Nice one! I really like the painted on fuselage band. One really glaring error with this kit is the wing. They give you the wing out of their FW-190F8 kit. Totally wrong! The center of the wheel wells should not have the dimpled panels. That area should be open with the inline engine protruding into it.
I knew about the open part, but never heard about the dimple. Also, it's got incorrect ejection ports. It's a mess of a kit as far as accuracy goes. Definitely going to get the Eduard one, and do it up as a JV44 bird.
I've read on a post on Britmodeller that the best way to deal with Tamiya decals is to use hot water, since the glue is what makes them thick. I also have four Hasegawa Fw 190s, and the landing gear on all of them is rather wobbly, so it maybe a design thing on every 1:48 and above Fw 190.
I have heard and bought Gunze/Mr. Hobby Setter and Softener. Have long since forgotten where and when I had read that. Supposedly great for Academy's decals too.
I simply love the "Dora"! In my humble opinion it was the greatest fighter of WW2. I know that others will (perfectly legitimately) disagree with me, but each to their own opinion!
Great that you are willing to share your wins and your losses when it comes to kit building. I think we all learn more from seeing both and its not like we all are perfect! Turned out great in the end. Dan
@@TheWaggishAmerican No, the Eduard kit was unbuilt, so the decal sheet was not cut up. However, I DID make several copies for "just in case." After installing the seatbelts I gave them a light brushing of Tamiya Brown Wash. Looks nice.

got same problem with bands on the tail :D and I also finished the model after 1 year since I started building for the reason of this damn decal, definitelly recommend to everyone not to use the decal with these black/white stripes, make it with an airbrush, great model, looks fantastic

Tamiya's decals are too thick even with Tamiya Mark Fit Strong. The only real work around is once you have them on is to seal them with 2 coats of clear and sand down the carrier film

See people think Tamiya are great I honestly avoid them if I can especially for armour kits I normally build but with Dragin getting abit more rare nowadays sometimes you have no choice to go Tamiya! If your buddy built the 48th scale one that that's not surprising, the molds are probably from the early 70's. Tamiya is really a crapshoot, and you have to look into the kits before you buy them. They continue to produce a LOT of kits that are run off of 70's molds, and sometimes they don't even adjust price to reflect that. (Jagdpanther / Stuart / this kit) But some of their newest stuff is great. They are a pretty solid intersection of price point and quality, and Tamiya USA has the best customer service people I have ever interacted with in any sector, short of MAYBE the Iwata guys. I wouldn't call them the 'leaders' or anything, though some of their 32nd scale is close; but at the price they are usually a win. I LOVE the really nice kits, but I simply can't afford them lol. Dora is one of my favorite as well- definitely my favorite prop fighter. Go for the Eduard kit.
