Ah… Dereck. If you only knew. The story behind the making of Just Like That deserves a book lol. One of the most requested unreleased songs from Abba yet it has never been officially released. However 3 (or 4) versions have been recorded : the Na Na Na version (with Agnetha vocalizing at the beginning of the song), the Vitalized version or the slow version (just a bit more slower than the nanana version) without ad libs and the 3rd version being the sax version. Originally the song has verses and a chorus for its 3 variations. However, the sax version Dereck heard is a rearranged version made by Benny and Bjorn. In fact, they have never been satisfied with the rendition of the song so they tried their best to transform/ adapt it so many times within the group. A few years later, they gave a newly reworked version of the song with other verses to Gemini, same for Elaine Page (this time called “When the Waves Roll Out To Sea” which remained a demo version) and even a Swedish version sang by a man based on Elaine’s version (sorry forgot his name 😅). For decades fans have been begging Bjorn and Benny to officially release the Sax version but they’ve always refused. Such a shame since the song exists and the fans really love it. 😢😢😢. But as you mentioned, Just a Notion will be released on ABBA’s new album while Just Like That remains in limbo state…

Long story but the sax from Just Like That is by Raphael Ravenscroft who played the famous Baker Street solo. He played on Never Again by Agnetha and Tomas Ledin in 1982 and asked to be included on another ABBA track. So three demo versions of JLT actually were created but the cassette was stolen from Björn’s car in 1983. The full ABBA Undeleted is really a treasure trove of incomplete song fragments and there is so much there of what could have been if ABBA hadn't decided it wasn't working or had other ideas they went with instead. Before we had the promise of Voyage, the various demos and half completed songs were all we had left. I know "Just a notion" is on the track listing for Voyage but not "Just like that". If "Just ike that" had been completed and released at the time, I suspect it would probably have been made fun of because it is also the catchphrase of a comedy magician at the time called Tommy Cooper. Concidently (or not) ABBA appeared on the Tommy Cooper TV show back in the day, so who knows if that planted the seed for the idear of the song?
Im very surprised .they never released there unfinished songs .it be nice . To see a double undeleted . Songs to be finished . And even there fun in the studio . As there all. This is part of A88A undeleted.. various songs that were completed but again Benny and Bjorn didn’t like them or feel they were incomplete or not very good or they were reused later in other songs. 🎵 Just Like That 🎵the holy grail of unreleased songs. Not sure if you will hear Hamlet but that’s one I hope will one day see the light of day as well.
Oh my gosh, I hadn't heard _Just Like That_ in so long! I just know I dug it out of some random discography collection on the net. I had forgotten it, but I really love it so much! I remember I used to have it on my second iPod, but my mother's cat broke it in half... Cat knocked over a book case speaker... iPod Nano got "decapitated". Eventually, I upgraded my original iPod Mini with a flash upgrade... I never got all my old music restored to my upgraded original iPod. This was one of my missing tunes!
Just Like That is so divine, especially the "sax" version!!! I have the full version on the bootleg LP "Take A Chance On Us" but the sound quality is poor. And I am so excited for the full version of "Just A Notion" on Voyage, I wonder if they will re-work into a ballad or something?
Who tells, that "Just Like That" is on "Voyage"? That's not true! "Just A Notion" will be on the album, but surely in a completely 'nowadays' recording.
Agreed. Just A Notion will probably be reworked, possibly with new lyrics, for all we know. Voyage's track listing has been released and Just Like That isn't on the album.
@Jeremy B. R. James Actually, we don't know if Bumblebee will be what was on the Deleted CD, Free As A Bumblebee or a whole new song. Given that FAAB was just a demo, IF it is used, it would probably be totally reworked. But we'll just have to wait and see.
Just A Notion will be released on Voyage, but a new backing track. Unfortunately, Just Like That will be unreleased forever it seems, as Benny (and only Benny) really dislikes this song. Too bad, because it's sooo much better than Just A Notion.
Hey Derek, loving your reactions, have subscribed and enjoying your ABBA journey. May I please request you listen to "Get On The Carousel" it is the 4th and final song of their 1977 tour, mini musical, The Girl with the golden Hair. The 2 girls play the one character and this culminates in this fantastic song. Carousel was NEVER recorded in the studio so the only version we have is taken from ABBA The Movie ! You will go nuts over this song, just fantastic and I'm happy to say I was at the infamous 1st, RAINY concert played in Sydney Australia, sitting in the 3rd row ! Cheers Mate, keep up the good work Derek ! Wayne

Let's wait and see.😊
We already know the names of the tracks on the new "Voyage" album, and we know that only "Just a Notion" is going to be on it, so it looks like no new version of "Just Like That" will be released any time soon.
