    On my second episode of Houseplants Back to Basics series, I will be talking about potting soil mix and soil amendments, as well as give an update on my hoya kerrii propagations from a month ago: • 3 WAYS TO PROPAGATE HO...
    Most potting mixes come with three main components: organic matter (peat moss, coco coir, tree bark, etc...), soil amendments (perlite, vermiculite, pumice, etc..) and nutrients (synthetic or organic). When buying potting mix, focus more on the actual contents than on the brand, so you are getting the right mix for your plants and you will also not overpay for special potting mixes.
    For spring, I prefer to make my own soil mix with coco coir, perlite and nutrients of choice. I find this to be more cost effective, especially when repotting many houseplants. Coco coir is also more sustainable than peat moss, which I am using to repot two of my hoya kerrii propagations in this video.

      Hi Christina, Unfortunately I have sold my propagations of my hoya Kerri, I only have the single leaf cutting left with me (along with the mother plant). I posted an update recently on my IG & tiktok!

    You’ll get a lot more views if this was titled as an update on your Hoya update. Looked through the comments to find this video but glad it’s there. Thank you for filming this

    Go to Harbor Freight and get a soldering iron. It is perfect for making holes in your plastic pots or cups for your cuttings. Most of my plants are outside so there has to be good drainage because of the amount of rain we get. Since I got my soldering iron I can put as many holes as I want and there is NO breakage. 🍃🌿🍃

    Did you water the one inside the ziplock?or you just leave it there until it has its own roots.

    Hello i have bought a hoya kerrii and it has sphagnum on it still, should i remove it and transfer to soil now? Or just repot them put soil and just leave in sphagnum?

  • @johannamillan4645
    @johannamillan4645 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Did you have to remove all the moss before repotting?

    can I use coco coir instead of sphagnum moss in my hoya cuttings?

    • @MyWastelessLife
      @MyWastelessLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes! I recommend it more than sphagnum moss tbh, especially if you're planning on repotting to soil afterwards

    I bought a cutting awhile ago. How long before I will see new leaves or vines growing out of it?

    • @MyWastelessLife
      @MyWastelessLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly they are slow growers I got three new leaves the entire growing season but had to chop off two coz they got damaged.

    If you use sphagnum moss, do you squeeze off the water before you planted the hoya kerii in it? TIA!

    • @MyWastelessLife
      @MyWastelessLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Coz moss hold too much moisture and it will rot

    It looks like that coir has something else in it. What are the little white bits?

    • @MyWastelessLife
      @MyWastelessLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Perlite! I added some to it coz I used it initially for seeding.

    Hi, what was the potting medium in the ziplock?

    • @MyWastelessLife
      @MyWastelessLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Regular potting soil but you can use coco coir or peat moss too.
