I just returned from grand Bahamas- met and became close friends with a couple who were from abaco and were there during Dorian, their take on the hurricane is that no news source, documentary or personal videos and photographs will ever be able to convey the terror and destruction. Many many people are JUST now able to talk about it as many suffered severe trauma from this storm. Them included. They indicated that they have been in major hurricanes before, and that Dorian was off the chart in scale- that winds, flooding, and death was way more than being reported - by the time it got to its peak of destruction, no one was filming anything! And all people see is the rubble left behind, but not the brutal fight for survival for a straight 3 days. The couple we met from Abaco attempted to flee at first to high ground in their car, but was thrown in to a ditch where water later poured, they escaped through a sunroof. They waded through water up to their necks with a 2 year old child, trying to find higher ground - zero visibility even though it was in middle of the day due to wind and rain. As they waded through neck deep water, they could feel dead animals and people beneath their feet. They finally arrived at a church, which they claimed saved their lives- where they found refuge in the rafters of the church where water still reached above their chest. They remained there for 2 days until the wind and storm waters receded enough to seek safer shelter. They blame the amount of deaths taken mostly due to a lack of warnings to prepare- there are 2 major cell phone providers in the Bahamas- BTC and ironically a provider called Aliv( pronounced ALIVE) BTC failed the Bahamian people, while Aliv provided many of them with enough notice to prevent death toll being even worse than it was. The death toll is way underestimated as many many undocumented Haitians refused to report missing loved ones.

      It's our story of hell.
      We're not resilient.
      We're survivors.