Some of these were planned and part recorded for the never completed album which was due to follow 'the visitors'. Just Like That was still in two fairly rough versions when they split so it was never finnished.
ABBA / Just Like That: 1st Version: th-cam.com/video/cu7UoyWqiFc/w-d-xo.html The reference to Under Attack: "Don't know how to take it, don't know where to go, my resistance running low" as an instrumental part. Can't find the 2nd (na na na version) currently on TH-cam. The 3rd (sax version) is what you heard above in ABBA Undeleted.
Can’t wait for your reaction to the now release of this awesome track Just a Notion 💃🥳😍 And also that’s exactly what Benny and Bjorn said about ‘just like that’ .. that it was missing something and wouldn’t be released.
I love Just Like That! But I love the na na na version much more - it’s suited better to the words in the song, in my opinion. I hope they’ll release both versions!
Benny has made a comment very recently saying, just like that wasn't released simply because they didn't like it Unfortunately. But I eagerly await the new version of Just a notion.
The saxophone is unusual in Just Like That because the original song had a longer verse and did not included that instrument. In that version is where you'll find the "under attack" part.
The first attempt was recorded May, along with You Owe Me One and I Am The City. The saxophone was added to a sped up version in June when the track was mixed and completed. In August the final 1982 ABBA session saw the recording of Under Attack, Cassandra and The Day Before You Came. It was around that time plans for the new album were disguarded and I Am The City and Just Like That were deemed not for release. It took til 1993 before I Am The City was finally released and the boys insist Just Like That will never be released in its ABBA format.
Good info. I thoght the saxophone version removed the original verse after using the melody in "When the Waves Roll Out to Sea". But based on what you say, that version was recorded in June 1982, well before Chess musical
@Sebastian, the original saxophone version has exactly the same verses as the first version. The main differenance is the 'Under Attack' guitar riff ( Dont know how to take it dont know, where to go), is buried deeper in the mix and the sax descends into the verses.
You need to listen to the complete ABBA UNDELETED...There are several songs in there...including a country ditty(Burning My Bridges) and Hamlett parts II and III (I think) it shows 2 different treatments to the same music....its amazing stuff!!!@
I adore the saxophone in 'Just Like That', but feel the rest of the song, although it has a lot of potential, is just a bit unpolished and without direction. 'Just A Notion' also has potential, and has a touch of Status Quo in this recording which also reminds me of 'Wombling Merry Christmas'! I have heard rumours that the new recording of it will be released as a single just before the launch of the 'Voyage' album. It will be interesting to hear what the band have done with it!!
Hi, Dereck. They gonna release "Just a notion" because it's completed song. But not "Just like that" which is another great unreleased gem by ABBA. I'm pretty sure they wont release it. There are 3 versions of that song. You heard sax version (weaker one as sax doesnt quite fit main melody at all). And it was short excerpt with just chorus on that medley. There are 2 other better versions - without sax and "Just like that" (na-na-na version) which is best one, imho. They recently blocked all videos that fans made with those versions. I am sure they will re-appear again. It were complete songs with verses and chorus (not like in medley you heard). They are not of great quality but still you can form better impression of the song (as it is full demo song). Origin of those versions are quite mysterious. They sound as if they were taken from audio cassette. "Just like that" is favorite unreleased ABBA song among many ABBA fans. There can be many reasons why ABBA not gonna release it - original tapes are lost, and maybe it's impossible to clean demo version in order to release it as it is or Benny or Bjorn not liking it as much. Agnetha though said that she enjoyed working on that song during recording session. There is beautiful melancholy in that song.
Thanks for the ABBA. I don't think 'Just Like That' is on the new album but fans have wanted them to finnish it for years. They even have I think Benny said six songs on the new album they didn't think was good enough for release. I think it would be great if ABBA would do 'I Know Him So Well' and 'Story Of A Heart' too. Frida and Agnetha are Benny/Bjorn's true rightful voice. The guy's should come out and just admit that. Then just go for it.
Just a notion certainly the stronger of the two songs. Just like that is a sweet song with a very linear melodic arc but it doesn’t compare to Just a Notions rocking forward motion and melodic and complex vocal scape . Really looking forward to hearing the song in its new iteration 22nd October!
It's a shame you didn't listen to 'Hamlet Part III,' which begins 'When the Autumn leaves are falling to the ground...' because it's beautiful. I like a version of 'Just Like That' with the verses which is hard to find, but Benny and Bjorn just don't like it.
