There are so many things worse than death. One of them is watching what changes these people go through and their struggle to retain some sense of normalcy & control. Going through this with my 83 year old sister. It looks like her, sounds like her, but with huge holes in capacity & reasoning- and unlimited frustration. I see her headed for long term care but continually hesitate to pull the trigger. I had a closed TBI in my 20's and a long recovery. I could see & understand the looks on people's faces and their frustration with my inability to perform up to standard. I know what it's like to "be in there" but unseen as a person. It's a fine balance between choosing safety & dignity of being over independence. God bless you on your journey. You can't fix it, and it's okay. Love what you can & find a way to soothe yourself. Big hugs to you. Hoping that peace fills your heart at every opportunity. Even though he struggles, each moment is a gift.
My Father is in stage 5 and now has hospice. I'm scared, sad, and feeling anything but normal. Not to mention absolutely exhausted...
