The husband of Jessie was affectionately named “Porch Dick” on Talking Dead lol Daryl was never used to this type of lifestyle, so he’s not comfortable in this place, because he’s never had it before the apocalypse, he’s one of those rare people in the world that was made for the apocalypse more so than the other world.
Some BTS tidbits: Sometimes, TWD has celebrities playing walkers. In this episode, Anthrax's Scott Ian played the walker that crawled out from under the trash heap just before Carl stabbed him in the head with the pole. I will never not love Carol playing helpless and the "gonna hose you down while you sleep" and "you look ridiculous" banter between Carol and Daryl. (Btw, the "ridiculous" line was ad libbed by Norman Reedus in one of the takes and they wound up using it. No one had seen Melissa McBride in her Jr. League outfit until she walked out the door. They said the cast and crew cracked up when they saw her dressed that way and couldn't stop laughing. lol Also loved it when Deanna supported Glenn for rightfully taking down her son. (Glenn rocks!)
This episode really shows how far the group has gone from civilization by necessity. Carol has an instinct for how to play a situation to fit in while gathering information. Daryl is the opposite of Carol because he will not pretend to be something he is not. This is what makes them a great duo since they really see who they really are at their core.
The saddest death in the show Ricks bread also you can see the scar mark on his shoulder where he got stabbed by Morgan also fun fact Norman Reedus the actor who plays for daryl kept Andrew Lincoln bread hair in a bag along with Scott Wilson the guy who played for Hershel ponytail Norman reedus joked he wanted to clone them but overall fun episode it just keeps getting better and better.
I just love watching Carol do the Martha Stewart act. Rick looks so badass in his interview! You can tell he's been to hell n back. It's so hard for the group trust new people. "Who's Deanna?" 😄 This is a great episode! I love season 5!!
Your not wrong about Daryl. He is very loyal to his pack, and plus he is a great tracker. Remember what you said about Michonne's immediate reaction to the governor , her instincts, and that now this time she was okay. Carol in a cardigan is one of my best funniest memories of TWD. I just love the contrast between Beast Rick while also holding a sweet baby. Deanna had to find out more. Carol is a perfect spy LOL. Daryl and Carol are the best. Their lines are like the smothers brothers or Laurel and Hardy. so funny. Deanna's son is playing Macho worried about being replaced. Great start to the Alexandria location.
They replayed the Rick video scene at the end bc to a certain degree was warning her about them. As he said “survival at any cost”. And then afterwards says they’ll just take Alexandria from them.
Trin is bang on about Daryl, he is clearly very uncomfortable in this setting. The way Rick treated Daryl not wanting to go around and explore is wonderful, he understands him and there was no resistance from him turning him down. I really loved the short moment where Rick puts Judith in her cot. The way Daryl watches him do it and hangs over her cot evokes the image of a family dog protecting the baby. It's adorable.
I think if Ricks group didn’t have Carl and Judith then Dianna would be more against letting them in. Like you said they look like a rough group that could kick your ass easily. I love how Daryl isn’t letting his guard down and Carol needs to get that hose out pronto.loving the reactions.💖
Carol was so damn smart here! I mean from the moment she stepped in to that crazy story about Ed she was on it! I get Rick and I understand Daryl although I really want him to shower lol great reaction as always! Rob you have to carry the beard while Rick retires it lol
I got to go inside Rick's House in Alexandria on November 20th. They were having an Open House due to the property being for sale. As soon as I walked over the threshold, I was immediately overwhelmed. I let out a scream and the tears started flowing. I had to sit down and compose myself. I was so incredibly grateful for the experience...and I caught it all on video! After I got myself together, I went into the shower, then stood in front of the mirror where Rick shaved his beard, went upstairs to Carl's room, looked out the window and gazed upon our beloved Alexandria. I waved across to the neighboring home where Carol lived in her cardigan. I stood at the kitchen island and turned on the faucet. It was surreal! Also, I love your analogy about Daryl being like a dog. It reminds me of the conversation he had with Joe the Claimer, "Nothing sadder than an outdoor cat thinks he's an indoor cat."