They are releasing a Just a notion but not Just like that. Saw a recent interview with Benny saying they were never happy with Just like that. Shame because I thought it was great.
They also said they'd never reform ABBA. I think that an online fan campaign might just be what eventually convinces them that a lot of people actually like the song. If they can release "King Kong Song", surely it shouldn't be a problem to release their finest unreleased song?
The album name is VOYAGE...Voyage with the French accent was a group in the late 70's that had a hit song Souvenirs that might be worth a review as something different....
"Just Like That" is considered to be the "holy grail" of all of ABBA's unreleased music. It was a track designed for what would've been their album immediately after "The Visitors." Benny has said multiple times in the past that they didn't release it because it sounded "wrong," something about the chorus and the verses not molding well together. This "saxophone" version is one of three in existence, and is probably the one closest to "perfect" for release. It's very clear they don't want to release this song. Lots of other people posting clips of ABBA's songs with no issue, but posting this one song on TH-cam gets struck down every single time. A duo supported by the boys called Gemini released a different version of "Just Like That," the one they consider as the "best" version of the song, but every ABBA fan I know (including myself) feel this is very inferior to the original, even if Bjorn and Benny think otherwise: Gemini version: th-cam.com/video/eHUHKNKbVqE/w-d-xo.html
I like all the versions of "Just Like That" but the sax version is probably my least favourite. I mean, the sax-playing is great and kind of suits the song, but there's just too much of it! Instead of giving the sax a solo in the middle and perhaps during the outro, the damn thing keeps blasting away almost nonstop! It's as if they hadn't written enough verses yet and instead allowed the sax to fill in the gaps.
@@SpaceCattttt Listen to "Baker Street"! Same Guy. It was right back then. I actually went back in time when I heard it ☺️ The Gemini version totally lacked the lightness in the tune.
ABBA knew when to leave something alone or do major tweaking! Yes, would have been nice for a polished version of 'Just Like That", though Bjorn Again did a bang up job of the song and so probably best to leave as be, especially if the boys hadn't been very keen on the song to begin with! Yes, soooo looking forward to ABBA's new album!
I did a mistale (that's why i deleted my comment). It is not " Undeleted (medley of outtakes)" that was on the "Rarities" album... But i'm sur some of, is here. Well, that "undeleted" track, is about 23 min an a half long... so ...
Abba is so awesome and unique that their underrated tracks are better than their great hits and the unreleased tracks are better than the underrated ones.
Let's face it Just A Notion can only get better if it's in Benny and Bjorn hands, They are the only people I would trust to work with because they know where really should have went. And finally we're going to actually hear what was meant to be way back when This is an exciting time for any kind of ABBA fan I'll tell you that much!
The Saxophone on "Just Like That" was played by Raphael Ravenscroft, perhaps best known for his famous saxophone riff on Gerry Rafferty's 1978 hit "Baker Street". Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_unreleased_songs_recorded_by_ABBA#1982

The full ABBA Undeleted is really a treasure trove of incomplete song fragments and there is so much there of what could have been if ABBA hadn't decided it wasn't working or had other ideas they went with instead. Apparently there are even NEW recordings like this that were discarded during the recording of Voyage. Anyway, there is actually another one from the ABBA Undeleted track that did get a release finally by Benny Andersson on his Klinga Mina Klockor album: th-cam.com/video/-w03yQxXX30/w-d-xo.html
Just A Notion, Even though it's never been completed before recently, has always been my favorite ABBA song, Just something about it encapsulates the girls voices so perfectly it's just a gem that never got it's Time to shine until now!
I totally agree! There’s something about that “ah-a-ha” that is just so beautifully ABBA, it’s just the best sound!
it was finished in 1978 that version just never got released but was planned to be in 1994
@@AdamDawson3 with Benny and Bjorn... The song is never quite finished That's why they've gone on record as a lately saying it in the whole time spent in ABBA They only released probably 10 or 12 GOOD songs
From this songs only "Just A Notion" will be on the new album. Though I think they have recorded it new and it won't be the version we hear here.
Totally new version
"Bumblebee" on the new album was a Voulez-Vous outtake.
@@gerhardvanderwesthuizen842 totally new song nothing like that one
MY FAVE FROM 4 DISC BOX SET. THEY MUST RE RECORD: JUST A NOTION, RIKKY ROCK 'N' ROLLER, AND JUST LIKE THAT. LOVE THAT AGNETHA SINGS BABY, KNOWN AS ROCK ME WITH BJØRN ON VOCALS 🤩🤩🤩🤩
Summer night city live at Wembley, it's super energic!
