I have tapered a sport coat many times.....but I always learn more from you....I appreciate the section of the side back....to take only from the back and keep same seam on side seam....and the Arm lining trick to close the center back seam.....thank you for this great video !! Another one to save to my library !!!

So we'll explained and demonstrated. The lining is scaring me. I have made many jackets but never sewn and installed a full lining in a jacket. I have several nice double breasted jackets that need downsizing several sizes. What is the total amount that can be removed from the circumference? Or about how many sizes smaller can a non professional safely downsize? Guess I can't wear the jackets like they are, so if I destroy one trying, I haven't really lost anything but time. There are no professionals closer than 3 hours to me. Thank you for showing us how to make these alterations.
Hi! I hear you have all the conditions to open an alteration shop in your area 😁😁😁 You can safely reduce 3" to 4 1/2" Sometimes you can go up to 6". Cheers 🙃
Hi, just a bit confused regarding the marking of the sleeve to shorten from the top. If you need to shorten the sleeve 1 1/4" do you mark the 1 1/4" down from the very top of the sleeve or mark the 1 1/4" down from the seam allowance? It looks to me like you measured on the top down 1 1/4" and then marked up 1/2" for your seam allowance. On the side the markings didn't look quite the same, just confused. Thanks!!

Hi, I am concerned about cleanliness. I want to open an alterations shop, but I am worried about catching a disease from the clothes clients want altered. Should I wash the clients clothes first to ensure they are sterile? I have heard that monkey pox has been found in western Europe plus with covid19 I am worried about getting sick.
I know what you mean. I'd say cleanliness is one of the main concerns with this occupation. But it's true, as well, that it's demonstrated that viruses don't live too long on fabric. This means you just need to do the job you take the following day. Another thing I take in count is always washing my hands and especially with suspicious clothes. Sometimes, if a garment is dirty, I ask the customer to wash it or offer them to wash it myself. Putting the clothes for 20 minutes on the dryer can help too, but I wouldn't recommend it, in case they shrink. I hope this helps! 🙂
On the upper back portion of the side seams, is it necessary to take apart the seam and take in the back portion more than the front on a men's jacket, or is it really only for women? Just asking because I really hate messing with shoulder seams 😬
Hi! Sometimes there's no need. But you have to keep in mind the final look of this side piece. Inadvertently you could get an inverted curve there if you scoop too much when taking in. I hope this answer might help. Cheers 🙂

@@thatxonexguy5438 You're totally right. It's very hard to determine and it varies with each project. I aim to make videos showing all of the differences. You can try to play around with taking in as much as you can in the front panel until it starts to lose its shape, and then you know that the extra fabric remaining has to be taken in at the back panel. Keep in mind that it helps a lot to pin first the center back to reduce as much as possible the excess material of the sides.
