  • On 15 May 1997, Johnny Depp and Iggy Popp held a press conference at Canne Film Festival, promoting Depp's directorial debut, The Brave. The film received almost entirely negative reviews, but the press conference nevertheless gave Depp a chance to discuss what drew him to the story and the leading role. The 33-year-old actor spoke on topics ranging from the end of the American dream, the genocide of America's indigenous population, and what it was like directing Marlon Brando. Iggy Pop, meanwhile, shared his approach to writing music to film.

I respect people who dare to speak their truth even if it is NOT popular.💜

I find Depp's film significant ... there are different levels of reading, in addition to the strongly political aspect of the ghettoization of the Indians ... there is human, subjective reflection: "What does and how does a man think, who has sentenced himself to death for justified reasons, in the last week of his life"… Then there is an almost metaphysical, symbolic aspect: Raphael is the reflection of the Archangel who in the purifying bath purifies the world …. in this sense even his exaggerated beauty is functional to the meaning. And there is a Love Story in which human relationships coincide with the landscape, a founding theme of many cultures. The film arouses deep, archaic feelings of immense value... True Poetry either you watch the film crying in silence or you talk about it for hours...
    Deep Honor and Respect❤️

I have to disagree with that person Johnny's not putting down America. He's putting down Hollywood. And he's telling the truth they will work you to death in Hollywood. And as soon as you don't do something the way they think it should be they will blacklist you they will throw you out like trash that's what Johnny's saying Johnny loves his country. It is America people that put Johnny as a movie star and all of his talent it wasn't this country that made him a movie star it was all of us I got him there along with all of his talent. He has brought back to the movies true acting.

Johnny left America and raised his children in europe stop trying to build your own narrative bud he said what he said its very clear😂if you knew Johnny well and his early stage you'd know how much he disliked stardom and how "america" and this "movie star" image turned him into a product.

I would give my life to be able to sit down with him and talk and hopefully we would be good friends after that every one day there either in love with him or wants to marry him Not me we were meant to be friends I almost got the chance to meet him in LA California back in 88 but as I was walking up to say High to him he turned around and walked away it sucks cause I know I'll never get a second chance to meet him before I leave this earth

Love Johnny Depp but his put down & condemnation of America the land of his birth, the country that made him a movie star is boring & sounds hypocritical.

He's pointing out America's shortcomings - we would be a better, stronger country if we worked on the problems

Sure he's pointing out our greedy mindless movie producers. But why take it out by canceling rock star gigs Here only. Ignoring millions of women. We pay sacrificially for internet and pay per view. Two evil dot cities and he writes off a whole continent of half a million livable towns. Stephen King does. And he
In sults American women. Screw him I love him so much. I'm throwing away my extra ticket I flew cross country for.
