be an update for villager interactions somewhere in that time. Perhaps maybe 2 - 4 new villager species and then add a buttload of more interactions, maybe even add a re-invitation feature to invite past villagers you’ve had to come back (this won’t work if you send your villager with another player) that way if you want to find a new species you can (with a new feature they could add) ask your villagers if they would like to move MANUALLY and search for them.

If they ever sit down in a spot you need to get to, you can sprint into them and they'll get up! Then you can push them away
