Colin really did get a raw deal when he was cast as the Doctor and I am delighted he finally got the chance on audio to prove just how good he is. Great interview, great Doctor and a truly wonderful man.
Such a genuine lovely person. He is honest and hard working and kind, he helped fund my dogs operation by giving me autographed pictures for nothing so i could sell them to raise money. My idol and my hero, he saved my dogs life
Wow, Colin Baker really is the Doctor. This reminds me of when he said that his incarnation was the sort who could watch armies get obliterated without blinking but burst into tears if he accidentally crushed a butterfly. The man was so wonderfully alien that I could buy that the Sixth Doctor really didn't have the psychology of a human being and therefore had to be from another planet. Aside from Sylvester McCoy, who seemed to almost have precognitive abilities, I don't think any other actor sold the alien side of the Doctor as well as Colin did, although Matt Smith and Tom Baker came pretty close. It's a shame there were so many idiots who didn't appreciate him whilst he was in the TARDIS.
Just saw this now. What a delight seeing Colin Baker. It's a treat to revisit all the classic Doctors on Britbox and hear their newer adventures on Big Finish.
The most underrated Doctor of them all... if only they had given him another season (and for God's sake, a new attire) this man would have been up there with his namesake Tom.
He was certainly not one of my more favored Doctors in the tv series, but I really can't blame him because he just did what he could with what he was given by the BBC. He still made for an interesting Doctor (I mean, come on, it's _still_ the Doctor) and his greater potential with the character really shines in the audio dramas. Even if I could blame him, I would still forgive him because he always seems like such a lovely gentleman with a good sense of humor. _The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot_ attests to that.
He was basically sacked because his ex wife got involved with Michael Grade head of the BBC at the time who used the ratings slump as an excuse to sack him, it was actually a minor conspiracy against the poor guy.
Blue Whovian Yep, Michael Grade (the Grade-A Douchenozzle) had it in for both Doctor Who and for Colin Baker. Just the type of jackass who would criticize the quality of the show, even though he was in a position to improve things and didn't actually do anything reasonable to help.
+Steven McBrien I like Colin in general but is he such jerk towards Tom at times. In some of his panels and interviews he has not always been very nice or a gentleman towards Tom in his comments. Think they are both good actors in different ways and both seem to appreciate and enjoy the fans. Both have done well with the Doctor Who audio books and Tom doesn't say anything bad about Colin in the panels I have seen online. Michael Grade was the one who fired C. Baker.
@@colinmcphan Tom Baker's an egotist and has been ever since he basically tried to take over production when he played the Doctor. He even whined about Matt Smith being the only person who said hello to him in Day of the Doctor because it always has to be about Tom Baker rather than Doctor Who itself. By his own admission, he was just playing Tom Baker throughout his run so he's lucky that, by sheer good fortune, he turned out to be perfect for the Doctor. I don't blame Colin for being a jerk to him. Dealing with that kind of arrogance must be infuriating especially since Colin was actually playing the Doctor instead of just playing himself. Despite the way he portrayed the Doctor, he isn't nearly as egotistical as Tom is and always acted like a professional even when he disagreed with the writers. The only time he publicly lashed out, and understandably so, was when he was fired by the same arsehole who was sleeping with his ex-wife.
His tenure as the Doctor gets a lot of flack, but I honestly loved him in the role. He got hosed by the BBC and MIchael Grade. Trial of the Time Lord was badass and its implications I think will be felt sooner rather than later.
I haven’t seen much of Colin’s Doctor but what I’ve seen I’ve liked and idk why he gets flack. He seems like such a lovely wonderful guy as well, loved him in the 5ish doctors.
***** He's a real gent and always makes for a great chat. I'm glad he was able to live on in the audio dramas. I never had a problem with his television persona, it was all part of the show.
This man always has a good word to say about people, and not in a slimy forced way that some do. He knows so much about a great deal, and seems to have his finger firmly on a contemporary pulse. Good man that Colin Baker!
Even though I wasn't alive in the 80's, Colin Baker will always be my Doctor. I was so happy when I met him at a Doctor Who convention in West Kirby. I'll never forgive Michael Grade for firing Colin and pissing off the fans. When he is gone from this world, I'll dance all over his grave and piss on it too! :P
Colin and Sylvester have worked together professionally on film before. Colin, Peter, Sylvester and Jon Pertwee were all in The Airzone Solution together in 1993.
