      Pendle is a decent one really Andy, especially when the weather further north isn't up to scratch and the well is a real bonus. I've been eager to get further up to more northern fells but the weather just isn't working out when I'm free. Thanks for watching and the encouraging comments as always. Cheers, Chris.

    Very good video chris, thats my local hill. Nice area and good views and a great spot for a wild camp. I have had many a brews from that well supplying my water.

    The chained metal cup inside the well when you lifted the cover was a surprise. I saw one like that on a walk years ago in the Vercors, not under a hatch but chained to the rock face, with water gushing from a pipe. I'm sure there must be others, but that is only the second one I've seen. I love the view over Barley, and seeing the field pattern radiating outwards towards Pendle Hill, rather like the spokes of a wheel. Another enjoyable film.

    • @ChrisJB
      @ChrisJB  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Michael. I've done Pendle many times down the years but only recently heard of Fox's Well. I was up there a few weeks ago with the family and after a cursory look was unable to find it. However, having more time this time I was able to. Should you wish to find it on your next visit, let me know and I'll give you directions. It's quite easy to find really. Best wishes, Chris

    History, camping and great photography, excellent video as always. I liked the Steve Austin reference but younger viewers will think you mean a wrestler not the 6 million dollar man. I have a kind of similar story about seeing my
    Grandad after a long hike, thought he would be impressed but he just asked why I didn't get the bus!

    More magical scenes. I remember seeing the eye of god with you on our way down. I liked the crinoids but i loved the well. How fantastic! Is there a better drinking spot in the Pennines? Yes we were somewhat naive with our camp. Funny. It was still an improvement on when I had gone to bluebell woods at Ogden with Tommo and a bin bag. I wonder why we were so skint? It was only the conkers that kept us going i think.

      I worked out the milage the best I could remember of our route home the other day, it was just over 28miles. I'd be lucky to do half that these days. Fox's Well was just brilliant. Perfect for wild campers.

Think I’ll do the same route as you as I want to see the George Fox plaques. Enjoyed your “long walk home” tale too, did something similar in my own distant past. Yours has become my favourite walking/wild camping channel. All the best from Haworth. 👍🏼

      Hello Lee. I was mad on the Six Million Dollar Man as a little lad 😎. I enjoyed the route from Downham. It's a bit longer than from the Barley side but there is more variety. Thanks for the generous comment too. There are a lot of high quality YT wild camping and walking channels out there and I don't find it easy trying to carve my own little niche but I'll keep plugging away. Aye up Chris….hope ur OK. So just catching up on your posts again and thank you for all the info you’ve provided.
    That well is unbelievable.
    My dad was from Littlington in Sussex and he took me back when I was a nipper to where he was raised and spent his childhood. He talked about a similar spring on the South Downs near Cuckmere Haven that had fresh spring water. I think I was about 11 in 1971 and we went down on buz from Donny via Victoria to stay with family. Mi dad took us on a walk through Cuckmere Haven and bloody ‘ell he dropped on the spring. No filters in those days and it was a hot July day and I’ve never tasted water so fresh in my life.
    On the Quaker issue we’ve got Ackworth School close to us and also the old Quaker v Wesleyan issues being so close to Epworth.
    On those fossils….I’ve seen them before but always thought it was a licen….just shows you what I don’t know.
    Keep posting Chris….oh and greetings from Thailand Im diving and nudibranch recording for the next 2 weeks.

      Hello Ron. Aye, Fox's Well is a really cool feature......not that easy to find but I did a lot of homework beforehand. I'd imagine the springs on the South Downs to be brilliant, with the water filtering through chalk 👌.
      I like that area of north Lincolnshire you describe and have visited some of the nature reserves nearby, eg Far Ings, Alkborough, etc.

It was a great place to grow up but it is sadly slowly being consumed by Rochdale now and all the old characters are just in people's memories these days. You so have to put the 6 million dollar man music on your running bit next time. I still do the dt dt dt do do arm lifting noise when I pick up something heavy. Anybody below 55 looks blank! Very entertaining Chris. Cheers old chap. Ps , don't know about you but when I see the inside of someones Scarp 1 I always get a shock like 'what are they doing in my tent?'. Pps except the outside of my tent looks nothing like yours because you still not have changed those red side guys for matching ones!

      Whenever I pitch the Scarp, I now always think of your discomfort when you see those red guy lines Dave 😄! The poor kids of today not having the Six Million Dollar Man in their lives....I feel sorry for them. I still watch the opening credits on You Tube now and again for old time's sake. Hope you are well mate and thanks for watching and commenting. Chris

    Chris...you should have more subscribers. Great channel. Just rewatched some of your videos. It's the scarp 1 and the Peaks that draw me to your site. Thanks for your earlier information on your hard shell.
    1. What is the green hooded puffy you wear?
    2. I see you like to use gaiters - which ones work for you?
    3. Do you have a general kit list?
    Kind regards
    Imran

    • @ChrisJB
      @ChrisJB  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Many thanks Imran for your continued support. I'll answer your questions in order:
      1. The puffy is a Rab Microlight with hood.
      2. The gaiters are RAB Hispar ones.
      3. I use two tents, the Tarptent Scarp 1 and the Tarptent Notch. My rucksack is an Atom Packs Mo 50L. Sleeping bags are the Criterion Ultralight 350 (summer) and the Mountain Equipment Helium 800 (winter). The sleeping mat is a Sea to Summit Etherlite XT Insulated (regular)....in winter I put a foam mat underneath it.
      Hope this helps. Best wishes, Chris

      Many thanks. I'm sure others will ask as your channel undoubtedly grows so having a preprinted list or a link to a gear video might save you time :)
      Is your rab micro light a down jacket and not synthetic? Does humidity not affect the rab microlight?
      Cheers.

      @@trytheoutdoors Yes, you are right, I should have a gear list really. If I make it to 1000 subs I might see if there is sufficient interest in my gear and sort something out properly. The RAB is down though if I replace it I think I would go with synthetic. I like the look of the Patagonia Micro Puff hoody. 👍

    We did Pendle Hill a while ago but from the Barley side trail path. It certainly looked misty up on top but recognised the trig point. You mention switching to gopro due to weather changes, do you use other cameras whilst filming? I'm curious to know which ones. Have to say I have never seen a water well like that before. Thank goodness you weren't out wild camping during Storm Eunice !!🥾🧑🏻‍🦯

    • @ChrisJB
      @ChrisJB  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Shanita. My main camera, if the weather is fine, is the Sony ZV-1. I find it very good for close ups of wild-flowers and things. Though the downside is, it was quite expensive and not as robust or as weatherproof as the GoPro.
      We did a family walk up Pendle a few weeks ago too and I had a cursory look for Fox's Well but couldn't find it but did so this time as I had more time. If you go again and want directions for it, let me know. It's quite easy to locate. Best wishes, Chris

      @CountrysideWalking 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ChrisJB Thanks for that Chris. The only disadvantage of my GoPro is no zoom function on videos, so movie cameras compensate for this. I will certainly check out where Fox's Well if we return again to Pendle Hill. Cheers. All the best.

    Hiya, I'm trying to get into wild camping as a
    teenager. If you need permission to camp there
    who do you have to contact?

    • @ChrisJB
      @ChrisJB  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Whilst wild-camping is not technically allowed in England, providing you pitch late, leave early and absolutely leave no trace, as long as you are well away from habitation it is generally tolerated and permission is not needed. Pendle is a great one for your first wild-camp. 👍
