Exactly. It's not so much about her revelling in her new body, but how much her life has improved because of it, which says more about other people's standards than her supposed "flaws"

Yes!! So many people don't realize that yeah she cares about her looks, but they don't get how smart she is. She knew how the game was when it came to what they looked for in auditions, and she fit that role. It benefited her because she got what she wanted, her looks fit to what she liked and she got parts. Her story is that she was always super talented and she knew she was, but many people judged her on her looks. I love Val, she's so inspiring.
The movie version doesn't play her as dumb at all.

Holy shits, that was impressive!! And I`m not usually impressed (as in blown away. fun number but not a show stopper) with this number! Literally a flawless performance and highly refreshing take on the character. Awesome job Ms. Taryn Darr!!!!
Tayn's phrasing and inflection is excellent. The slight pauses here and there bring such a freshness to the lyrics and you feel like you are hearing them for the first time and that they are not simply being recited for the 10 millionth time. . I LOVE Jessica Goldyn who is tops but this gal itoo owned the role in the moment.
I love her look as val. I, too, have a pixie cut and I will be dying it blonde for my college’s production of a chorus line in which I’ll also be playing val! I think she looks incredible with a pixie. It suits her so well and this woman’s comedy was spot on for this role. I’ve been listening to this clip while preparing for the role!

@@Mad24680 I revel in the world of strange.... hell, we're all stuck in it.
But I've noticed that they usually go with the more buxom ladies to play that part just because of this number. Although I don't know how cast the woman in the movie. Anyway, it's probably the only reason I could sit through the play. It's not just because of my hormones but because the story goes into the real challenges those performers (like you) face. It's not good enough to be good and that's messed up... At least that's the allegory that I glean from it and that's why I find such stories as "deep" and anything by Arthur Miller or Sophocles.

🤔That's an interesting interpretation of Val... This portrayal make her seem like a character who only uses for vulgar language for episodic catharsis; she doesn't seem cynically shallow like her typical character description.