I like how it references time, and an underrated scene in this episode is when Deanna tells Rick what time it is. Something so insignificant to the group as survival has been the only objective. This is a small line back to civilization

I can only really speak for myself, but I suspect most of us were very suspicious of this community. I was glad that the Alexandrians had fared so well, but I also pitied them that they really had no idea what was going on out there. This is a great episode. Thank you for your reaction.
I absolutely love this episode and the episodes that follow this one, Diana is one of my fav characters, and I love carol Because she plays as herself, the badass that she is and when living in Alexandria she plays the innocent one who is just like a den mother to the whole group

Daryl never would have fit-in at a place like Alexandria, even before the apocolypse, so yah, he's feeling a bit left out. (a little bit addition to what Trin mentions) The weird thing about Carol's act, is that it's not her persona anymore, but I bet it's the same act she put on in her community, living with Ed, her POS husband. She probably had to fake being stupid, and weak, alot. 15:41 Since Aaron & Eric has been following our guys for a while, before approaching them, they have more of an idea of what Rick & the group are capable of than these people. LOL! "you wanna take on Glenn!? Really?" Yep. Remember, Glenn took on Abraham. And Abe is far larger, and far tougher than these guys. The difference with Rick now, is that he has to consider everyone in our group, and their wants & needs, and not just his own choices. It's what makes him the best leader. He listens to all, truly consider it, then goes with the best plan. His decisions are hard because he's thinking the needs of the many, not just the few...and the many has now just grown bigger, if he(they) stay. I get a little of what you mean, Rob, about Daryl being like a guard dog. Only because, the best things about dogs are their loyalty (when you treat them right, of course). On a side note (if you've gotten this far reading - lol): Trin's english has gotten better & better, since the beginning of this series. Not that it was bad before (beautiful accent, imo), but I just noticed it now, in this episode. Don't lose the accent completely, tho. lol
I've been binging your reactions to the show and I'm enjoying them so much. I love how invested you guys are in the show and the characters. I find Daryl quite heartbreaking in this episode. You can tell how extremely uncomfortable he is to be there, it's all over his face and body language. A true fish out of water. But he's pushing through for the sake of the kids, like he said on tape to Deanna; "the boy and the baby need a roof". But I think there's more to it than that. Before the apocalypse he was a nobody, "a nothing". And then with the group he finally became somebody. Trusted, needed, beloved and absolutely made for this world. But if someone like Beth who actually knew him in the apocalypse could still assume he was just an ex-convict in his previous life like she did during their drinking game, what assumptions or prejudices wouldn't the people of Alexandria have of him. I think he feels like this is essentially going back to where he started, where he once again finds himself the outcast of society unable to fit in. Such a beautifully played and layered character by Norman Reedus.
i know you all have talked about this, but it's nice to see you gush over carol, remembering how you (and i) thought she was just a victim and wouldn't be much use early on... boy, oh boy were we wrong. and she just continues to become "extra" .

I have to say, just like Rob when I first watched this episode years and years back, I was obsessed too with Jessie. She's just gorgeous!! When a Netflix series called Virgin River came out on Netflix I started watching just because of her (Alexandra Breckenridge). Rick is now the same as Shane and the governor he also threatened to take power if the people at Alexandria can't make it that's exactly what the governor did when he realised that Pete couldn't protect the camp...all that matters is keeping his people alive and anyone who tries to harm or becomes a liability them has to die. Rick looking at the mirror the same way Shane did in S2 was an amazing way to show that he has become who Shane was. The viewers see the group as the good guys and other groups as the bad guys but they all the same...
Jessie is played by Alexandra Breckenridge, if you watched American Horror Story you would recognize her as Moira - sexy ghost maid from 1st season. As well as pyrokinetic witch Kaylee in 3rd season.
LOVE this episode and the different approaches the group are taking to these new people, especially the ‘interviews’! We’ve seen how Rick is SO badass in his perspective, and the complete contrast between himself and Carol and her false innocence is brilliantly done, different approaches to survival. Makes you wonder what is going through all of their heads in terms of fight or flight instincts. Can’t wait to see how you guys take to the rest of this season!

