This was one of Iggy's many collaborations with David Bowie. By the way - Iggy was originally asked to be the drummer for the MC5, but decided he'd rather front his own band. I'd recommend Iggy's song, 'Lust for Life'. Or, 'I Wanna Be Your Dog'.

Siouxsie and The Banshees do a cover this that I actually prefer. I'm an Iggy fan from way back, but when Siouxsie did it, I don't know, it just felt better. Same with Dear Prudence, I prefer Siouxsie's take on it. They stay very true to the originals, but own it.

There’s way more to Iggy Pop than what you can glean from a single listen. He and David Bowie were longtime friends and collaborators in both music and sobriety. And he’s still making music. In fact, one of my favorite songs of his is the 2016 song “Gardenia” that he recorded with Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age. Perhaps a good direction to head into from here would be the David Bowie song “China Girl,” written by Iggy Pop and with Stevie Ray Vaughan on guitar. Iggy Pop released his own version of “China Girl,” as well, but the Bowie version is the standard.

Candy is THE greatest duet in history. And coming from an old school country fan like me, that really means something cause if you beat out the old Conway Twitty/Loretta Lynn records, you've made quite an accomplishment. Iggy's voice sends chills up your spine in the first verse, then Kate does the same in verse 2. But when they hit that 2nd chorus together, o man it can take your breath away and bring tears to your eyes. Their voices are so perfect together.

"The Passenger" was a single from Iggy's "Lust for Life" album which relaunched his career following the demise of the Stooges and the birth of Punk. Bowie produced the album and plays on the track. The concept is taken from the brilliant art-film of the same name from acclaimed director Michaelangelo Antonioni. Punk, like other modern art, was about honest and powerful expression and the song aligns with the films vibe. Hit "Lust for Life" next followed by "Nightclubbing," "Funtime," and "Real Wild One." You've got to do more Stooges. "Search & Destroy," "TV Eye," "1969."

Yep. Bowie co-produced *Lust for Life* with Iggy and engineer Colin Thurston (they dubbed themselves "the Bewlay Brothers," after a Bowie song on his *Hunky Dory* album), and Bowie plays piano and sings backing vocals on "The Passenger".

Hey guys. I wouldn't have suggested Passenger as the first Iggy song to listen to actually. I would have started with some Iggy and the Stooges. Something from the album Raw Power from 1973 perhaps. SEARCH AND DESTROY would be an excellent next song to react to.

Iggy is best experienced live. He puts on a show you won’t forget. I saw Iggy and the Stooges at the St Clair Shores Civic Arena (outside of Detroit) back in 1974 or 75. (Also on the bill that night was the Bob Seger System). What a show. Iggy does crazy things on stage like putting an ice cube down his pants and then fishing it out and giving it to a female fan who then put it her mouth. He was one of the first to dive into the crowd. At a show in 1968 at a venue called Mother’s in Romeo, Michigan he was arrested for exposing himself onstage. The charges were reduced to disorderly conducts and he was fined $41. The music is great but the show is amazing.

At the risk of making the most obvious recommendations, I'd say that "Lust for Life" and "Wild One" are the most obvious places to start with Iggy. Both are bangers, among his best known, most played work. I also love "Candy," for Iggy's voice, and that of Kate Pierson (of the B-52s). It was a radio hit, or at least an MTV staple.

You know this is the lead singer of THE STOOGES right ?? check out some picturesnof iggy pop live performance and it may shock you. They aren't this huge jazzy band they are like early punk, and the times were different so it hits different and occupied a different space in music than now if that makes sense. This is a good representation but not the only one. With time you'll understand the context more. Its a overarching theme more than focus on one specific song, not that they are "concept albums" but just attacked and built a certain way with a certain intent of expression. You need to SEE Iggy perform a little and maybe youll get it a bit more.

I remember watching footage years ago of Iggy in the UK in 1977 at the Manchester Free Trade Hall. A couple of Roadies carried him onstage, propped him up at the microphone stand, they gave him a shake to wake him up and he looked really confused, they pointed at the audience and then he cottoned on to where he was and why he was there. He then launched into The Passenger, brilliant. The Band he used David Bowie later teamed up with for his Tin Machine project.