I feel like I didn’t realize how disappointing the 50th anniversary special was until seeing The Five(ish) Doctors, and Colin Baker was probably my personal favorite part. BBC, bring back Six for a crossover episode! If we can explain Five and Four’s aging, we can explain Six’s!
***** Well, he may not of been in the ST movie, but now..., this is maybe why he was blushing.... Star Trek Continues E04 "The White Iris - watch?v=6PvgJI6cvh8
Taika Waititi should cast Colin in the projected Star Wars Episode 10 - he'd be brilliant. Also Colin is an absolute delight, such a kind and charming man.
Colin Baker is criminally underrated and has been ever since 1984. He was given shitty scripts but he acted the hell out of them and when he actually had something decent to work with, he was phenomenal. I haven't even listened to his audio work but the scene where he finds out that Peri is allegedly dead shows that he could have been one of the greatest Doctors of all time if not for arseholes like Michael Grade and Eric Saward shooting him in the kneecaps (although to Saward's credit, he at least seemed to get over his resentment of Colin as the show went on). Colin has been given the short end of the stick for nearly 4 decades, yet he still conducts himself like a professional with a combination of class and good humour. Compare that to Mark Hamill bitching about Trump, attacking children online just because they committed the heinous crime of being related to him, or trying to encourage the murder of his grandchild. However, Colin massively overestimated Jar Jar Abrams and Disney as a whole. He dodged a bullet by avoiding their Star Wars train wreck and the only projects they've done that are actually worthy of his talent were Rogue One, The Clone Wars Season 7 and Rebels. Fun fact, Tom Baker got involved in the latter as the Bendu. Controversially, I think Colin also overestimated Peter Capaldi. Capaldi has talent but mostly gets by on experience which isn't the same thing. I think he's been blown out of proportion because I didn't see the Doctor until The Zygon Inversion. A few hints of him slipped through in Season 8 but now that I've seen the Valeyard, I feel that Capaldi's Season 8 portrayal was better suited to him. The Doctor only fully emerged during his anti-war speech and by that point, I'd already decided to move on due to the fact that I was only watching the show because I cared about Clara so much.
I'm looking at the picture behind him and trying to see his face in it... and it's like, I can *almost* get there. But not quite. Colin Baker just doesn't look like The Doctor anymore. :( Either that or the problem is his lack of The Coat. I can hear it in his voice though! He still acts like it. :) I would like to see what he'd look like in The Coat these days, though.
ChandlerTV100 No IMAGINE this! If you know a lot about the Sixth Doctor, I believe the events after the trial in 'The Trial of a Timelord' were never mentioned in detail, but one idea was that he went into self imposed exile, living like a hermit on another planet for a while, in fear of becoming the Valeyard before being lured back to the TARDIS. Now, what if that planet was Tatooine or whatever and the Doctor aged like Matt Smith did in his final episode, seeing as the events in the Sixth's timeline are misplaced, it's very well possible. So I say, bring back his coat and let's see the Sixth one last time, but this time given the ultimate treatment, a cameo in the 7th Star Wars Episode!!
+waterfieldV I so agree. There is an interview with Colin's namesake Tom, from the 70's, where this obnoxious interviewer asks Tom about Star Wars and Doctor Who and basically puts down Doctor Who in terms of the quality compared to Star Wars. Tom defends Doctor Who and sticks up for the show and the quality of the show and character of the Doctor. You could tell Tom was super annoyed at the interviewer but remained a gentleman.

After his awful treatment by the BBC the way Colin still embraces Dr Who is a credit to him and the fans.

Met him :) he's lovely
So, basically Baker has a similar voice to how I would imagine my cat would've have spoke if he had a voice.
Best actor ive ever met! Lovely person!
Colin Baker wasn't my favorite Doctor, but he was a fun Doctor to watch.
I've met him once, wish I could meet him again
I got my photo taken with him back around 1990, he was great to pose with.
I love how confused he looks when she gives a list of actors name lol
Hehe, well, they are actors about to have their big breakthrough in Star Wars 7!
That's true :D
:-D
Love Colin Baker
He is fab, isn't he?! :-)

Doctor Who Nerd I love all of the Doctors! All very awesome!
Such a nice guy, great interview

My favorite Doctor by far. Thanks to BF.

Damn I love the Sixth Doctor
One of my favorite doctors.
He blushes well, especially when the Nexus name is mentioned. Could just be a nervous reaction though.
ooh, interesting!

Doctor Who and Star Wars should never be uttered in the same sentence.

Does he have Parkinson disease? I notice his shakes...
He aged.
