I really love the energy you guys tap into on this pod. Hearing kini going off when he says people who are selfish should be copper was magnificent! You guys really get into this, and I could imagine if you didn’t cut off the discussion for a reasonable video length, you could probably go on for 6+ hours and still pull new points to the table. Excites me for the potential longevity this pod could have.
Just a small suggestion: It would be really nice of you lefd a community post if you delay the episode by a week. I think communication is key to keep us interested and don't lose our patience. Keep up the really good work guys!
My friends all quit Siege after playing from year 1 to 4. Now they rarely play, and if they do it's for a couple of games. One of the biggest reasons was because they didn't like how Ubisoft slowed the game down. They liked the fast twitchy movement with drop shotting, quick leaning and quick scoping. They all love Call of Duty so that explains it. I always believed that if Ubisoft did another shooter with old Siege movement it would be a huge hit, because it was really fun. Just not fit for what Siege is. On the topic about map and operator bans I just wanted to say I always wished Ubisoft would add them to ranked. After a few seasons I believe it is not good at all for the game. I just saw it in proleague and thought if it's good for them it should be good for us. The reality is players in ranked want to win, so they want to play in a map they are familiar with. They can't risk losing because they don't know the map. The operator bans are just comfort bans where they ban an operator that annoy them. I wish Ubisoft would remove them. And just add a system to choose a map that non of the players played recently like Overwatch. As for a topic for the next episode I wish you guys would discuss how Ubisoft can make a Siege match more engaging for the players dead or alive. I think the biggest reason Siege isn't and most likely will never be as big as CSGO/Valorant/COD/etc.... is it has a lot of downtime during the match. Siege is a very slow game. A single round of siege is like 2.5 rounds in Valorant. In Siege if you die early you could wait 2 minutes before playing again. People get bored very quickly now. They need to always be doing something. I know people who as soon as they die go watch TikTok until a new round begins. Ubisoft tried to do something by allowing dead players to drone, but that was immediately shut down by almost everyone because it could ruin the atk/def balance, and also be very annoying for defenders. So my question is can anything even be done about it? Sorry for the wall of text, and thank you for the show.
I do think ranked 2.0 has hurt the meta bc it incentives us to grind ranked and by doing so we have become lazier and care less about individual ranked matches bc we don’t lose much elo when we lose so no big deal just go win the next one etc so it’s encouraged many to just play lazy aggro style to farm dopamine rather then actually work to get better at the game itself! So many times I’ve had to argue with people about making correct decisions and learn from their errors but they do not care to get better bc the 1/5 rounds it works is confirmation bias that their brain dead style is viable. I do think coordinated play completely shits on the tdm meta andys but so few people are willing to not be lazy and play coordinated.
The problem of the TDM meta is do to the great part in how they've been desensitizing traps and intel gathering of being the main focus and really look into weapons i.e. extended barrel rework and intentionally had given 1.5 to operators who don't have to play off their equipment. What was the last time you see a mozzie use his drones and on console you have to deal with people using xims. Ubi had broken their own rules when it came to balance changes (when they gave 1.5 to two speeds).
My opinion on mozzie is more i dont have time to use the drones safely mid round most often. I always just shoot all drones i find in prep phase and then deploy the pest. That way i maybe destroy 4 drones during prep and get a chance to steal 3 during live round. But then it can be hard to move the drones at all before they either get shoot or i cant because im under pressure.
Great episode guys, but I noticed that Gregor had a habit of cutting Kini off a lot. I know he didnt mean to and probably would have stopped if he knew he was doing it so I hope yall can work on that a little for next time. :)
Discussion topics for next time. Discuss whether or not they should change angled grip. Beaulo made a comment recently on the angled grip being useless and I want to know your opinions/ potential rework like we got with extended barrel. Maybe decrease horizontal recoil? I’d also like to hear about Zero because he has what appears to be one of the best load outs in R6. He had the best AR, gonne 6, and secondary breaches, but he has been statistically one of the worst operators in all of R6. It would also be nice to talk about the laser sight because I never see it. It’d be nice to hear discussion on it because it hasn’t been. Changed for years.
19:18Something I've heard from a DCS Mod a few weeks back, which I think applies to R6 over the years as well: "If you give them the chance, your players will optimise the fun out of the game, and then complain about it." Siege, since its beginning, effectively has only had one gamemode with three different flavours, and most people only play one of them. With that amount of focus, the only thing to keep it interesting is balancing changes. But since everybody is so set into their tracks, after all this time even balancing isn't able to mix things up to a point where its a significant difference like switching from CTF to Push or Domination. Siege is built to only reallly allow a certain type of play, and the only way to get a breath of fresh air is to get a fresh start -> smurfing.
31:02 not only that but on console you have to pay to play the game as well, 15$ a month, 35$ or 40$ for half a year, and 60$ for a full year, and even more for xbox gamepass, which just adds to the barrier for entry.
I've played siege off and on over the years, i love the game. I just can't keep interest, partially due to life and also due to the community. When i first started playing if you messed up and a player had advice on how to improve they would give you that advice and try to empower you. These days any time i jump back in after being away for months instead of actual advice people go off on you like you're supposed to be a pro lol
