    Got to say, your editing skills are absolutely amazing dude! Really impressive work Sir!
    But I think the hatred for game journo stems from either ignorance of the subject matter, or them wanting to insert their political opinions into their review, often leading to a huge bias against the subject matter.

    • @Servesta
      @Servesta  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you very much!
      And yeah I agree that most of the hatred stems from dumb reasons.
      I was shitting on the outlets pretty hard in the video but apart from the occasional clickbait article and bad review they're mostly alright (Atleast a lot better than how they used to be).
      But anyways, "Hello you!"

    Great video! Gaming journalism is a joke because they don't focus on the technical aspects of the game or the actual quality. It's all about spreading a message. It's not about giving gamers an actual picture if the game is worth it or not. And let's not talk about the cases of plagiarism in reviews.
    I was done with gaming journalism after an article on Kotaku about a semen bar in The Sims.
    Gaming reviews used to be made by people that loved games, now they're mostly made by people that hate games and hate gamers even more.

    • @Servesta
      @Servesta  ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Most outlets nowadays are somewhat ok but man, Kotaku is something else. I could not believe some of the insane articles when researching for this video. The best one for me has to be the one where the editor made an entire article bragging about how he managed to get laid in a Sonic the Hedgehog themed bed.

    I always remember the Cuphead video of the game journalist that couldn't even get past the tutorial of the game.
    Sadly they often give games to the wrong person to play who might have a natural biased against or towards a certain genre, which might make then score higher or lower than it should do. Also they might not wait for patches to come out that fixes a game and base the score in the game given, or when certain features are not activated until after reviews are out to increase a score.
    Still can't get how games like CoD, Assassins Creed and Fifa get high scores every time despite being the same game each time with a new lick of paint, and not being called out for it. And yet when another game does it, gets roasted for it by the same reviews.

    • @Servesta
      @Servesta  ปีที่แล้ว

      Getting paid to make videogame reviews is not always as rosy as people think. These people have to abide by very strict deadlines and most of the time are forced to play games they have zero interest in. So therefore it's not really that surprising that some of these reviews are the way they are.
      But to be honest most of the reviews nowadays are somewhat fair. Ign and gamespot have also stopped giving outlandish scores to titles like cod over the last few years. And it was really hilarious when IGN was so disappointed by fifa 21 that they just didn't bother to make a new review and just published their review of fifa 20 again.

    I really hate where Game Journalism went in the last couple of years.

    I briefly worked for GameSpace, and they would just throw out game keys in their Discord with no oversight on who reviewed it. The guy who wrote their Yakuza Kiwami 2 review played it for 20 minutes and couldn't name any of the characters. The owners would also break NDAs to stir up reddit drama to try and funnel views to their site. There was no editing of their reviews either, you could write pretty much anything you wanted.

    I feel its fairly prominent that most game journalists now that work for the companies like IGN, Kotaku, etc. all are not capable of playing games, most of them struggle moving and looking around at the same time in a game, or they are new to games. Independent reviewers for games put much more effort in the explanation and analysis of games by a looooooonng shot. Not only that they can actually play, understand the mechanics, and finish a game compared to most of the journalists for IGN and such. Also when playing a game they know they likely wont enjoy and review it, for the most part they can put aside their biases and judge it as fairly as they can compared to said companies. Like Dunkey for example, he has said he hates slow paced game like turn based and such, and doesn't like anime style games, but (for the most part) he can put himself in the position of someone that does like those games and will mostly preface it with stating he personally doesn't like that type of game but can understand that other people might and explains why some people might not like it while others would. Many many many other independant reviewers like him do a much better job at game journalism than "professional" game review companies and reviewers. I disregard any and all reviews that come from journalists that work for all those companies.

    Reviewers are never getting paid for good reviews, it's their outlet or a parent company, via all the other arrangements that are done behind the scenes.
    The only visible ones, are advertisement deals, but those advertisement deals are not for this particular game release they span year long campaign for anything from that publisher, and not even on a single site, just take a look at Future Publishing and their site portfolio.
    This business is going on for a while... they won't even tell reviewer hey this needs a good score, they will carefully analyze people who they have reviewing games, keep employed those who know how to stand in line, and give them titles to review they'll like where it matters, so the score naturally will be good.
    Most of those reviewers are like a horse following a carrot, they have no idea how are they manipulated.
    They stay employed not because they're excellent writers with immense gaming knowledge
    but because they endure low pay, know their place, and aren't threat to the business.

    These companies don't seem to have any concrete reviewing guidelines and it's been apparent for well over 10 years. You will have 2 different reviewers working for the same company in which one reviewer will give Game X a pro for being similar enough to it's predecessor to feel familiar, yet another reviewer who will give Game Y a CON for the same reason. If there's no consistency across the board then you lose credibility. Too many times do you play a game that's been panned among the game journos and yet when you try the game, it's either not bad or straight up great.
    Also, fantastic editing. You deserve way more views and subs.

    If you are planning to become a game journalist, do not work for IGN, Gamespot, Polygon or Kotaku at all.
    And almost every review I watched previously, it feels like they haven't played the games up to 100% completion. Of course it takes time and lots of pain to discover a secret or two, but you don't have to play the game for literally just 2 minutes and then talk trash on how terrible the game is.
    If I was a videogame journalist and let's say, I am gonna make a review about Cuphead, here's what I would do:
    1. Finish the tutorial for real (unlike that one guy who sucks ass at even completing the tutorial)
    2. Playing on PC (I am a pure PC user. I never played with controllers in my life until now)
    3. Try to beat every boss, even if it sacrifice your energy, A LOT.
    4. After beating the game, pay attention to every detail of the game, such as the characters, animations, deisgn, the world etc.
    5. If you have the urge to complain about the most frustrating parts in Cuphead during the public review, keep it to yourself and take your complaints somewhere else.
    6. Nobody cares if you died a lot. Because we all died very often during the boss fights, no joke.
    7. You can say that the game is hard, but you're not suppose to rub someone else's face just because it's hard like Dark Souls.
    Bonus: Every great game has it's ups and downs. If you're just a random guy who wants to make a quick bucks and write a bad review, then you're not the right person for this job.
    I myself am not a Game journalist. But, I am, like everyone else, a gamer.
    Gamers are more superior than Videogame journalists.
    (BTW, this is what IGN suppose to give Cuphead. TOO MANY BOSSES)
    Edit: Game Journalists should not exist on the 1st place, because they are literally the experts on saying lots of bullshit to the public's eyes.
    And I am not so surprised that every game journalist is bad at the games in general. I bet 1 million dollars that my future 10 years old son can beat every boss in Cuphead and other garbage games with ease.

    I'd also add that the "digital sweatshop" like nature of being a journalist has an effect. Once upon a time you'd have a decent amount of time to review a game but depending on the publisher you might only have like 2 days to review a 40+ hour game. So it would understandable that some might not bother to finish a game or dive any deeper beyond the critical path to the ending.
