  • When you have an insight while reading your scriptures, do you write it down? Only to lose track of where it's at a year later (or less)? Truth is, most insights I wrote down in my journal are rarely looked at twice, especially once I fill up one and start fresh in a new journal. The Gospel Library App is a great tool for keeping notes and organizing thoughts. I'll show you how I organize mine by topics so I can easily find scriptures and conference quotes on any given topic. This is a handy tool to have created before your mission so you can use it when planning lessons or teaching, but it's never too late to start!

Have you ever tried to back up your notes? I have so many and worries I’ll loose them.

Great question! It's my understanding that you can synch your Gospel Library app to your LDS account, so you can access your notes on any device when you sign in to your church account, which is also a way to back up the notes! Hope this helps.

Thank you for the information and a thumbs up on it from me! I did not think I would come across a nice Mormon in my search. So an unrelated question if I may? I am a Christian but I don't believe that Joseph Smith was a modern day prophet. It's my understanding that he said that all the churches were currupt in his day and in short God wanted him to bring the truth. But Jesus said that He was going to build His Church and the gates of hell would not stop it. So what happened then to the Church? Was the truth lost? If I am to examine Joseph Smith under the scrutiny of the Word of God. Then I would have to reject him because he spoke wrongfully. This was a big no no in order to be a prophet of God? It would disqualify him for the position. I have more but it has always been an interesting thing to consider. Hope good things for you friend as you seek the truth of God's mercy and grace.

Thanks for the well wishes and support! I appreciate it :)
That is a super interesting question, and I’d love to offer my perspective to it, so thanks for asking. It’s really cool that you are on your own search for truth, adding to the strong belief you already have. One thing that is important to learn about and understand before Joseph Smith’s vision makes sense, and that is “apostasy.” The basic definition of apostasy is a turning away from God. The bible predicted that after Christ died and before He came again, there would be a “great apostasy” (as prophesied in Amos 8:11-12 and 2 Thessalonians 2:3). I believe in Jesus Christ’s statement when He said He would build His church upon the rock and the gates of Hell would not prevail against it (Matthew 16:18). One way to interpret “rock” is as “revelation.” God builds his church on earth by revealing himself to his prophets and people, by sending his spirit as a witness of the truth, which I call “revelation.” However, God told his prophets, who then prophesied about it in the Old Testament and talked about it in many other scripture verses, that the time would come when people would turn away from God, change how they taught His doctrine, kill His apostles and leaders in the church. This happened over time after Christ’s death, where the same people who killed Christ sought to destroy His church as well. Christ’s church is perfect, but the people in it are not, and so God knew a day would come when His disciples holding His priesthood authority (the power to baptize, speak for God, act directly under his power and authority, which was given by the laying on of hands by Christ to his disciples) were all killed and it was not passed on because the people were too wicked to accept it. Over thousands of years, people again started seeking truth and God spoke to them, sparking the religious revival (and all the events leading up to that), and as the people became ready to receive the truth, God gave it. Then, as was also prophesied in the bible, God brought forth a marvelous work and wonder (the Book of Mormon) and answered Joseph Smith’s prayer (giving him direction and giving him the priesthood authority through the laying on of hands by his apostles of old). There is so many amazing details that I don’t have room or time to explain here, but I find that the more I study about these events in the Bible, Book of Mormon, and church history resources, the more amazed I am by how everything fits together in fulfilling so many prophesies. Most importantly, I prayed to ask God if this information is true. I asked to know if the Book of Mormon was true, and if He himself appeared to Joseph Smith, and I have felt peace and God’s spirit. My mind has been enlightened and I have come to know the truth for myself. God’s church never fails, even when his children do. The Savior never sinned, even though we do. But God always provides a way for us to come back to Him.

/all the churches were corrupt in his day and in short God wanted him to bring the truth/
The church still holds to that, even today.
You don't believe a prophet can speak wrong? You don't believe that a prophet can't act badly? That a prophet can't screw up? Or be what we'd hope a prophet shouldn't be?
Prophets are people, only human. Not perfect people, not Jesus. Just consider Jonah. Abraham lied to Isacc. And Peter. Don't even get me started on him. Great man. Huge personal issues both with his temper and his gospel understanding.