I don't know if either of you are familiar with Squad, but it is going through a very similar situation. The devs have suddenly decided to pull a 180 on the gunplay from a world of crisp 1-taps to one of sway, suppression, blurry crosshairs, etc. As the devs put it, they want to turn the game back towards their vision. On the other hand, the game has developed a playerbase over years who play the game for the gunplay as it currently stands. It is a complicated situation.
I enjoy varsity’s content, but it’s weird hearing him trying to comment on the ranked system. He does do series where he plays serious, like solo to diamond, where he does play strategic. On the other hand, he plays with people like Evan, who tends to mostly just do dumb strats and rush/ run out all the time. Almost seems like he’s in 2 rooms at once. The ranked system is very fair, and you just need to be willing to practice and get better. Varsity was known for that, but now he seems to transition more into just playing the fun way, almost that he seems bored trying to grind the game at a high level. TBF he’s done a solo q grind series like 10+ times so I don’t blame him. Edit: after looking at a few vids, Evan is actually pretty good at the game when he does play ranked. He still mostly uploads more “casual” types of gameplay.
ranked 2.0 isn't perfect. its biggest problem is actually a vestige of the ranked 1.0 system, lobby selection. As an emerald, I will never understand how the game thinks I belong in Plat lobbies, only to then throw me into a champ lobby where I am severely outclassed the literal next game. (no joke) Ranked 2.0 in theory solves so many of the ranked 1.0 headaches, it's just all about how the game handles your hidden MMR. So to see Varsity (a favorite youtuber of mine) just constantly complain about it, is a bit frustrating. It's all confirmation bias. he hit champ once so now he thinks everyone can get plat by "just playing enough" when... that's very untrue. The game WILL stick you where it thinks you belong, and he knows this. Because he's on twitter crying about it 😂
If you want someone thing to talk about… (first 30 secs of the episode about not making a vid in a couple weeks cause of lack of content) maybe talk about removing/revamping the 1.5 I think this scope is the reason for this tdm meta where in…
It is kinda frustrating that stuff like emerald and labs get insta banned every time. I've recently gotten back into the game after a long break and I've been solo queueing in unranked/ranked, and I havent't played a single game on those new maps yet. I checked them out in custom games so that I can have an idea what the layout is, but I haven't had an actual game on them yet.
People whining about using utility/drones in both ranked and unranked dont seem to know that there is an entirely separate gamemode for running and gunning called arcade playlist, TDM ! If you only want to shoot people, go there! I play siege to play it like siege! Dont care if it's casual or the invitational, I WANT TO PLAY SIEGE! 😂
overall, my highest rank ever in siege is Gold 1. Now i play with friends who are diamonds and such. I am by far in a way the worst in terms of gun skill, but my understand of maps and game knowledge was always decent. And truth be told TDA style play in siege for me neve felt right.
The problem is that a lot of people just aren't into games for what they are. It's relatively cheap and easy to get into games. There's so many people who don't play Siege for Siege. I miss the old days where people tried to strategize and use tactics. Ubisoft keeps slowing down the gunplay (which I like), but people still try to play like it's TDM. It's pretty difficult to nerf playing like an idiot, so slower, smarter plays needs to be buffed somehow. Gadget buffs? Longer round timers like the old days? Bring back firing modes where full auto has lots of recoil, but burst and single firing is manageable? Just throwing (bad) ideas out there.
Not sure which episode you touch on about B4B but I'll assume it's this one. I loved B4B but getting teamplay and coordination was painful even more than siege and unfortunately all the people who enjoy playing siege when i suggest playing it they go oh it's that failed L4D clone. that negative perception though would hang over the entire game and really make it hard to get others interested in it. Hell siege itself sometimes suffers a similar issue simply because the community that surrounds the game keeps emphasizing the worst aspects that may or may not exist. if we were to listen to the opinions of those who are the most vocal. Then every map rework has made the game worse, attacker repick has ruined defense and made the game hopelessly attacker favored, and tachanka has been the second coming of launch ela/lion. It adds unnesscary hurdles to getting and learning the game than need to be and it's really vexing. I appreciate both greg and kini for being able to provide opinions with nuance that many other people seem averse to.
for me its not about the game being fast or slow as someone who hates the "tdm meta" (which i think is a silly thing to call it bc the "meta" at the highest level isnt tdm if you look at pro play) i wouldnt care if the game was fast paced i care that people are putting in effort or care, if you drone for info and then swing once use a utility take out a camera swing another angle with a teamate do a rush plant use a gasget shoot a mute jammer and swing for another kill all in 30seconds idc that is happened fast i care that it was done with thought, with effort, that I cared about strategy and shooting defaults and planting the bomb, that play may be just as fast but im not just running around on straight on to site ignoring cameras and callouts not planting the bomb and taking every hard swing possible while my prep drone is still afk and then I call a teamate f****t because they didnt blindly rush with me and was making callouts on cams. the number of games people attack me simply for giving callouts when they could just mute me is simply unacceptable.
What do you think about being able to report usernames? (regardless of nickname/username) Sure it's just a game and "having fun"...but I had someone who called themselves "r*pist* or people having homophobic, racist names I think that's just too far and I don't wanna see your cringe They could do the same with profile pictures and finally give us complete customisation back (I think rn you can only choose ubisoft approved pictures)