Im very surprised .they never released there unfinished songs .it be nice . To see a double undeleted . Songs to be finished . And even there fun in the studio . As there all. Great they got enough material to keep abba going for many years to come . No need for them to ture .because all we want is more of there music please abba . Work on them and release them the missing songs .vol 1 .2 and so on . We love abba i have done as im one that was 13 when waterloo won . They still got that many fans theres not a place in this world thats got the room to hold the fans .please keep releasing them .
Oooh + & " nina,pretty ballerina " ....so cute 😊.
"Just Like That" is in my top 10 Abba songs, but the other versions (recorded by at least 3 different singers/groups) are absolutely ghastly.
Loved gemini cover
Just Like That complete version:

Really wish they would have polished up "Just Like That" for Voyage. It's in my top 5 or 10 songs ever.
Yep I'm disappointed about that, but well... Glad about just a notion 😁
Voyage needed mre songs...
So glad you found " Just like that" Bjorn & Benny mentored a brother/sister group called "Gemini" who released this and also H & Claire from "Steps"
H and Claire did Another you Another me not Just Like That
Just Like That is so divine, especially the "sax" version!!! I have the full version on the bootleg LP "Take A Chance On Us" but the sound quality is poor. And I am so excited for the full version of "Just A Notion" on Voyage, I wonder if they will re-work into a ballad or something?
they did it proper ~!
Love that you did this! I have the 4 disc set with this set of unreleased songs. A pure gem 💯 %
You HAVE to react to Suzy-Hang-Around! It's the one song where we get to hear Benny sing lead, and it's wonderful!
They had so much creative fun!
Just wonderful!!
I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do was the only ABBA song i knew that had a sax in it.
Other ABBA songs with sax are Waterloo, Voulez Vous, Does Your Mother Know, Take A Chance On Me (Small bits), and Why Did It Have Do Be Me.
Man In The Middle, So Long, Ring Ring (74 remix)
Just A Notion will be released on Voyage, but a new backing track. Unfortunately, Just Like That will be unreleased forever it seems, as Benny (and only Benny) really dislikes this song. Too bad, because it's sooo much better than Just A Notion.
Also I got the Thank You For The Music box set for Christmas 1994 and the Undeleted medley and "You Owe Me One" were the first two tracks I played!

I like the na na na version of Just like that better than the sax version.
I love all versions, but the first one, without na na na, is SO melancholic and takes me to a place I can't describe, but my mind goes far with it.
Que hermosas canciones de ABBA!. Me encanta este canal!.
Unfortunately we will never get a release of Just Like That, The boys don’t like it. A version was recorded by the Group Gemini in the 80’s
The saxplayer on " just like that " was Raphael Ravenscroft, the one that played the classic sax on Gerry Raffertys "Baker street"
Just like that one of my favourite unreleased songs ever !!
Hey there Dereck....yep they have released Just a Notion onto their new album.💖 in its entirety😊it's a keeper huh! Just like that would have bin great....but it won't ever be released as the guys didn't like it.....but you know....I've got a notion that they may surprise us....could be a hidden gem on the new album😊...but who knows huh? Let's wait and see.😊
We already know the names of the tracks on the new "Voyage" album, and we know that only "Just a Notion" is going to be on it, so it looks like no new version of "Just Like That" will be released any time soon.
Some of these were planned and part recorded for the never completed album which was due to follow 'the visitors'. Just Like That was still in two fairly rough versions when they split so it was never finnished.
ABBA / Just Like That:
1st Version: th-cam.com/video/cu7UoyWqiFc/w-d-xo.html
The reference to Under Attack: "Don't know how to take it, don't know where to go, my resistance running low" as an instrumental part. Can't find the 2nd (na na na version) currently on TH-cam. The 3rd (sax version) is what you heard above in ABBA Undeleted.
Can’t wait for your reaction to the now release of this awesome track Just a Notion 💃🥳😍
And also that’s exactly what Benny and Bjorn said about ‘just like that’ .. that it was missing something and wouldn’t be released.
Tomorrow be prepared!!❤️
Just Like That omggg 🥵🥰
I love Just Like That! But I love the na na na version much more - it’s suited better to the words in the song, in my opinion. I hope they’ll release both versions!
Benny has made a comment very recently saying, just like that wasn't released simply because they didn't like it Unfortunately. But I eagerly await the new version of Just a notion.
They didn't like how the verse and chorus didn't match they thought in terms of the words I had thought he said.
But I remember hearing a very cleaned version with the saxophone, and without the main verse in it. Maybe I'm crazy or my memory is failing.
@@SebaZero maybe it was the version released as part of 'ABBA Undeleted' in 1994 on the 4 X CD box set, where the verses were removed?
