One of the very greatest of your shows. Rachel Willis-Sorensen is a breath of fresh air an an opera world that is direly in need of the kind of frank talk that the ladies of THE SCREAMING DIVAS and Rachel advocates. I love that Sondra hated that Paris AIDA. Well...it was hateful despite the top-notch cast. That was the most fun interview yet. Loved all of you.
So energizing hearing you three. Adore strong women with no facade, and your bleeding heart passion for this art. It takes some serious cojones to be so courageously vulnerable and it's a powerful thing to witness onstage and off. You guys are badasses. Thank you🙌
Thank you Rachel for putting into words what only someone in your position can say. I am so disgusted every time I see opera turned into trash. When it is overly sexualized, and drug through the mud of the world of drug abuse and the like, completely disgusting! Opera and it’s artists suffer and pay such a high price for this. This must STOP!! Thank you all lovely ladies for this amazing show I love it!!! 😘❤️🥂🍾
The more I watch/listen, the more I enjoy. I don’t/can’t sing, but I love Opera. And these glimpses behind the curtain stoke that love. I so appreciate the work you do to share this with us/me. You are welcome into my craft room any time. 🥰
Ms. Sondra, Ms. Keri, Ms. Rachel, an extraordinary program. Deals with vocal technique and interpretation with sincerity, humanity and humor. We, opera´s lovers, learn from you about the intense work that you develop, and the great compromise that you have for our enjoyment. Thank you so much.
Well and wisely said, Rachel; kudos to you. Divas, I don’t know how you keep topping yourselves every week, but yet somehow you do. (Sorry about the monitors, Keri 😔)
Thank you so much Divas for this wonderfully smart interview. I love what Rachel said about modern productions and I just found myself coming back to this interview after the Met Opera revealed their new production of Lucia di Lammermoor (Lucia is now seen as a drug-addicted young woman who speaks to Edgardo through Facebook and there are pharmacies on set for other types of Opioid and Heroin). I am really surprised that this production did not come with a warning because in my opinion it would be very upsetting to watch. I don’t understand why directors make these new-old operas and I think it will deter audiences instead of “lure them under the mask of the opera’s title”. So thank you again for putting this out on the Internet. I think that a lot more people in the opera industry need to hear this or opera will end up being a disgusting rated TV show. Sorry for the long comment. Love, Vivien Iannetta
I really appreciate what she said about directors who love nudity. To me: It's just dishonest. If the director would just openly admit that they're horny, that'd be honest. They don't want to see nudity for art. They just want to see boobs and feel like they were part of it.
I agree with you Sondra, each student and voice is individual. You may use some vocal exercises for all your students, but some individual and different things need to be done with other students. I also believe teaching is hands-on and difficult in my opinion to do on line, even though many do it and do it well.
Thanks for being so honest about productions. How often did I walk out of an opera thinking "Why the hell did I spend money on this?" just because a director screwed up the whole thing? And it's not even that productions can't be modern, they just have to be done by somebody who actually gives a s%*t about that opera. If there is cocaine snorting (David McVicar's Agrippina has a cocaine snorting scene and it's the BEST thing evaaaah!!!) it just shouldn't be done simply because that's a way to get attention. And I'm so sorry you had to go through that puppet-ordeal. If it's any consolation, you still sounded glorious!
Would there be a link or somewhere to take classes threw real opera life? I love the contact and it has helped me so much to grow as a opera singer trying to get in the business. Thank you Sondra and Keri! Can’t wait for the next episode!
Search for Rachel on Facebook and I think you will find all the information on her school there as well as in her Instagram account. Hope that helps! And thank you for watching our show! Big hugs from The Divas!
This was a very interesting discussion. And I got some insight into Rachel, who I’ve only seen on a few Lohengrin snippets. As for the controversial Aida, I have to confess that I liked it. Obviously, it wouldn’t be my first choice for a memorable Aida, but the singing was great, and I thought it was an intriguing concept.
Rachel lost me when she started talking about productiins. She's a just an opera singer! Watching theatre, knowing theater, being able to read the visual LANGUAGE of the theater is a skill, but she knows nothing about theatre, she's not even interested in it! She doesn't even go there or can name at least thirty of fifty leading directors! She can't. Yet she's so full of hubris to believe that she's some sort of an expert who has a valid opinion. Stick to expertise, please. And be willing to learn.
She's not "just an opera singer," she's a human being, just as all performers are, and they deserve some respect. They don't deserve to be told to get nude on stage for attention. They're not objects, and you owe your fellow people more than that. She, and all people, have a right to say they don't want to be in a sexual production, especially when the original libretto didn't call for it. They're not objects, so don't talk about your fellow people that way.
A voice of liquid gold and complete artistry. I was absolutely beyond impressed with RWS and every aspect of this interview
She is a golden age singer for sure!

This was a FABULOUS episode! The three divas that I love the most. Keri, I need the tea on your lip color. Number, name, Company...alladat!!

This was such a great episode. You divas kept it real. Thank you. You pulled back the veil and gave us the not so pretty. Loved it