There was a time when Ubi only gave the ACOG to 1-speed defenders. Seems like a similar principle should apply to the 1.5 now
Just a small suggestion: It would be really nice of you lefd a community post if you delay the episode by a week. I think communication is key to keep us interested and don't lose our patience. Keep up the really good work guys!
Let's go more Kini and gregor
Greg - "Are you asking rank players to think?" , the most accurated comentary about the average siege player.
My friends all quit Siege after playing from year 1 to 4. Now they rarely play, and if they do it's for a couple of games. We should also remember that a disproportionately massive part of the Twitter user base just goes there to hate for no good reason
I love this podcast, thanks for podcasting

Good take honestly. If anything, the "TDM meta" has showed me how exploitable most of myself and my stack's defenses and strats are.

Early morning podcast for work, sign me up
Always nice to see one of these drop.
First, great show!
Nice another one! Do you guys think about inviting other content creators to the podcast one day? 😃
Maybe a chat about the hype about arcade mode, and no body plays it now, any reason?
I have been trying to get my randoms to ban Iana and other dragged ops like warden, mozzie and thorn, and I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one.

Love to see EP3 of the P3 :)
I love the disagreement and discourse here. So many posdacts like this are people agreeing with each on everything which is boring.
what a good way to start my morning ☕

4:25 As much as it isn't a competitive environement (unless it's locally hosted), Team Fortress 2 is the counter argument what Gregor says
a good podcast episode would be to do an operator rework thinktank

Probaly an overdone subject but; giving your ideas to balance some ops who need it and have a discussion about it
when people were saying it was too easy to get champion and "anybody" could get champ i think they were just bsing cause their ego got hurt.
The TDM meta wont end on console until MnK or Macros are resolved sadly

The reddit is also pretty shit. Just stay off social media and play the game.
If you guys are struggling with concepts to do Siege content, why don't you guys dive into Operator and Game Lore?