I'm a hard core Abba fan but I agree with you Dereck, something is missing on these songs, but I trust that they will improve it for their new album
You need to listen to the complete ABBA UNDELETED...There are several songs in there...including a country ditty(Burning My Bridges) and Hamlett parts II and III (I think) it shows 2 different treatments to the same music....its amazing stuff!!!@
Этот чувак такой,прикольный!.. 👍💪🤝
I've ready that the sax player on Just Like That is the same guy as the one on Gerry Rafferty's Baker Street -
the late Raphael Ravenscroft.
I think the next single is little things at Christmas
I also heard that rumour, Just A Notion to be released next week possibly? 🤞
@@chawleyyy i don’t think so
Torsten Weiss,
You are wrong. It will be released this Friday.
"Just Like That" one of the best and unique ABBA song.
Rob i agree.Hamlet iii is so simple yet so purely beautiful.Girls vocals are a total bliss to the ears.
@@SpaceCattttt it's always a good point to recall "King Kong Song", somebody should throw this on Benny's face!
Yes
Great one
Go on with it please
And under my sun !!!
The album name is VOYAGE...Voyage with the French accent was a group in the late 70's that had a hit song Souvenirs that might be worth a review as something different....
Love looking at your xpressions 😂😂😂
The sax is played by the same guy that did the sax on Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty, Raphael Ravenscroft.
This is from the box set!
"Just Like That" is considered to be the "holy grail" of all of ABBA's unreleased music. It was a track designed for what would've been their album immediately after "The Visitors."
Benny has said multiple times in the past that they didn't release it because it sounded "wrong," something about the chorus and the verses not molding well together. This "saxophone" version is one of three in existence, and is probably the one closest to "perfect" for release.
It's very clear they don't want to release this song. Lots of other people posting clips of ABBA's songs with no issue, but posting this one song on TH-cam gets struck down every single time.
A duo supported by the boys called Gemini released a different version of "Just Like That," the one they consider as the "best" version of the song, but every ABBA fan I know (including myself) feel this is very inferior to the original, even if Bjorn and Benny think otherwise:
Gemini version: th-cam.com/video/eHUHKNKbVqE/w-d-xo.html
Really liked Just Like That. The sax is so great!
I like all the versions of "Just Like That" but the sax version is probably my least favourite. I mean, the sax-playing is great and kind of suits the song,
but there's just too much of it! Instead of giving the sax a solo in the middle and perhaps during the outro, the damn thing keeps blasting away
almost nonstop!
+ you have to listen 🎶 too the " king kong song "🎵. +" what about livingstone "...fare album 👣🛤🔀tracks .
There is another version of "Just Like That" with strophes... It is called "Nanana version". Take a look if possible! ;) Congrats for the reactions.
It's about time we had an ABBA equivalent of the Beatles 'Anthology' albums!
Do Bang-a-boomerang it's fun & amazing !
I did a mistale (that's why i deleted my comment).
It is not " Undeleted (medley of outtakes)" that was on the "Rarities" album... But i'm sur some of, is here.
Well, that "undeleted" track, is about 23 min an a half long... so ...
Abba is so awesome and unique that their underrated tracks are better than their great hits and the unreleased tracks are better than the underrated ones.
on this disc there are more jewels hidden which you are sure to like, most of the tracks would be a hit for me
It's going go be a re-recorded and reworked Just a Notion only.
Let's face it Just A Notion can only get better if it's in Benny and Bjorn hands, They are the only people I would trust to work with because they know where really should have went. And finally we're going to actually hear what was meant to be way back when This is an exciting time for any kind of ABBA fan I'll tell you that much!
@@jay_ooh no one argues that, I totally agree
ABBA with a sax?? Of course, "I do,I do,I do, I do,I do". Very early song.
The Saxophone on "Just Like That" was played by Raphael Ravenscroft, perhaps best known for his famous saxophone riff on Gerry Rafferty's 1978 hit "Baker Street". Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_unreleased_songs_recorded_by_ABBA#1982
Abba fans will have to petition Benny to release Just like that.. Such a waste of a great song
The millionth petition! I'm ready for it, hahahaha!
Hi Dereck! Something special to share for your ABBA fans like me. The song JUST LIKE THAT, recorded in 1985 by Swedish band Gemini on their Benny & Bjorn produced album. It's a self titled album. And that's the reason it could not be re recorded or released by ABBA anymore. Wikipedia explains this in an article from the ABBA boys.
And both of their albums are produced by Benny and Bjorn with many songs from the ABBA boys! On the 1985 album there's one that Frida recorded.
“Just a Notion” is on the Voyage album.
