Those Algerians are awesome, rachid taha is one hell of a talented musican. love all his REAL songs, not only this cover , but his original music is 100% the shit!
Rachid Taha was one of a kind. That's for sure. I don't know if anyone like him we'll ever surface them. That being said, I listened to "Made in Medina" over the loudspeaker at Denver's East Colfax Ali Baba Grill. So, we're working to keep his Legacy alive here!
he is so so flamboyant & his raspy voice just adds flair to his songs, look at him even in the 123 soleils concert with the free attitude. Khaled et Faudel, the orchestra & him were vibing off each other throughout ! Hits like a punch in the heart to think we will never see him live but he left some bangerz to get us musique lovers going ! Keeping his Legacy alive in Dhaka, Bangladesh playing his tunez in our jam nights! ❤️
This has got to be one of his best tunes, excellent!! Btw, on Rachid's London gig suddenly The Clash's Mick Jones appeared with him on stage and jammed and sang along, how fuckin cool's that???
There is a story behind this song that unfortunately turned me off from the Clash. I read that Rachid met Joe Strummer and the band early on in their career when the Clash weren’t that famous yet, but were gaining traction. Rachid gave them a cassette of a song they produced, because Clash members gave them the Impression they wanted to help them. Rachid never heard back from them. A year later, The Clash released Rock the Casbah, which was almost identical to the Rachid’s song. I need to find this story again, and hear the original. I recall when I did hear it, it was very similar.
What a legend playing a great great song deserved to be better known in the U.K.. RIP Rachid ...gone but not forgotten
