@@the_mad_swimbaiter455 Good luck! I think including the ground pole, especially a GRP pole, is a great idea. With buried radials it's not going to take up much space in the garden at all.

Smart idea to implement the ground pole. I did that with PCV pipe with my DX Commander Classic and my Signature.

You will sell the 💩 out of those!! I like that your always improving your product, that's something few businesses do! Little things like supplying the post to bury in the ground really helps sales especially here in the states...They have the common folk here working 60+ hours a week and by supplying everything you need to get the antenna up is very important, it saves a person, maybe up to 2 hours of time because they won't have to run to a home improvement store and buy a post and then get home and have to cut it...Good job bro!!!

@DXCommander You might sell even more if you would let people order their coax and everything through you and have everything ready to go....just a thought...
To save time for the ground pole u can use expanda-crete,its expandable foam for fence posts and only takes 1 hour to dry before ya can use it and its rated for load bearing so its good for the signature 9
Might not be a bad idea to pour a little down the pipe, too, to make it “solid”.

Good luck with it. As soon as I can get my radio repaired i will be a customer. The ability to easily take this down to tinker with tuning is a game breaker. With quick connects on guy wires stability for more permanent installations is a great feature.

My Classic has made it almost impossible to buy any other antenna because of its performance. Unfortunately I can’t leave it up due to the wife, because of the guys. You just solved my problem. I just need to enter into negotiations with the wife for a permanent location. Roly did a video on a home brew core drill and between that and this I’m thinking perhaps a parasitic array at the lake. The fibre glass mounting pole is key. Well done sir! Tim VE5THF

Yes, you will be able to buy the pole separate. Pricing will be somewhere between the Classic and the 12.4. Not worked it out yet. £79 rings a bell.
I very happy with the performance I'm getting from the ¾λ 10 & 12 elements I cut for my 12.4. Just the standard 6cm support folds and without the 80m coil in place. I can recommend.

I am so happy that you are finally announcing a self-supporting vertical. You have alluded to it several times in the past of course but now that you've tested it for a while it's no longer a concept :-) Do you have any idea about the wind survivability of the antenna with this pole with thicker walls? I was thinking it would make a great rooftop antenna with several raised radials but the winds on a tall roof can be noticeably stronger than on the ground.
Well, just like you can't get insurance on a fence post, I have to say, this is the same. You never know what might come along in terms of weather. However, many folks have put up the 12.4 on large flat roofs. As long as you can maintain it safely - and lay it down in case a major storm is predicted (you mught as well!) then, in most cases you should be fine. From experience, I have watched this in 50mph gusts and consider it good for probably another 30 mph again.

I post mounted my classic with a 1” piece of schedule 80 pipe down the center into the ground. Works great. Keep up the great work. KN4RAY

Of course, now I am starting to look into radios and antennas. I really love the concept of these. Are they really suitable for any garden provided you have the space for the radials? If so, I think I want one. ❤️

Radials.. I need to do some testing but honestly, I have a strange feeling, we could probably go down to about 1m long.. With this as a test, we can try it soon.
@@DXCommanderHQ I have so much information to try and absorb. So I'm really sorry if it seems like an ignorant question. I have watched several of your videos on the antenna but not all. I can actually probably find space for the radials. I live in the middle of an urban housing estate. Which actually has pretty good elevation that I'm almost on top of. My garden is 'average' probably something like 12 X 10m. It is surrounded by wooden fences and other bricks and mortar buildings though. I'm hopeful this could be my antenna solution. ❤️
@@PRODIGY5369 The Classic worked well for me in a similar space (as my first antenna), I imagine this will be great. I was looking to pole mount my classic and bury the radials in the near future - might consider this one as an upgrade as its less bendy.

This looks amazing. The 12.4 does look a little large in my garden so I could see a 9 in my near future. Would have to think about how to get back on 80m....
Yeah.. My fav would be a compact linear loaded halo style 80m..
I have my in-ground pole in concrete, then I have a 3 threaded rods coming out of the concrete that my home brew ground plate attached to. the ground plate also has the so238 and the coax permanently attached.
putting it up and taking it down requires the loosening of a wing-nut to disconnect the element plate.
Have to check your website every day to get one, I will then use my classic for field days, I will be running a long wire for 80 and 160
Don't worry.. I will generate a count-down timer and you can check.
I will be ordering one.
Ok, so I went out and swapped the 10m element on my classic to a 5/8w element, made a matching coil, and got it tuned. Huge improvement on dx over the 1/4w, people will be happy with that!

Maybe a crazy question, but would the Signature 9 work decently well mounted atop a 9 foot steel pole 4 inches in diameter with the radials mounted in the ground below?
Maybe.. But honestly, uness you have been watching a recent video (from a guy who should know more) you are possibly barking up the wrong tree. I digress. Anything works. It's just how well you want it to work. Be aware that tuned radials is a BIG subject. Best to read Rudy Severns papers on that one..

OK, personally I wouldn't go less than 2m long and 180 degrees. It'll work with less but that would be my preference as a minimum. Just put all the copper that we supply on the deck..

I am very excited about having a self-supported DX Commander! Are you able to speak to the power handling capability? Serious question, will it be able to handle RTTY and other digital modes at 1500 W?
If something was going to heat up on this antenna, what exactly would get hot if there is no coil?
Yes. We tested 1,500W on 20m and 10m last week for 65 seconds. Absolutely zero effect.

Apart from half-the-price, I would need to understand how th R8 actually works.. You can't "make" more RF so probably similar.

Callum, what is the bandwidth on 10m? I really want to work 10m FT8 and 10m FM repeaters.
Ah.. In which case, remove 12m element and make one element for around best at 28.3 and another element for 29.6. Problem solved :)
@@DXCommanderHQ I still have in mind to try an aluminum rod in place of the 10m element. More surface area, the lower the Q. With the new plate design, maybe run it up one of the guy ring holes. Hmmmm. 😉

I made a Classic permanent install with a ground pole, though it's not as deep as what you suggested. I also use an additional guy point about 2/3rds the way up, whatever the height is for the plate at that level. A couple of good windy stormfronts didn't take it down. The 80 meter inverted L element is the best antenna that I have on that band. I'm pretty happy with this antenna.

I guess it would fit over the pole I have the DXC sitting over. I do you 3 large camping pegs that are concreted in the ground with quick set cement for the guide ropes. (Can send you the photo and where I got them from) Mine been up for nearly 2 years as you will know.

I think I found my DX Commander i'm a disabled Ham who runs his station remotely from my in town condo, and mother nature destroys everything I put out there now is time to try a real antenna