I can only really speak for myself, but I suspect most of us were very suspicious of this community. I was glad that the Alexandrians had fared so well, but I also pitied them that they really had no idea what was going on out there. This is a great episode. Thank you for your reaction.
I absolutely love this episode and the episodes that follow this one, Diana is one of my fav characters, and I love carol Because she plays as herself, the badass that she is and when living in Alexandria she plays the innocent one who is just like a den mother to the whole group
This episode and the rest of Season fives episodes are all name sakes of Dale’s quote back in Season one at the Atlanta camp about time Rick adjusted his watch in acceptance of being in Alexandria The episodes from the quote I give you the mausoleum of all hope and desire which will fit your individual needs no better than it did mine or my fathers before me I give it to you not that you may REMEMBER time but that you may FORGET it for a moment now and then and not SPEND all of your breath TRYing to CONQUER it.
Daryl never would have fit-in at a place like Alexandria, even before the apocolypse, so yah, he's feeling a bit left out. (a little bit addition to what Trin mentions)
The weird thing about Carol's act, is that it's not her persona anymore, but I bet it's the same act she put on in her community, living with Ed, her POS husband. She probably had to fake being stupid, and weak, alot.

The difference with Rick now, is that he has to consider everyone in our group, and their wants & needs, and not just his own choices. It's what makes him the best leader. He listens to all, truly consider it, then goes with the best plan. His decisions are hard because he's thinking the needs of the many, not just the few...and the many has now just grown bigger, if he(they) stay.
I get a little of what you mean, Rob, about Daryl being like a guard dog. Only because, the best things about dogs are their loyalty (when you treat them right, of course).
On a side note (if you've gotten this far reading - lol): Trin's english has gotten better & better, since the beginning of this series. Not that it was bad before (beautiful accent, imo), but I just noticed it now, in this episode. Don't lose the accent completely, tho. lol
I've been binging your reactions to the show and I'm enjoying them so much. I love how invested you guys are in the show and the characters. I find Daryl quite heartbreaking in this episode. You can tell how extremely uncomfortable he is to be there, it's all over his face and body language. A true fish out of water. But he's pushing through for the sake of the kids, like he said on tape to Deanna; "the boy and the baby need a roof". But I think there's more to it than that. Before the apocalypse he was a nobody, "a nothing". And then with the group he finally became somebody. Trusted, needed, beloved and absolutely made for this world. But if someone like Beth who actually knew him in the apocalypse could still assume he was just an ex-convict in his previous life like she did during their drinking game, what assumptions or prejudices wouldn't the people of Alexandria have of him. I think he feels like this is essentially going back to where he started, where he once again finds himself the outcast of society unable to fit in. Such a beautifully played and layered character by Norman Reedus.

I have to say, just like Rob when I first watched this episode years and years back, I was obsessed too with Jessie. She's just gorgeous!! When a Netflix series called Virgin River came out on Netflix I started watching just because of her (Alexandra Breckenridge).

Rick is now the same as Shane and the governor he also threatened to take power if the people at Alexandria can't make it that's exactly what the governor did when he realised that Pete couldn't protect the camp...all that matters is keeping his people alive and anyone who tries to harm or becomes a liability them has to die. Rick looking at the mirror the same way Shane did in S2 was an amazing way to show that he has become who Shane was. The viewers see the group as the good guys and other groups as the bad guys but they all the same...

Jessie is played by Alexandra Breckenridge, if you watched American Horror Story you would recognize her as Moira - sexy ghost maid from 1st season. As well as pyrokinetic witch Kaylee in 3rd season.

LOVE this episode and the different approaches the group are taking to these new people, especially the ‘interviews’! We’ve seen how Rick is SO badass in his perspective, and the complete contrast between himself and Carol and her false innocence is brilliantly done, different approaches to survival. Makes you wonder what is going through all of their heads in terms of fight or flight instincts. Can’t wait to see how you guys take to the rest of this season!
Little note in case nobody has mentioned it the last few episodes of season 5 are named with words from a speech dale gave in season 1 about time and his watch

So little behind the scenes thing, Andrew Lincoln had a son around season 3 or 4. He said that after he had to shave his beard for this episode, his son cried because he didn't recognise him without the beard.
