      Blade Ztel5 yes but you must have a "foundation" first (place to live, food, job, internet, etc.)

    I agree with your main points except "ask for what you're worth" - the problem is, often junior devs do not know what they're worth and overshoot. From a company's perspective, the junior dev probably won't contribute anything at all for the first 3-6 months while training and will be net loss. This, compounded with the churn you alluded to, makes hiring junior devs a risky proposition. If the dev hops to another job in a year, that essentially amounts to the company paying to train someone for another job. I've been on the wrong end of this. It sucks.

    • @ProgramWithErik
      @ProgramWithErik  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That is a good point. I just don't want a junior dev, right out of college getting low balled. Not everyone is in an area where development jobs are plentiful. It's also really stressful to change jobs, sometimes you just want to stay at one company. If you go in too low, it will take years to ever recover salary wise. But it's risky on the employers side too... I understand that.

    • @Turbo360
      @Turbo360 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fair enough. I am speaking from the perspective of NYC which is where I live. It's probably similar in the Bay Area too (or worse) because I hear job-hopping over there is pretty much the norm.

    Thanks for sharing such awesome tips, one important tip I would like to suggest to new CS students is to regularly follow official blogs of world’s top software development firms like DCS, GoodCore Software and others because such official blogs of software development firms hold the latest updates from development world, and they sure did helped me a lot to understand software development processes, I hope my tips helps.
