Here we go rewatching almost 900 hrs of pure gold storytelling. For any newcomers, get ready for the funny, the scary, epic and most of all. The Unexpected.
Caught up to all "World of Io" campaigns and "The ties that bind" campaign, saw some recommendations for this and thought to give it a chance. However, as soon as Borky started screaming I noped out especially because the audio was so unbalanced so if I lowered the volume I couldn't hear the others at all. Can't stand loud players and/or characters. Does it get better during the campaign, or should I give up after 6 minutes?
BTW I don't watch the super famous campaigns (critical role, high rollers etc.) for the same reason. Looking only for relatively small and chill campaigns with a good DM and players without main character syndrome.

Oh boy here I go re-watching a 200 episode long campaign again.
Honestly same, only difference is I stopped as I was too scared to continue because I didn’t want to lose this campaign because I know the second one isn’t gonna have The beautiful orchid barbarian boy we all love

Honestly I still love the story of this campaign so even on another rewatch, this is like my fourth now I think, it's still so good that I can't help but get invested.
Zito jokes, but you can seriously do that. Polymorph a player into an expensive animal. Sell them. They either run/sneak away (probably do it to the rogue). Finches and repeat.
That is genius.
Rewatching the series, and I finally just realized what the effect of the Cabbage was: It's an Immovable Rod, but in vegetable form.
Imagine being able grow more.
The Cabbage Merchant woulda loved that
Panic Hellscream... literally retconned in the first 7 minutes of the campaign lol
Hellscream feels like it really would have tied into a later arc.
When last we left our heros... wait, that doesn't seem right. Well, how about we retrace our adventure from the beginning.

Oh man it feels so weird coming back to episode 1 after all these years and seeing the blank background, it feels so empty without the doodles! Lol 😆
even those all the episodes are on this channel now, Can we please give a shout out to Takahata 101 for let the team use the channel for the game. Almost five years of that man.
Sure but I'm going to say for the audience more than these guys. A place to archive streams is, if course, an immeasurable contribution.
But when this all started it was part of his content (as much as everyone else's). It's like handing someone a congratulations on something they should be doing anyway.

I don't know if I'll go through the series from the start, try to pick up where I left off (somewhere around the orc camps) or just skip... But I'm glad the show exists. Was a good run. Got me through a lot of strife in my life and helped me make a lot of car rides I needed the company on. So... Appreciated the archive.

Just started out with this campaign today
First time watching.
I am new to this series as I came in on a raid to a certain Circus themed one shot. So I'm going to surmise these characters based on my first impressions of them:
Borky: Young Dumb & Full Of AGGGGHHH
Task: Taskmaster Angry Charmander
Greckles: Group Dad Edgelord
Panic: Heavy Metal Inigo Montoya
I love the group dynamics and the DM is great too!

It is absolutely remarkable to me how important this collection of goof's became to me. Now if you'll excuse me I'll be speeding through to get to Remy's episodes.
I wanna see a video of how each member of the Unexpectibles grew over the show, but Borky’s doesn’t change aside from his hair growing longer and ending like he came out of the Culinarian’s Guild in XIV.

@@RagingShrimp67I listened to the recap of the first two arcs on their podcast edition, if you wanna skip them learning how to play their characters. They really shape up over time. I love these guys and Monty.
@@aidanbrandt218 The DM sounds great, and the other guys seem ok, but I just can't stand loud character and/or players as I listen to these mostly as I am falling asleep. I continued to episode 12, then gave up because the screaming only got worse.
Not the campaign for me.

I get why people would be annoyed by the melodrama but I really like when parties start out like this.
It makes it feel more meaningful when they become close.
Yeah I prefer that too. Gives everyone a chance to build a dynamic instead of just presuming one is there from day 1.
It's annoying because it makes no sense. A party that is already together, but starts with melodrama, is nonsensical. If they don't like each other, why are they together?
Also, what in the hell is wrong with the group starting with a pre-established dynamic?
@@mattpace1026 Well they started working together mostly just because they were randomly hired together, and then essentially became co-workers and eventually friends. A pre-established dynamic is fine, but it can be super satisfying to see strangers become friends over the course of a story. to me thats the main appeal of Task early on. The fact that he starts out as an asshole is what makes his later growth so satisfying
@@willowtree9977 I agree with the "strangers becoming friends" thing. The problem is that, for that to work, the audience needs to see the first meeting and the build-up that follows it, otherwise it just feels hollow. Ever heard of "show, don't tell?"

Oh I'm so hyped for this I started watching a year ago and got like 40 episodes in but ended falling off for some reason I can't wait to finally watch all of this and I'm so hyped for when the second campaign starts and I can catch up with that and watch as this amazing campaign unfolds, this is one of the things that got me into dnd and has inspired my very own campaign I love this.

Just re-watching the first campaign. Thanks for inspiring me to get back into D&D. It was good to watch it when it first came out
Ten minutes in, still don’t know who is who
Just started from the start. It seems the mike volumes were vastly different at the time with the orc guy louder than what is needed, with about half being faint enough that I had to increase the volume to hear. Result is my ears being rung thoroughly whenever the orc roars.
My interest in this started after watching Gaijin Goomba talk about his ninja character. Rather cool sounding and a well designed look in the art.
Just caught up on campaign 2 (as of Episode 31), as the first year anniversary creeps up, might as well start from the very beginning!
It's been so long since I was catching up that I have to start again. Not that I'm complaining.

I fucking forgot Panic's original last name was fucking "Hellscream"!
Not exactly, it was a mistake on Monty's part.
I think he is taking it as an implication that the name was used before Wormtongue was established.
Still if you've ever watched Matt Colville's The Chain of Acheron series you'd see it as a case of Boots was always a bard.
Hellscream could easily just be something that was talked about and later discarded regardless.

I'm confused, has this episode been mislabeled? How do I find the events that took place before this episode?
This is indeed the first episode, Darklyo! The sessions prior to this weren't recorded properly, so this is effectively where the adventure begins.
You can find a quick synopsis of the preceding events by Googling "Unexpectables episode zero", which is available on most of the podcast editions of the Unexpectables.
This is the first episode. Everything they reference before this is prestream/session 0. From what I understand, they killed a bunch of wolves (1 of which had 2 heads) for Abbacus' uncle.
A fun start to a great journey!

18 on a Wisdom Save fails to break Polymorph?! Abacus Fleetfinger was Level 17-20?
If you only account for base character levels yes. Magic items could possibly have brought the Intelligence stat beyond the 20 soft cap too.
There really isn't any reason for Monty to have not built her as a very high level wizard though.
Plenty of players might try to throw down with an NPC and it kind of guarantees they don't kill her.
Though that rough and tumble attitude may result in a TPK.

The first couple episodes are rough because of the audio issues, but once it's all settled you're in for a journey! Campaign 1 was special

I mean, it was a bit rude, but it was an innocent, an honest mistake on his part. Pure obliviousness. I still think despite that, that it’s honkers this lady turned him into a turtle even if he was being disruptive and is for hire. If my whole body was shaped like that for a whole hour It’d be like my version of a body horror flick. I’d be pissed off too.
